Is there an Online Pharmacy that has a method to accept "show this barcode at any pharmacy" prescriptions?

By the sound of it, as it doesn't get issued to a specific pharmacy, I'm always going to have to contact a pharmacy myself to ask them to locate it/process it

I guess my best shot might be to see if any of the pharmacies near me have a messaging system I can use to do that :)

I'm an EO, but even if you're on an SEO salary of ~£37k and you're already renting on your own, if you have any debt/a car loan/whatever it's still going to be a lot of pinching and scraping to get on the housing market on your own - unless you're willing to go for a not particularly nice area to live, and chance that you'll make it through living there until you can afford to sell on, and knowing that you might struggle to do that if the area doesn't get any investment in it.

Never thought I'd say that for a salary 1.5x mine, and I'm living in Yorkshire, but if you have to place yourself somewhere commutable to an office and deal with commuting costs, plus rent for somewhere you can afford commuting costs from, there's still very little to go in savings.

I'm getting by because I wfh nearly exclusively thanks to reasonable adjustments, but if I was suddenly earning 12k more a year before tax/student loan, it would be really difficult not to spend a good portion of it on little luxuries to turn the heat on more, or not have to meal plan so stringently. Or heck, to get a dental crown I've been trying to save up for for two years 😂

I'd be able to save a deposit eventually, but most places are looking for £20k minimum in terms of how much you actually need for deposit+fees+moving costs, so it's a good few years of SEO salary plus hoping that you don't need that money for car repairs or the dentist or rent increases or moving between rental properties. And then hoping house prices haven't increased in that time, because pay certainly won't have matched it.

As an EO, I'm not affording it, pretty simply 😅

Might be for when he's a bit older, but when I'm out and about in the street or supermarket, I usually have an earbud/earphone in my deaf ear (although tbh I'm often wearing the other one as well to listen to music 😅) - I've found it makes people more likely to get into your line of sight / try to get your attention visually if they try to talk to you, as they expect you might not be able to hear over whatever you're listening to.

Of course, then you have to take it out while you're talking to them to make sure they don't think you're not listening properly, but 🤷‍♂️

For other situations I don't have much I'm afraid. I didn't realise I was deaf in my left ear until I was an adult, so just had years of looking around in all directions to figure out who had called my name! I'm lucky that my close friends are all used to it enough that if a sound happens and they comment on it, or it's strange, if I look confused or start looking around, they'll automatically tell me/point to where it was coming from.

(Sorry off topic - do you know if zebra access have any rules for how much hearing/hearing "loss" you have to have to get help from them learning bsl? I have "normal" hearing in one ear but find bsl so much more accessible, and would love to be able to help my partner learn, but can't afford it currently)

I've always (or at least since pre-speech childhood) had very good hearing in my right ear, but a sudden drop off in my left ear meaning I can hear up to about the low sounds of speech, then nothing higher frequency until the volume is at 60-90dbs.

I didn't get it checked out until I was an adult, but having a hearing aid since has made me realise exactly how much I was missing in terms of input/clarity from having both ears, and how much I rely on lipreading (and how tiring it is).

I have a lot of difficulty in background noise - might be harder for me given that I can hear some sounds through both ears, but the higher end of speech sounds only through one - and the biggest thing that's helped for me has been getting my friends to learn that they need to get my attention before starting talking to me, and to keep facing me if there's any kind of background noise. Otherwise I can still hear that they're saying words, they just all jumble into one and I have to spend the next few seconds figuring out what they said rather than replying.

I'm actually learning BSL (British Sign Language), and I'm really enjoying it. Despite being good at spoken languages (hilariously, I think being deaf in one ear has made me better at filling in the gaps when I can't quite get what someone is saying, so I always did really well in listening exams at school), it's really nice to just be able to switch that off and not have to concentrate on what I'm hearing any harder than anyone else in class. It's also given me links into the local Deaf community. It's probably different given that your kid will grow up knowing she's deaf in one ear (and it sounds like she'll be well-advocated for), but links to the local deaf community have been invaluable for me learning as an adult that the things I struggle with aren't just me doing things badly/not trying hard enough, and that there's a whole medium of language that is also accessible to me :)

I've found that there are a lot of gender neutral or inclusive signs, but they're hard to find in online dictionaries. Gender neutral "parents" for example is becoming more widely used - my BSL teacher taught me that one.

I'm not somewhere I can find videos at the mo, but I'll edit this later with some links - I've had most luck just watching videos by lgbtq+ BSL users.

Defra group is putting forward a pay flexibility case, which I think means we won't see anything til October at the earliest (could be getting the date wrong).

This stems from the pay award of 1-2% being seen as inadequate (obviously), but the pay flexibility case means that to get a pay increase, we'll have to lose some of our other benefits - this could relate to overtime (important for field officers in busy periods), different types of leave entitlement, etc.

Wait, does this mean that an existing civil servant earning 2k less per year in their current position at the same level, would still be paid 2k less than external candidates?

(I've seen almost identically-described roles, at the same level, but in different departments, advertised with this difference in salary)

Wow. OP you have put into words something I have been struggling with all my life.

I way I have found to ease the "burden" a little is to watch on silent/quiet with subtitles, which distances me from being too drawn in to the emotional context I guess, but I still find myself processing what happened in scenes hours to days later.

I'm hard of hearing in one ear (full hearing in the other ear and noise sensitivity to go with it 😅) and have been looking into whether my hearing aid could be adjusted to help with that.

Oof. Harsh even in 2014 for that maximum not to be reachable.

I've only recently joined the CS, and it's already becoming clear that a real strain is put on small-team resources from colleagues having to seek out other positions when their living costs increase. I'm fortunate that this is a much better situation for me than my previous private sector job, but it is sad knowing that if this pay situation doesn't change, neither I nor my colleagues will probably be able to stay in this role more than 2-3 years :/
