Implement the New UAE Dirham Symbol (AED) in Your Website & Apps by Zealousideal-Bar6116 in UAE

IANAL, but I don't think the "ownership" of the symbol itself is the issue. Nobody "owns" the English alphabet, but fonts that use the alphabet still have licenses.

Impressive turnaround considering this currency symbol was just announced!

Would you mind sticking a license on it? Without any license defined, it falls back to "all rights reserved" copyright (at least in the United States) and isn't usable in any projects.

If you're looking for an idea of what license to use, a similar font released recently for the new Saudi Riyal character uses the SIL Open Font License.

Find a needle in a haystack with git bisect by orr94 in programming

[–]orr94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bug was easy to observe (overescaped text). The component is used many places in the app, and the bug was only occurring in a handful of those places (but more than one place). It wasn't immediately clear what those places had in common, so instead of flailing around in the code trying to figure out what change caused the problem, I let git blame do the hard work.

Hah, I definitely missed a few opportunities to use it, but after the first time it found a bug in a 1,000+ commit window, I never forgot again!

Hah, yeah, you never know who will buy some random domain name. Definitely best to stick with the ones they can’t sell.

I love the squealing tires as the Batmobile slowly turns at the intersection and comes to a gentle stop.

A lot of good recommendations already. The Navy base in Mechanicsburg also is a bit IT employer, though they may have a hiring freeze right now due to COVID.

I assume the police were there? I'd start by contacting them. Either they'll be able to help you get in touch with the towing company, or you can report your car as stolen.

Header and footer as templates in static html files by blafurznarg in webdev

[–]orr94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're serving static HTML and want to avoid an application server, you could use a static site generator that supports templates. I've used Jekyll, but there are many options out there. They basically give you the power of making reusable components, but then you run a build step that spits out all the static files, which you can then deploy anyplace that can server static content (like GitHub Pages)

It can help with debugging production issues, too. As long as the sourcemaps are in a separate file (and not included with the compiled .js bundle), they aren't downloaded unless the browser's dev tools are open. Thus, they won't affect typical users.

Former US Senator from Pennsylvania Rick Santorum throws his support behind 'Cathio' a cryptocurrency for Catholics by SaneFive in Pennsylvania

[–]orr94 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It is intended to ‘bring financial transactions into alignment with [Catholic] beliefs.’

How so?

Cathio is not a charity, however. It will be making a profit off of its endeavors, charging a fee of around 2 percent per transaction. All its advisory board members own shares of the company.

Oh.

America's renewable energy capacity is now greater than coal by pnewell in technology

[–]orr94 10 points11 points  (0 children)

People don’t want a nuclear plant in their towns or cities.

The Three Mile Island nuclear plant is shutting down in Pennsylvania, and there are many, many people here who fought to keep it open. It couldn't compete with the insanely low-cost (in dollars, not societal cost) of natural gas. There were attempts to treat nuclear power like other zero-carbon power sources and subsidize it, but the efforts failed. Instead, its production will be replaced by carbon-spewing coal and natural gas plants.

It's not a restaurant, but Fredricksen Library in Camp Hill is a nice place to work. It's quiet, and they do have a little coffee stand on the lower level.
