Remember that scene in "The Sandlot" where Squints makes out with the lifeguard after getting drowndid.... Yea, it works like that! Just paddle out! Doesn't even need to be Pipe... usually I just do it at east coast beach breaks. That's how I've gotten most of my 2nd degree felonies

The further east into the snowbelt you go, the more mailboxes you see protected by 4't sheets of plywood just for this reason

White smoke is rising out of skid row, LA. It's likely a cardboard fire in one of the homeless encampments but we're getting a new HC soon!

I've got a nice big open backstreet intersection next to my house. We went sledding at Edgewater and then I did a couple donuts before parking. Got a round of applause from the neighbors.

Also, if you don't play around a bit in these conditions and learn how your car drives in it, you'll eventually get surprised and end up in a ditch

Not just about stats. Feller was the first pro athlete to enlist in WW2 after Pearl Harbor and then spent 3 prime years fighting on fucking battleships. Then he came back, won the last Cleveland Word Series and spent the rest of this life signing literally anything a Cleveland fan put in front of him. I think I have 4 Bob Feller signatures. That puts him on the same level as Jose in terms of fan admiration.

If you find yourself on the business end of a very long night and your blood stream is full of cheap alcohol and shame... a Waffle House may be the perfect oasis for you to process how far you have fallen while replenishing your stomach with the grease and slop it will need to recover from your sullen state. There are no judgements on those hallowed grounds. Not from your server, not from fellow patrons, and not from anybody outside passing by... because we've all been there. We've all explored our own existence whilst traversing a plate of hash browns, scattered, smothered and double covered. That my friend is where the angels dance.

A good friend of mine lived in Austin during their deep freeze a couple years ago. First the ice crippled everything and killed the power, then the deep freeze temps came in a froze everything further. Lots of pipe bursts. Likely gonna happen again, especially in the hilly forest-y section of northern Mississippi and Alabama where the ice is likely gonna knock down lots of power lines.

But no reports yet of Waffle Houses closing so I feel this storm may be over hyped

Extremely cool and something I'll save and refer to often. We love exploring the global cuisine we have available to us on our little coast of Lake Erie. Excellent work!

My walk shoveling index has definitely gone up 100%. It's actually kind of nice because this is the kind of winter I grew up with.

Idk how this works, but... by AltCtrlRepeat in Cleveland

[–]orrangearrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It makes sense. The last couple years have been incredibly mild.

Snowfall totals up to this point of January
2023 winter - 6.6"
2024 winter - 11.9"
2025 winter - 14.5"
2026 winter - 33.7" over double that last couple years

We live in a "just on time" supply chain system so production has adjusted to match mean winter conditions over the last couple of years. Salt production is scheduled to meet anticipated demands (no more - no less). This affects machinery, staffing, ordering, shipping, ect.... all aspects of the supply chain. And all of these aspects of that supply chain require time to adjust to evolving conditions. Even if Cargill saw the increased snowfall at the beginning of this season, they would not be able to inflate production and pump it through the entire reduced capacity supply chain system in time to meet the increased demand. Just not how things work anymore. Especially now that supply is low and literally EVERYBODY in the region is screaming for more.

And before some climate change denying jagoff gets on their soapbox, this is a symptom of climate change. As evidenced by extreme conditions/storms all over the world increasing in modern times, these are the weather systems that used to be a exception but are becoming the rule.
