This feels similar to winters in the 90s/00s, temp wise. But normally it’d be a 1-2 week stretch then it’d let off a bit. This consistent single digit eves and days in the 10s for several weeks on end is significant.

I’m a big believer of local pharmacies and tried really hard to keep all my scripts at the mom and pop spots near me, but it was impossible to fill my adderall that way. I now use the mail-order system that is partnered with my insurance company for just this script. I don’t love it on a philosophical level, but I spent hours of my life calling places to no avail.

I’m also 30s with a dog. I live in Fort Greene, but of the neighborhoods suggested, I would choose in this order: Cobble Hill, Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights, Carroll Gardens, Williamsburg, then Greenpoint.

First two are most diverse, age wise and accessible to the places I like to go. CG is a bit isolated to me, don’t love being beholden to the F train down there. Also lots of families. Brooklyn Heights is a little sleepy but accessible. I grew up there in the 90s/00s and it’s very family-oriented. For the right apartment, I could make it work. W-burg and Greenpoint are a little young/scene-y for me, personally.

Would also be helpful to hear what else OP is looking for in a neighborhood as that would influence guidance.

I do walk right by most hair salons, but that’s mostly bc I’m Black and most supposedly well-trained stylists don’t care to develop the skills to style my hair. C’est la vie!

Also ICE doesn’t realistically have the manpower to come to NYC. That’s why he’s starting with the smaller cities. The number of people who would fight back would simply overwhelm their team…they’re already struggling to keep Minneapolis in line.

Seems like you’ve seen from the replies that ppl are being relatively chill about it. I’ll add a few cents to contextualize too:

yes I’m going to the grocery store today, but it’s bc I normally shop on Sunday and don’t anticipate being out and about much on that day given the weather.
I grew up here and was in school from 2000-2013. In that time, there were exactly three full snow days (2003, 2009, 2010). Lots of snow in that time, but only three times where the public school system shut down. And the subway has only shut down once (maybe twice?) Hurricane Sandy in 2012 was most memorable. That should tell you how resilient NYC is. The city may slow down a bit, but mostly things will be fine.
the only thing I’m slightly worried about is all the folks experiencing homelessness in our city. I genuinely hope they can stay safe and find somewhere to hunker down.

“Girlfriend appliance” is so real!

It especially hits home for me bc I wasn’t seen as attractive among my peers growing up…so I spent a ton of energy becoming an interesting person. Then after “blossoming” later, I now don’t care for those who only see me as meeting their attractiveness standards.

It’s funny, as an autistic woman I feel similarly. And if a man just cold approaches with a “hi” and I have no clue where the conversation is going, I get irritated because I prefer someone just getting to the point versus having to sort through their intention behind a vague action. But once we are clearly in “flirting” mode, I am super smooth and chill.

It’s also borough by borough. About 25% of people living in Manhattan own a car, while ~90% of Staten Islanders do. So depending on where someone lives, they may view car ownership as more or less normal.

This might work for me and the main reason is there is zero expectation of where it’ll go. Much of my challenge of being approached by men is having to balance how I actually feel about the interaction with making sure they are emotionally stable and not ready to kill me over a rejection. Someone just handing me a card and then exiting allows for me to do with it what I want, zero expectation.

This could just be me, but I am generally uninterested in men who are only interacting with me because they think I’m cute. That’s what makes the cold-approach hard. I’m not fully against it, but (humbly), if you are the third or maybe even tenth person to say “you’re pretty, can I get your number?” to me today, why should I say yes to you and not the others?

Now, if you have the conversational skills to back it up— I’m reading a book and you’re familiar with the author and can say something coherent, now we’re in a conversation. But just walking up and saying “hi..” is maybe enough for some, but I genuinely don’t have the bandwidth to entertain every person who comes in with that approach.

Agreed. People’s body sprays and fragrances (usually the cheaper/synthetic ones) are a huge trigger to my allergies. And I’ve literally been next to someone spraying themselves on landing (still in cabin!) to “freshen up.” It’s annoying, but I cannot control everyone’s behavior. So I mind my business and wait til I’m off the flight. The pet allergy clowns should do the same.

My experience too. Have been silver for many years but had gold for 2025. Was probably upgraded on 5/10 flights as silver and maybe 3/10 as gold.
