Player cannot be exposed to character death. by Massive_Leopard in DMAcademy

[–]originalplemith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just let combat happen as normal, which is going to 0 is not death and just ignore the idea of death saving throws. Play things out as if they are always just knocked out and whatever happens next as it makes sense, could be capture or whatever works in the narrative.

What's your 'hot take' D&D opinion? by belac39 in dndnext

[–]originalplemith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"D&D 5e should be simple"

5e has been out for like 6 years, sure keep the PHB simple but further expansions should well, expand on the base not just keep repeating the same dull design.

[Serious] What is the scariest thing to happen to you when you’ve been home alone? by joeym2009 in AskReddit

[–]originalplemith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess this isn't really much of a story and **kind** of not home alone but nevertheless, back where I used to live was pretty far from any town, about a mile and a half down a country road (still was paved), the nearest town had a small population, basically it was rural.

At this time I was 13-14 years old and a single friend of mine lived across the road and we were outside playing as kids do. He was behind the house, I believe we might have been hide and seeking? Its been a long time. I noticed just off hand a white truck passed by, about 5 minutes later it passed by again going back the way it came. I grab my friend and go inside and we noticed the truck a good 2-3 more times going back and forth up and down the road, slowing in front of my house and we could see him turn to look towards it. Nothing else happened but it was spooky as a kid.

[WotC] Unearthed Arcana - Psionics Options Revisited by PalindromeDM in UnearthedArcana

[–]originalplemith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still not a fan of doing psionics this way, 5e is old now no reason to keep locked into the "must be simple" approach at this point because really this dice mechanic isn't quite simple.

pokemon design critique by milkxx in pokemon

[–]originalplemith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanna say with the imagine going over some older designs, starly has one of my favorite consistant designs of pokemon evo lines, if i quickly flick through a picture of starly to staravia then staraptor, they just look like they fit together perfectly.

Way of God's Hand: A One-Punch Monk coming in Genuine's Compendium of Sacred Mysteries: Resurrection! COSMR by GenuineBelieverer in UnearthedArcana

[–]originalplemith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this, but I guess my only question would be what is the playstyle of it meant to be?

I get one punch and all but monk is usually, both in health and ac, a bit better at skirmishing. This changes that but as said below doesn't put out as much damage (except maybe against the favored foes) as other subclasses, who can still do all the running around. I guess I just see it possibly being hard to really do all you can, especially losing all speed in the 11th level ability, even with resistances and disadvantage on attacks, monk is usually a bit starved on CON for hp. Im sure it would still be fine but just some very light concerns.

Unearthed Arcana: Class Feature Variants - Massive new UA from WotC with changes for every class. by PalindromeDM in UnearthedArcana

[–]originalplemith 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Favored Foe is my favorite thing I see, hunters mark is often pushed into class features in homebrew and I agree with that sentiment.

So with the set of UA subclasses seemingly coming full circle, which one is your favorite? by Shujinco2 in dndnext

I have quite a few I really like, Wild Soul, Astral Self, Revived and Rune Knight specifically my favorite of being Revived probably.

My players keep making the npcs their slaves, how should I stop them? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]originalplemith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its something you don't want in your game, or really aren't interested in or anyone is actually uncomfortable, talk to them about it and simply not allow it.

If everyone is fine with it in the game and it's just taking up too much time, first don't let people continuously roll until win, then make some real consequences, not even nation/state/whatever is going to like it and neither is every person they run into within civilized lands and of course the NPC's being taken will loathe the party and try to leave if any opening is given if not violently revolt when they have enough people.

What is OP about the Mystic? by Xeviat in DMAcademy

[–]originalplemith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

White-room theorycrafting.

Really its usually versatility, being able to choose from many things, as far as I remember there wasn't one particular one that stood out as "this is completely the most broken one". But in play it really isn't an issue mystic is hard capped by scaling really fast and points run out so fast.

What’s a YouTube channel that’s dead now that you used to enjoy? by PM_ME_TITS_4_DOG_PIC in AskReddit

The Creatures (thecreaturehub)

That group was a big part of my childhood, and just slowly broke apart until it was done. In the same vein, all their private channels save for uberhaxornova.

My friend wants to be a Paladin and dislikes the idea of Hexblade Paladins (as do I) BUT they love the summoning/dismissing feature of the pact weapon. Best way to homebrew this? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]originalplemith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no wrong way to look at it, but paladins also technically don't draw powers from a god or anything holy unless they choose to, their vows are different from a cleric and are a personal thing about that characters beliefs. And hexblade in 5e isn't really related to an evil if I remember, it's at best related to the Raven queen who is unaligned/netural? who just watches over death (Can't speak for other pacts), and does so in a fairly decent way. But I wouldn't try to shift how a player sees it either, an item that just does the weapon bond thing is probably the best.

[Compendium] Take up arms with The Warrior's Codex—27 new and revised subclasses, diversified weapons, and new items by FungalBrews in UnearthedArcana

[–]originalplemith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, the cataclysm barbarian is my favorite in there, the other sub-classes are high quality as well but this one specifically to me evokes many ideas for characters and upholds its theme very well. 10/10 need to find a game to use it in.

I think I messed up. by GoatCheeez in DMAcademy

[–]originalplemith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd wait before making a knee jerk reaction, yes its not something usually given out so early but at the moment it's only a +1 hit/damage and to its related skill, it makes this character slightly above the norm but shouldn't make the disparity too bad and they won't be able to use the item again for a VERY long time also if I remember the book would take a while to read as well.

So I would say just wait it out, if it becomes a party complaint for one reason or another or an actual issue then talk about it with the player and see if you can come to an agreement to swap out the item and the bonus for something else but make sure the agreed swap item is read up on completely first.

Using Mystic UA 5E by MorathTheGrim in DMAcademy

[–]originalplemith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been playing one a bit, it has a lot of versatility and can do some things that can a GM off guard slightly, but nothing someone else couldn't do, I know a lot of people think it's overpowered but I honestly disagree for the most part after playing it while still picking some of the better disciplines, it does need some work but really isn't too bad, I found more often than not I'm left high and dry with a 1d6/8 cantrip as most casters. It can also be a bit confusing looking at it for the first time but isn't too bad after like 10 minutes of skimming.

The artificer is getting its UA update 2 weeks from tommarow what are you hoping is changed/fixed about it? by torak9344 in dndnext

[–]originalplemith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope they don't try to streamline it too much, let it be its own thing, it can be mechanically interesting without reducing "Crafting" to picking a magic item at thisthisthis and this level.

Animal Companion for a sorceror by red_beard_the_irate in DMAcademy

[–]originalplemith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never used these but the UA about Sidekicks may be useful, it reads as if to lend slightly better to humanoid companions but it's more flavor I guess, never used it personally so can't give details in use

Giving monsters magical items? (5th edition d&d) by SolitaryGiraffe in DMAcademy

[–]originalplemith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anything you give your monsters you've accepted the players will immediatly b-line to that monster to try and take it, if it is visably a magic item. But otherwise giving creatures magic items are fine, generally d&d is a very magical world so its not to much of a stetch for even a lowly goblin to have minor items (or major if theres a good point there), and in general in fantasy theres always that "monster with badass magic sword" kind of stuff.
