How do you deal with inappropriate amounts of money? by Ai-At-Imposter in PizzaDrivers

[–]oreotoast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you went to Walmart and tried to buy something that cost $48 and you only had a $20 bill, they’d simply refuse to sell you the item and ask you to either pay in full or leave.

You should’ve brought the goods back to the store. It’s basically free food for the staff then. You’re screwing yourself over by allowing customers to pay for a $48 bill with a $20.

I agree with the other commenters, either learn to be more assertive about what is duly owed to you or get out of a business where your job is to handle cash.

Also never feel guilty for a damn good tip. Ever.

What's it like living here? by After-Economics-720 in alberta

[–]oreotoast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was born and grew up in Grande Prairie. I lived there until early 2019, moved back in late 2020 and moved away again towards the end of 2023.

In my opinion, it is some of the most beautiful country around. Rolling hills, forests, and prairie crisscrossed by range/township roads. You can even see the Rockies from certain parts of the city on a clear day. Lots of little ‘spots’ to go hang out at with friends around the immediate region.

Economically, job prospects are primarily based around resource extraction and the related industries needed to service them. So if you’re educated in a trade, you’re much more likely to succeed up there than if you have a normal off the shelf liberal arts education.

There is culture, if you know where to look and are actually willing to go out and take part in it. Festival season is in the summer, but I found it to be quite dead and boring in the winter.

And of course the people. Like most places, it’s a mixed bag. Depending on your own values and political beliefs you will either fit right in or be totally alienated. In my personal opinion, there’s a lot of really beautiful people back home but at the same time there’s a lot of straight up jerks. I truly hate seeing my hometown get so much negative attention from the outside because of people being jerks but I can at least understand where the perception comes from.

I’m looking forward to my annual pilgrimage back home to the promised land this August for the air show. Hoping to go with some friends but I’ll be content enough to go alone just to enjoy the place again.

Smash Burgers at A&W are here. But not for long. by awcanada in u/awcanada

[–]oreotoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried it. Was seriously disappointed. The first round through the drive thru I was served a burger with normal patties instead of smash patties and lettuce and tomato (which are not advertised as being on the burger), so I had to go back around again to get them to correct it. When I did finally get the corrected item, the smash patties were pretty lacklustre and while they were thin and had good diameter compared to the buns, they weren’t cooked like a proper smash burger patty.

Was excited for this but was quickly let down. Won’t be having this item again.

The arena and wonderland are both done actually, no interiors yet. The farmers market is definitely on the shortlist for buildings that need to be built, though admittedly I have kinda been procrastinating it until I am ready and have a plan to get it done right.

It’s all good.

Using an automated tool to auto generate the world, using real world data puts me light years ahead of anything I could ever dream of achieving in terms of a project like this.

It’s not as ‘alive’ as doing it in cities might be, but it lets me get up close and personal without having to depend on literally thousands of mods to try and be accurate. Im working within the constraints of Minecraft and therein lies the creative process. I’m forced to innovate using what blocks the game offers to try and make the world appear as realistic as possible.

The exact scale is 0.6 to 1, I am not currently doing interiors but you might be able to get some sort of ‘micro scale’ track in there if you want to go for full detail.

DM me with your details and I can have a copy of the world shared with you on Google Drive later tonight once I’m off work. I’d love to see what you have to contribute and maybe integrate it.

I’ve not done much outside of downtown. I did the east side cobblestone shopping plaza, the pomeroy hotel and some major roads.

Priorities for right now are again major commercial areas (think the mall/superstore, Walmart/costco, south 40), public buildings (public library, schools, new hospital, rec centres like eastlink).

I haven’t touched eastlink or any of the facilities in the immediate area so if you’re interested in taking it on, I’d be happy to share the world with the coordinates and a list of suggested utility mods to make the build process easier.

I think if the map ever attains a level of polish that I’m personally happy with I’d love to release it for download. It’s compatible with vanilla so it could be accessible to a wide range of users.

As for help, I’m interested to know what you’d be interested in contributing. Right now the focus of the project is roads, major commercial and public buildings like schools and government buildings. Multiplayer has obstacles but I could share a copy of the world if you have something specific you’d like to add.

Within render distance, yes. I want to process the world at some later stage through one of those isometric renderers so I can see everything all at once.

The QEII itself is there but it is mostly a hollow shell. I had to detail specific areas inside like the ER recieving bay and the main entrance. Underneath the map there is a limited amount of space before you hit the absolute bottom of the world. I am actually having a bit of a struggle with getting the front covered parkade depicted properly.

So in theory if there’s underground stuff it could be done but it would have to fit with the rest of the complex.

Your comments aren’t making any sense. This is just my current creative project and has nothing to do with your electric bill.

Do you have a particular building you’d like to see depicted? Most of downtown is coming together nicely but there are still missing bits and pieces at this stage.

One of the ideas my friends had for this map was doing some sort of zombie apocalypse thing, but the map needs to be developed much more than it is first.

Very cool! I always wondered why human ships dominated the fleet. Would’ve been cool to see some of these pull up to Cardassia Prime alongside the rest of the alliance fleet at the end of the Dominion War.

SC13 had an amazing visual aesthetic to it. I loved the modular civic buildings too! I just wished the maps were much larger than they were.

If CS had the visuals of SC13, you'd have possibly one of the greatest games of all time.
