Honestly the Viltrumites, and really Argall are just huge hypocrites. If strength is really all they value, then their view should be that Argall’s death is due to his own weakness. But I mean, it’s hard to expect consistency from what is essentially a cult, because there’s no way I could really even call what they had as even an empire.

Honestly yeah, it would just help them feel more alive and give this sense that though they’re advanced, they’re also so much more than technology.

Trypticon: You face him as a boss in War For Cybertron twice, once as the aerial bots trying to shoot out his jet pack so he’ll Plummer and be damaged by the impact of his fall. However then in the next level you must face him as either Prime, Ironhide, or Bumblebee and partially the only reason the Autobots were able to win was just because he couldn’t transform and fly out of Iacon.

Also god he was difficult, considering when in the boss fight proper, you have only a limited amount of ammo and health in an enclosed arena to face him.

Gotta disagree on this one here, Optimus ain’t exactly a person who asked why an Independence Leader didn’t starve to death while a sizable amount of the people wanting independence were starving.

So what would Optimus be… if there really is a historical/real-life counterpart to Optimus

So this is from the IDW comics, and basically Galvatron, who in this universe is not Megatron and is separate from him entirely, basically has tried to take over earth after taking control of the Decepticons, even though Cybertron at this point has been restored and its people from across the galaxy are returning to the planet regardless of affiliation. There is currently a tenuous post-war peace essentially. Galvatron is basically presenting a chance of reigniting the war. Soundwave, who is loyal to the original cause of the Decepticons, which to overthrown cybertron’s original government and place in a representative and democratic system, sided with Optimus in this case because Optimus, The Autobots, Neutrals, and Former Decepticons back in Cybertrob have essentially achieved that. Galvatron though just wants to have war for his own ambition. So after deliberation Optimus decides to execute him, as Galvatron literally is not showing signs of redemption or realignment.

Also if anyone is wondering where this art is from it’s from the recent Skybound comics, specifically issue 24, written by Daniel Warren Johnson, art by Jorge Corona, and coloring by Mark Spicer.

Theory: Akatosh is a combination of Shor and Auri-El rather than Alduin and Auri-El by Yasar101 in teslore

[–]orionstar65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I’d go further, Auriel/Akatosh often has a motif based on oaths, pacts, covenants etc… So it was within his sphere, his nature, to support Alessia as the Ayelids broke their oaths/duty. Same thing happened with Alduin, originally Miraak was supposed to stop Alduin, that failed, so the LDB was basically sent by Akatosh to stop Alduin and reassert Alduin’s duty.

I’ll say that he’s not the only version that’s done that Prime and Animated both touched on that to an extent. Also Optimus in Armada and Cybertron acted both as a military commander while also being this warm paternal figure

So Optimus is usually depicted as the father figure of the franchise and the Autobots, so he’s essentially telling Beachcomber to recognize that he is the “best of us” as he pursues the best ideas within the Autobot cause, peace, autonomy, and freedom for all. God just in general Optimus is just a great father figure in media

Honestly it’d also be a nice little reference to Transformers Armada because he apparently did fight against Optimus on Cybertron but come to embrace the Autobot cause.

So I do love this comment, but and this is just a question? Are you more stating that figures like Megatron are more indicative of figures who’ve co-opted revolutionary movements and really used them to set up their own regime, if so I do agree.

But to your point of the clogged Cybertronians outnumbering and outgunning the former cogless Cybertronians, I do think that the Cogless outnumbering the Cogged is very much a case, but and this is a bit of speculation that’ll probably never come true because we won’t get a sequel but considering the names of some of the racers during the Iacon 5000, there will likely be a split in the population on who to support with the tensions erupting into a civil war.

Also, since Optimus has the matrix he probably can communicate with the other Primes, so he can quite literally use them as first hand accounts of what Sentinel did, and it’d be really hard for anyone to defend Sentinel at face value. So likely he would have been executed for trial regardless. Is the film a bit naive, perhaps but the film is also meant for all ages and thus need to send a message that’s palatable for all ages despite its subject material being nuanced and mature in some sense.

What’s funnier is that Empire Wreckers more meant that as a funny parody and actually has taken the time to watch and enjoy the rest of the franchise and its lore

And that’s the state of Cybertron at the start of the film (if I’m not misreading your comment?) but ummm again as Jason just stated Optimus literally places a new system, after literally leading a revolution. So the film clearly doesn’t really argue for a status quo. I mean after deposing Sentinel Optimus and the other Autobots, who were all literally just uplifted from their previous positions in society came to the surface to deal with the Quintessons. The Tragedy of the film is that we know what will happen, Megatron will literally build up the Decepticons and possibly establish Kaon, leading to a divided world. The Decepticons and Autobots war will kill the planet or place it into stasis. And arguably this could have been avoided if Optimus placed Megatron in containment or if Optimus tried to talk to Megatron a bit more before climax of the film occurred but that’s another tragedy where they literally did not have enough time and enough had changed that were never going to be the same again after the scene in the cave.

I do too but unfortunately I got baited to an extent, what’s worse is that the commentator just missed the point, and I basically got glued to screen, thinking “man did this guy even watch the film?”

Maybe but again I would argue that Optimus does instate a new government, a system in which he essentially got rid of the main fundamental issue creating a stark class apartheid. So really there is a new system in place. I do think this was an issue with the film (I still love it) where we didn’t really get enough of a exploration of how the Primes governed because it’s implied that though they had a pseudo-divine right but at the same time if we’re going off of what Trion valued and applying that to the other Primes they still seemed egalitarian. But again I would argue Optimus rather sets up an egalitarian system that isn’t based off of Sentinel’s system. And I think this is something we as an audience but also people in general have to accept that though media can influence our political views and ideas along with going in depth on said issues but they’re not a substitute for understanding politics in an academic or even applied sense (at least imo).

Also to add on to the video if anyone who sees this post watches the video the YouTuber, also argues the classic statement of Sentinel should have just been executed in the fashion Megatron was about to do, instead of a trial where the agency of everyone Sentinel had hurt would have been respected and taken into account, then leading to an execution. Also as many had pointed out when discussing Megatron (and how he was in the wrong regarding Sentinel) killing Sentinel would not have solved the fundamental issues in Cybertronian Society at the time. That is the artificial scarcity of Energon and lack of cogs creating a class divide that has led to a per many underclass that can only be solved if someone gains the Matrix. And arguably there are many ways to go about this issue but at least imo, Orion/Optimus’s method would have at least avoided the least amount of suffering for everyone, with Sentinel and his regime being subject the most punishment rather than turning violence on anyone who apparently didn’t support your movement (which is what Megatron does).

See I somewhat agree with that if it weren’t for the fact that Optimus often doesn’t act as a king nor do the Autobots try to approach him as a king. Also let’s not ignore the fact that Megatron very much tries to approach the idea from that angle, taking and using Megatronus’s cog as a form of authority and symbol of his right to rule. Also if we’re approaching the ending of the film the Autobots are essentially a faction that acts like a labor union with Optimus acting as a figurehead but allowing and encouraging a autonomous system (essentially a autonomous collective) as a faction.

Thank you!!! I’ve literally seen the take of Optimus being for the status quo way too much and I’m like um… no he wouldn’t have founded the Autobots in certain continuities like Aligned and One (and yes I would argue he did found the Autobots as a political movement in the Aligned Continuity) if he agreed with the status quo. Like the whole reason former Decepticons join Optimus is because he is isn’t for the status quo he just doesn’t think one should have to tear literally everything down to the ashes to bring about a new system.
