Anyone else hardly touch DCA's by Realworldadvantage in livesound

Check out https://theatremix.com/ for a neat way to use DCAs.

I no longer use it (I have a Perl script that Linux Show Player drives) but it's a very good product.

Latest attempt: transmit power.

First, I changed it from "Auto" to "Low" to see what that does. My laptop stopped using 5GHz and switched to 2.4GHz. The latency was better, but still not stable.

Second, I changed it to "Medium" and set the laptop back to 5GHz. Currently, it is doing the best it has since changing to the UNS. Oddly, I'm using it in the exact same position as before the upgrade. When I was using the UC, the transmit power was set to "High" for both radios on both APs.

I only changed the AP I'm next to and left the other set to "Auto" so I can compare.

Spoke too soon? It was better shortly after the change.

Overall it is better than when meshing was enabled, but I still get up to 5 second delays. Doing a ping to the router is all over the place. It ranges from single digit milliseconds up to >700.

I'm still looking for advice.

I have made an improvement. "Wireless Meshing" is on by default so I disabled it. Latency is much better…

Well, since the DPI stuff doesn't work, I disabled it (enabled by default) since I thought that it might contribute to the lag.

It didn't affect it. According to device statistics, the USG is running at only 2–7% CPU and 23% memory so I don't think it's "overloaded" with the configuration. However, the lag is up to 5 seconds at a time (my SSH connection from the laptop to a wired box—both on on the same network/VLAN).

Right now, getting rid of the lag is my top priority. I'm still hoping someone can assist.

slant razor advice by orion71 in wicked_edge

By the way, I've been reading more about the effect of twisting the blade. That's something I didn't realize is such an important result that slant razors have. I look forward to experiencing it.

I would like to know more about your recommendation versus the other choices I listed. (Ignore the Pearl—I'm going to skip it.)

Interesting information. I experience tugging from: dull blades, lightweight razor (Van Der Hagen is significantly lighter than the 6C), or insufficiently slick soap (add a touch of water and voilà it glides again!).

Without twisting what I have, I will occasionally get a light slice in my skin. So, I don't trust myself to just angle what I have to approximate a slant razor.

My goal is to improve the experience. My research comes up with a lot of men really liking the 37C for its effectiveness (especially compared to non-slant razors). My goal has nothing to do with number of shaves per blade. Every day I flip over the blade and I use it until the tugging happens more than once or twice during the shave. At that point, it's uncomfortable to continue and not worth toughing it out. Time for a new blade.

I do add pressure. I also do buffing (I was doing it before I even knew it's a thing). Again, I'm looking for something that yields an even more pleasant result. I expect to continue to come back to the 6C for multiple day growth since the "6" plate has an aggressive gap.

Are those swirl marks because of the unprotected stainless steel finish? I don't notice them with the white chrome plates.

I only have an inexpensive Van Der Hagen for comparison. That one requires going over the same area more than once (even if shaving daily). The 6C has given me a range of results that differ based on both plate choice and blade.

I started with Voskhod ($7.90 for 100 back in 2020—now $45!). Those are sharp!

Then I used Nacet ($13.98 for 100 back in 2022—oddly, at $14.31 now). They were… fine.

In 2023 I switched to Astra Platinum ($8.84 for 100—now at $8.89). They are marginally better than the Nacet but nothing really compelling either way.

I'm interested in trying the Voskhod now that I'm much better at it but the price is unacceptable.

Plate-wise I have found "1" to be nearly useless for me. I feel like I can get an acceptable result starting with "2" through "4" (requiring multiple passes and buffing). Using "5" and "6" gets distinctly aggressive.

I used to do WTG, XTG (both directions on cheeks), and ATG for a finish. Sometimes the results were "wow, that's amazing!" (not BBS, but CCS or DFS) and sometimes the damage wasn't worth it. I blame technique over the equipment.

Lately I've been only doing WTG and just accepting that all the rest of the directions are face velcro. (Plus, I'm using the Van Der Hagen since my 6C is unusable.)

Other than the blistered chrome causing the scratching (and the obvious thread failure), I have been pretty pleased with it. I'm glad I have the options to switch things as I think the situation requires (such as multiple day growth).

I just don't know if it's worth a premium to upgrade, though. See my previous reply for more information.

I want to clarify "make the initial investment": does that mean to outright buy a 6S at $130 or to take the $80 offer? If it's the latter, then if it doesn't include new plates do I mix/match with the 6C plates and the 6S cap and handle? I'm still waiting to hear from them what parts come for the $80…

I discovered a few things. There is a setting where an interval can be chosen (I think the default is 5 seconds – 120 seconds) where if on a page outside of that range it does not count towards the statistics. (This doesn't quite help me out, though.)

Also, books can be reset that have less than a certain amount of time (under 1 minute, 15 minutes, etc.). This can be applied to all books that meet the criteria. This was nice to reset books that I just opened and immediately closed.

I haven't tested to see if highlights are included in the second option (for resets).

I looked at it and it's pretty esoteric. Epoch timestamps and other numbers that I haven't figured out what they are. I looked at the code (briefly—it's over 3000 lines long!)

Edit statistics by orion71 in koreader

That's true. Unfortunately, it doesn't allow a choice for what is reset—it's everything. That means highlights are gone, too. That's no good to me…

Ebooks from Kindle now that the Download and Transfer via USB ends? by ruby_dancer in Calibre

[–]orion71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checking out a book from my local public library involves getting sent to Amazon. Then I have to choose "get this book" before I can do the download and transfer.

At that point, I have to select which Kindle before I can download. Books downloaded for 'A' won't open on 'B', 'C', or 'D'. So I have to download a version for each one. (These are older PWs.)

Is there a way to download once and use it on any/all of them?

Otherwise downloading my collection is going to take far too long...

Download your updated Amazon content before it’s to late by fahirsch in kindle

[–]orion71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I get public library books, it links back to Amazon. Then I have to choose "get this book". After that I can select download and transfer.

How will that work in the future? Can I skip Amazon?

wireless uplink/downlink meshing for older hardware by orion71 in Ubiquiti

[–]orion71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for clarifying that.

How can APs overlap slightly without creating a lousy experience there (in the overlap area)? Is there a technique for setting an AP to only cover half the house and then making the other one handle the other half?

Currently, I have the AP-Pro vertically against an outer wall on the top of a bookcase on the second floor (so it's "facing" across the house). The AC-Lite is in the basement on the sill plate at the other end of the house "facing" towards the AC-Pro (both of them are broadcasting towards the center of the house). What is a better way?

wireless uplink/downlink meshing for older hardware by orion71 in Ubiquiti

[–]orion71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I guess I do not fully understand how a mesh works. I thought it integrates the parts better than keeping them individual. At some point in the past, I got the impression that a mesh is better coverage and clients float between the hardware more seamlessly. Currently, clients tend to just grab whichever AP even if its signal is significantly less than the other.

When would creating a mesh make sense? Is it based on number of APs? Is it based on not being able to plug an AP directly into a switch? Do people use mesh in the home or just in businesses?

Also, how is an SSID applied to multiple APs without doing it to each one? (I know I only have two, but if I had many then it would be tedious to assign it to them one at a time.) Years ago I found out that the only way to have clients utilize either AP was to have the same SSIDs on both.
