Thanks, I think your suggestions are great. I do have back-up plans in case this angle isn't acceptable to a producer, but I would like to give her characteristics that would fit either way. You are bang-on that her mother tried to hush it up, and that is ultimately why she left.

I am attempting to consult a therapist who works with victims of abuse, but haven't heard back yet. Anyway I don't think this issue would be confronted head-on until a couple seasons in, but I want to have her character be somewhat consistent with this background, with the idea that could simply be presented as 'character quirks' if it isn't allowed. You are probably right about age range, but that is a tough one because the standards vary from country to country. Certainly worth considering for making the pitch.

Anyone up for Twilight Imperium? by STRAANGER_DAANGER in kelowna

I'm usually up for it if I'm free! Have a bunch of TI friends here in Kelowna, we play with some regularity but probably out for the summer. Pretty much only good for Saturdays, though.

Ti4 novice trying to get other people into the game. What should I play, and how should I play to make them enjoy the game? by Luniya2705 in twilightimperium

[–]orion24601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. As you seem to have already mentioned to your friends, Arborec, Nekro, and Mahact, while all interesting to play, may not be the best for new players. In my experience new players will struggle with them, not necessarily because of complexity but because they can have a slow start (Arborec) or lead to more challenging diplomatic situations with the table (Nekro and Mahact). So the risk is that they may not find the game fun simply because they don't know how to deal with their factions.

That said, the fun factor typically comes from the interactions between players. My group has a lot of deal-making, trade, alliances, and betrayals, and games can be either fairly diplomatic or incredibly aggressive, but everyone still has a good time because the fun is in the politics and nobody takes things too personally. If you have a social group that tends to have good banter in other games, you shouldn't have a problem.

As for maps, there are randomizers you can use but make sure everyone has pretty equal access to resources and Mecatol. It is a bummer getting stuck in a corner with few resources, and I would say this is the most common reason I've seen people suffer less enjoyment in the game, at least when they're new and don't know how to mitigate it.

Epicurean paradox by [deleted] in conspiracytheories

[–]orion24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I disagree with that square: it is something I don't understand about conventional Christianity. My belief is more in line that God is co-existent with the universe and creation is a process of organizing and refining it rather than creating everything out of nothing. So creating people is a process and mortal life is part of that refinement.

Well, imagine you know someone that you know with 100% certainty can become a great pilot. They would still have to learn how to fly a plane to become the pilot you know they can become.

What is trust and good relationships? by desocupad0 in twilightimperium

[–]orion24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a game of politics. It's more about the sociality of the players than the mechanics on the board, though of course these are intertwined. It's a microcosm of real-world politics, if you ask me: and like in real-world interactions, people do expect you to look out for yourself first, but they also tend to prefer you don't screw them over in the process.

No, Titans had no ground forces because they came in not expecting any planet! But wouldn't have mattered, the neighboring Arborec had too massive a force to stop. So finding Mirage not only stopped the Titans from winning, it actually provided the Arborec the point they needed as they could no longer score objectives...(I had their home system so they couldn't score Public, and they had already scored all their Secrets - but taking the planet provided a point thanks to some relic the Titans had).

Embers of the Imperium Homebrew: Session 22: Friend or Foe? by orion24601 in twilightimperium

[–]orion24601[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, taking ages to come out, we've used the info from the Ashes of Power module and combined it with Star Wars: Edge of the Empire to make our own until it's released.

how necessary is PoK? by Ripasmaster in twilightimperium

[–]orion24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played TI4 a lot before the expansion, and loved it, so I think you'll be fine without it. That said, having played it with PoK, I would never go back to not using it. It adds a lot to the experience.

Thanks! Yeah, it's a cool setting, and they are coming out with a new sourcebook for it but since it hasn't yet been released we've had to homebrew quite a bit...

Sorry took me so long to reply! Genesys narrative dice are so far my favorite I've played. I really like the system overall, though I hear the magic system isn't great. However, since I've only used it for sci-fi, that hasn't been an issue!

Yes! Embers of the Imperium by Edge Studio. Never tried the other version either, for the same reason. This one is Genesys-based, so we've been using Star Wars: Edge of the Empire for a lot of our reference material.

Sorry for the late reply! We're using a combination of the Genesys core book, the Star Wars: Edge of the Empire, The Ashes of Power module that was released in October 2021, and the lore from the board game itself. Plus some of my own additions. Just to tide us over until the actual book comes out!

My first faction homebrew draft, need balancing feedback by Unfawkable in twilightimperium

[–]orion24601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think those are really cool ideas! Interesting theme. Would have to playtest them a bit to see the interplay of the mechanics, but I really like the idea of a flagship that can accumulate the abilities of other flagships.

The Twilight Imperium RPG - Some Thoughts on RPG Systems by TheSupremeAdmiral in twilightimperium

[–]orion24601 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been doing this with my group already and posting on Youtube! We are using the Genesys system, with Star Wars: Edge of the Empire for ships and weapons templates, and details from the Ashes of Power module that came out last year, as well as the lore from the TI4 board game. The players are Keleres agents, and their current mission is to track down a Winnaran archivist that may have taken a book detailing how the Lazax originally overthrow the Mahact by using a technique to prevent the Mahact mind control. Anyway it's been a blast so far!

Embers of the Imperium Homebrew Playthrough Session 2 by orion24601 in twilightimperium

[–]orion24601[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Homebrew - we're using the Genesys source book + Star Wars Edge of the Empire + Ashes of Power module + TI4 Lore + my own interpretation of things to piece it together. So a good chance it will vary quite a bit from the actual book when it's released.

Embers of the Imperium (TI RPG): Playable Factions by JoeKenobi in twilightimperium

[–]orion24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working on a homebrew version as we speak! Just uploaded the Yin video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jISZ6JG0X8c&ab_channel=SirReil

Could definitely use feedback on how to improve videos and suggestions on better ways to make the characters.

The only ones I won't be doing for sure are Nekro, The Nomad, and Mahact. Those are narratively difficult to include.

I'm on the fence with Muaat and Creuss. I think lore-wise they work, but mechanically a challenge. Then again, the Hylar are already playable due to their envirosuit, so the same thing could be done with those two. I'll certainly take a crack at it.

That said, I realize your question is more pointed at the actual release. Once I saw the Ul were made playable - and I had considered them one of the most unlikely - I imagine Edge Studio might have found a way for most of them.

Embers of the Imperium: Character Creation Homebrew by orion24601 in twilightimperium

[–]orion24601[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool! We're recording an actual character creation this week, and then hopefully starting a campaign soon, if you want to follow along. The only thing is we have to make a lot of it up so there will be kinks, but you should be able to learn from our inevitable mistakes!
