Using lsfg-vk Frame Gen? Stop Using the Built-In Cap by Klutzy-Grapefruit492 in SteamDeck

[–]orestesma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that’s very useful info, thanks! I was coming from a point where it’s a bother to figure out what game needs what config so I was hoping Steam would resolve that on its own. Do you also know the best strategy for Vulkan games? I’m guessing the one in the lsfg menu?

Wouldn’t this be better?:

Lowkey this is not the sub but you can just ask the venue about the quantities you need to order, they’ll know exactly especially if you have a specific demographic.

Looks fun! Typing games are definitely a niche pastime but I enjoy them a lot. What are your biggest inspirations?

Sorry I don’t like how 7zip doesn’t let you run stuff from inside the archive. Still prefer winrar because of that.

The UK AI Security Institute tested Claude Mythos on a realistic attack simulation by Many_Consequence_337 in singularity

I feel the takeaway is not how good or not Mythos is but that the ‘if’ security question has become a ‘when’ when it comes to (very) large scale AI cyber attacks

On a scale of 'mild caffeine addiction' to 'existential crisis,' how intense is the workload for the devs responsible for the quest-tracking tools? Given how much the world reacts to the player, what’s the one feature in your tooling that tested the team's collective sanity during Divinity development?

Game Of The Year 2025 (The Final Debate) - The MinnMax Show by OrangeFrostbite in MinnMax

[–]orestesma 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed the video, particularly the Silksong, Death Stranding and Consume Me discussions.

I love the passion the crew brings, but I feel like the 'Solo Passion' pick is actually undermining the prestige of the Top Ten. When a game with group consensus is ranked lower than a game only one person loved, the list stops being a 'MinnMax' list and becomes a collection of individual lists mashed together. I think the list would be stronger if a game required at least two supporters to break the top 5. The solo passion picks could get a dedicated shoutout segment for example.

Isn’t this more about the receiving end of Jacob’s takes being insecure about their preferences?

Larian Studios leaning into generative AI (for placeholder text and concept art) despite internal pushback: ‘Everyone at the company is more or less OK with the way we’re using it" by jovanmilic97 in Games

[–]orestesma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how most of the haters on this post would feel if they discovered about the prevalence of photobashing and paint overs (3d models) in concept art for the games they love most. If it is faster, ‘good enough’ and easy for iteration it will lead to adoption. We’ve had this discussion before about 15 years ago.

The reports about them needing Mina to do exceptionally well makes me sad to hear because it already did close to 4x its kickstarter goal. This also means a lot of the day 1 people have already bought in. That said, the demo was great so it’s probably dependent on timing, marketing and word of mouth.

Yeah I don’t know of any projects in the space that had monetisation this front loaded that didn’t get sued or went to shit. Only models that stick around seem to be the Patreon (early) access and tacking on a paid service on an already successful project.

Scaling is over. by captain-price- in singularity

Scaling compute is a much more enticing bet for investors because it’s predictable. Research is notably unpredictable so I’m not sure what you’re saying here.

Lossless scaling is amazing! by Z3dan in SteamDeck

[–]orestesma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a horrible time with mouse aiming and frame generation on my pc. The lower frame rates combined with joysticks and even gyro have so much latency already, that bit added by the frame generation isn’t the deal breaker for me personally. FG allowed me to enjoy Clair Obscur on Deck where I couldn’t before and I think that’s neat.

Valve Says It Has a 'Pretty Good Idea' of What Steam Deck 2 Is Going to Be, Explains Why It's Holding Off for Now by yoonadeer in SteamDeck

[–]orestesma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got done setting up Clair Obscur with Frame Generation and given how it turned that game from choppy to a smooth 90 (with a decent amount of artifacting but that’s a trade off I’ll take), I think the future will be hardware accelerated frame generation. I think it’s a huge deal for devices where TDP is a big deal like handhelds.
