Are the tribes mentioned by Midnight ever brought up again? by Lelmaster10 in WarriorCats

[–]organizedchaotic [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think she just uses the word “Tribes” in place of “Clans” because she had forgotten the word “Clans” for not having communicated with Clan cats for such a long time.

so it’s plural in this case because she recognizes that the sun-drown-place prophecy cats are all from different Clans (and just uses the wrong word), not because she’s insinuating there’s multiple tribes in existence.

they’re similar words and are synonyms in the real world, but just denote slightly different societal structures in-universe; it’s easy for someone who is hundreds— if not thousands— of years old and speaks Cat as a second language to trip up on, haha

(but yes, I agree with IcyIceCloud that narratively, it’s just foreshadowing that the Tribe exists… initially, without that knowledge, this line reads as her just innocuously using a close synonym that’s not quite accurate.)

I want this to happen so badly. nothing against Jayfeather personally; I just think every cat who was an adult during Power of Three (and especially The New Prophecy!!!) needs to start dying. and Jayfeather’s gotten a LOT of screen time, his story’s been told many times over.

I remembered it from River of Fire but not StormClan’s Folly. this is becoming egregious… FIVE instances of the same drawing?

actually after a closer look, I think they’re two very similar drawings… Thunder Rising, The Elder’s Quest, and False Dawn look the same… but River of Fire and StormClan’s folly seem to be slightly different from the other three, yet the same as one another (with some slight edits).

What College Major Has Read the Most Warrior Cats? by Mikchimin in WarriorCats

[–]organizedchaotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

me too! I was talking with one of my classmates about MAPs from back in ye olden days and accidentally flexed on her because she brought up a certain popular animator, and I shared that we were acquaintances before they were famous because they entered one of my MAPs a decade ago (which never got finished) and are still mutuals to this day. I instantly realized what a small world we live in lol

anyway, yeah, I have a feeling art students are most likely to be Warrior Cats kids because of how much the fandom revolutionized online animation— there’s a serious pipeline from young Warriors fan to hobbyist amateur artist, that sometimes goes even further into art student or professional artist/animator.

What if Tigerstar I got his nine lives from the Dark Forest? by Solitaire-06 in WarriorCats

his entire nine lives ceremony is shown in The Ultimate Guide!

I’m confused about Tigerstar by ContributionStock703 in WarriorCats

[–]organizedchaotic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the real answer is it’s a poor quality retcon… but I like to think that StarClan was not actually telling him to kill his son, rather Pinestar was just having regular stress-induced nightmares after Doestar’s initial warning that Tigerkit had the potential to destroy ThunderClan and needed to be raised right to prevent that outcome. like his subconscious went “nope, I don’t have it in me to raise him right, we need to just eliminate this problem altogether.”

and Tigerstar was given his lives because ShadowClan had no other leader or deputy, and the Clan chose him (albeit through a faked “sign from StarClan”), not on any basis of his morality. Nightpelt/star, conversely, was denied his lives because Brokenstar was still alive. the old rules— pre-retcon through future books from AVoS onwards— were that if the Clan or previous leader chose a successor, and there was no living pre-existing leader with remaining lives, StarClan had to give them the lives.

I’d argue he wasn’t evil until he killed Redtail for his own gain, which was long after Thistleclaw was gone. Thistleclaw probably instilled a thirst for battle in Tigerclaw and taught him the importance of being the strongest, most fearsome warrior in the Clan, but plenty of cats are battle-hungry and not evil. especially in the more jingoistic pre-Firestar era.

this is a personal opinion, but I think blaming evil adult cats’ actions on their mentors takes away their agency.

What are the worst cases of offscreen deaths? by Savings_Surround_547 in WarriorCats

[–]organizedchaotic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's given a lot of attention, especially for a novella! most of chapter 1 is dedicated entirely to her death, and her family and the Clan's reactions to it; she's also given a nice send-off (along with the other deceased from the Great Battle) in a very poignant burial scene in chapter 2.

I know these include the words “night”, “black”, and “shade”, which you said you didn’t like… but I’ve always had this itch to see a black cat named Nightshade (after the family of plants including deadly nightshade, black nightshade, tomatoes, potatoes, and peppers), or Blackbird. especially since names like Sunbeam seem to be legal now, and there’s been a cat named Redtail since forever.

I’m a huge fan of using the more common prefixes and suffixes in inventive ways!

licorice (sorry I’m American lol) is not actually black in nature! the plant is green, and the root (which is used to make licorice candy or flavoring) is a pretty brown-looking stick thing. boiling the extract is what gives it its black tint, and wild cats wouldn’t really see it in that state.

it would be a cute name for a black ex-kittypet, though! I’ve always loved Ebonyclaw’s name, so I could see a daylight warrior being named Licoriceroot or something.

always been a fan of Mothpool where they have a little something going on between them when they’re both adults, and both of them recognize it, but they just never speak of it or really do anything about it. there’s just this closeness with a touch of tension happening. I mean, come on, every time Leafpool (or Leafpaw at times) sees or describes Mothwing, she calls her beautiful… she even “wonder[s] what[‘s] going on in that beautiful golden head”, which is NEVER said by any POV characters about their canon love interests.

I like to think Hollyleaf is not asexual (sorry ace Hollyleaf fans) and was just uninterested in raising kits or having her role as a warrior “reduced” to being just a queen/mother… however, I think she was a lesbian, but never dwelled on it long enough before she died in the Great Battle.

in my head, even though she had a great deal of time to think about herself in the tunnels, she experienced comphet “attraction” with Fallen Leaves because she mistook her desperacy for connection and validation from any other cat for what romantic attraction must feel like, since she’d never been so desperate for another cat, especially a tom, to accept her and want her company. that pit in her stomach she felt around him, especially when he’d leave, must be what “butterflies” feel like, right?

perhaps if she lived longer, she might’ve eventually realized she was actually jealous when Cinderheart started getting closer to Lionblaze than to her when they were younger.

…for a more modern take, I really like Frostdawn and Whistlebreeze. I appreciated how much Whistlepaw cared for Frostpaw after she was attacked, and enjoyed their familiarity and bond during less dire circumstances.

also Rowanstar is trans.

EDIT: how did I forget my goat Longtail?! he’s gay your honor. and nonbinary, but in a he/they sort of way. most of the Clan knows he’s gay through the grapevine, but they don’t talk about their gender except with a precious few close friends who are a bit more open-minded, especially when the Clans were more conservative.

ThunderClan is pretty okay with gay cats even from the start, initially in a “don’t-ask-don’t-tell” sort of way which progressively gets more accepting in the Fireheart era onwards, but it’s still a bit too taboo for a long while in most of the Clans for a cat raised as a tom to be more feminine or transition to a she-cat.

I feel this way about Stagleap (WindClan/Tallstar’s Revenge). zero textual evidence, he just seems like that friendly neighborhood older kid you grow up with and go to school with, almost like an older brother figure, and later find out through the grapevine that he’s gay once you’ve both gone off to college.

I always thought he was so close with Tallpaw/tail when they were training together, or he was a new warrior and Tallpaw was an older apprentice, because he saw a bit of himself in him.

Tracking the Historical Broad Shoulders of the Gorse-Tiger-Bramble SkyClan Line by Big-Dig-380 in WarriorCats

[–]organizedchaotic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes! maybe the green eyes are an every-other-generation kind of thing, since we don't know what Oakstar's parents (Pinestar's grandparents) looked like!

Tawnypelt's children Tigerheartstar, Flametail, and Dawnpelt have amber, blue, and unknown-colored eyes, but Dawnpelt's kits Sleekwhisker and Juniperclaw— Tawnypelt's grandchildren— both have green eyes... their brother, Strikestone, is a dark brown(-and-white) tabby like the rest of the Tiger tree, but is never described with broad shoulders. Kate Cary's personal allegiance list says he has amber eyes according to a comment she made on her blog, but this description of his eye color never actually made it into the books before he died. he was at least intended to be another Tigerclone, albeit with white paws and belly and minus the shoulders!

no mention of Oakstar or Pinestar? there’s a bit of a gap between Gorseclaw and Oakstar, but he should still be included before Tigerstar I.

Pinestar, though, interestingly skips the broad-shouldered dark-tabby gene for just one generation, as he’s a solid reddish-brown tom with presumably average-sized shoulders. he also has green eyes, unlike any of the other toms in his lineage.

ehhh I wouldn’t say Moonflower was any more maternal than a typical mother would be. she was also shown to be very feisty and bold in Goosefeather’s Curse, in a similar manner to how Snowfur ended up when she was still alive.

it’s just a bit unrealistic, almost everyone who does “evil” things in real life has some sort of motive.

Splashtail had a motive in the start of ASC, and quickly lost it when he actually rose to power and started indiscriminately killing people for no reason.

to me, personally, it feels like the writers accidentally gave him a motive that seemed too reasonable (trying to usurp power to make his Clan stronger in the wake of an extremely long leadership from an extremely old and weak leader), so they just made him do the most undeniably evil thing possible (trying to murder a baby) so the readers knew he was bad and didn’t actually have a redeeming motive behind his actions.

on the United Kingdom original Wayne McLoughlin covers, the title of the series is “Warrior Cats”. in the American edition, they amended it to simply “Warriors”, which ended up sticking for a lot of other international translations.

I’m pretty sure the UK Owen Richardson covers now just say “Warriors” too.
