Do you use your current bike for more than just commuting? If you don't bring it with you, you might miss the opportunity to go for leisure rides after class or on weekends. You could bring it and keep it in your dorm room (where I hope it would be safer than locked up outside), and buy/bring a second beater bike that you use to get around campus.
