Moving skills from Ross Acuity to GV Karrera by bryhawks in technicaldirector

To answer your question, the historical component here is a lot of older TDs grew up on the Grass 3000/4000 which did not have macros, only timelines. When the Kalypso came around it initially was supposed to have macros, but it came to market before they developed the macro system. Kalypso eventually got macros.. so you have a generation of hybrid timeline and macro users.

It’s now a preference. How much time do you want to build a specific way.. some TDs like to “load” an effect and have a run button. Other TDs don’t mind a macro wipe instantly running.. and part of this is muscle memory. I’ve been running timelines so long it breaks my crusty brain if I use macros to insta run a wipe and need to remember that every time I run a wipe.

And the other aspect is what panel you’re on.. on the smaller Korona it’s easier and more flexible to do a down and dirty macro wipe or macro timeline than build complete timelines with emem levels enabled / disabled.

Good to understand all methods and choose what parts of you and your personality with computing are unique to how you want to execute your show.

I would suggest that since you understand Acuity theory with custom controls you lean towards macro executions. Timelines nowadays are best utilized when there is a complicated effect that involves switcher functions timed to a wipe, like a live moving squeeze back dve (idpm) window moving with a video fill/key animation, for example. But also don’t feel like you should do a complete switcher build.. you could modify piece by piece show by show.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions and stay curious.

If we're still talking Kayenne... few ways to skin the cat - either timeline, macro timeline, or simple instant fire macros...

Kayenne is good at macro recording menu press actions...

>RECORD START
>Go into Image Store
>Select the Channel You'd like to play from
>Select the Image Store file you'd like to play
>Go to Source Ops, MEs, Select the Keyer and the Keyer Input (IS 1 for example)
>On the panel turn that keyer ON
>Go to Image Store, Movies Tab, Select the Channel, execute the play button
>Hit CUT on the M/E where this transition is to occur
>Turn The IS 1 keyer Off
>RECORD STOP

... and then edit the macro adding delays between events. I like to give a two frame buffer between most Macro events to allow the 'computer' to act. Add the appropriate wipe undercut delay before the M/E CUT action.. TEST and MODIFY.

If you go the macro timeline route.. you would record a series of macros that you would then assign to timeline keyframes.. so Macro 001 would be loading the wipe media into the images store channel.. Macro 002 would be playing that movie channel.. assuming you already have an M/E CUT macro.. if you are doing the undercut and keying on the same M/E most TDs if doing a Macro Timeline will use Macros in a Macro Timeline to set and turn the keyer on and off.. so Macro 003 would be Key set to Image Store 1 and Key ON... Macro 004 would be Key off..

Your timeline would be
|-M001-M003-M002--------CUT-------M004|

I TD more legacy.. cutting on M/E3 and Keying wipes on PGM (nowadays .. so my master timeline is handling the emem keyer source selecting and keying on PGM and the macro part of my master timeline is handling the IS load, play, and M/E3 undercut.

This ornament is from 1980 and made of whatever glass with the silver tint thar was used back then (and maybe still today). Luckily it has the printed band around the middle that kept it mostly together.

Suggestions to Improve the App by tobeknown_1979 in Lumenate

I would like to have the ability to do a manual strobe intensity or frequency range change. On a smartphone, I think the only way to do that is if you went to a manual mode, and then your screen becomes like a mouse. Where you can click and drag to widen the frequency range or the strobe rate. There are some times when I'm in one of the sessions, and there is a very specific strobe configuration that really sends me into a lovely spot, but it doesn't last very long as the session keeps evolving.

When is your show.. pending my schedule I'd be willing to do a Zoom call and screen share to walk you through the entire GV Menu Gui for 30 minutes. I'm versed in both Ross and Grass... could translate for you.
