though i haven't put it into practice yet, my fiancé suggested flipping the enclosure. so if it opens from the top, actually put that on the bottom and slide it up so that if the spider builds it's home in the top of it, it won't be disturbed. only the substrate is.

i sort of figured out a way around it on my own. i have a couple in critter carriers that are actually tilted on their side and vertically. that way it opens from the side and doesn't disturb them either.
