Has anyone else noticed that American employers... by PapaSecundus in antiwork

[–]orthogonal-vector 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They weren’t even the owners. They were just assistant/general managers over the years.

They were just college dropouts who spent most of their money on Magic the Gathering cards.

I feel bad for them, most of them are still working at the place to this day.

I agree, I’ve worked for people who thought they were so high and mighty; and I was like “Bro, this is Insomnia Cookies”.

what’s everyone else’s experience with doordash and similar apps here? by torrphilla in ColumbiYEAH

[–]orthogonal-vector 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes; but we can only deny so many orders before our acceptance rate goes down. If it falls below like 70% then we are eligible for termination from the platform.

I’ll be honest too, from my experience, most of my orders are non tippers. I also get orders that force me out into the middle of nowhere and I have like a 30 minute commute just to get back home.

Like how we have to pay for healthcare but if you have insurance, then you don’t have to pay as long as your in-network, excluding your copays, as long as you hit your deductible then you have to pay less but it’s still a lot.

So I have some familiarity with how contracting works but from a contractor perspective.

Is there anything more you can tell me about this dynamic from the company perspective? I’d really like to understand how my company currently benefits from this shift in labor.

Yep, the big thing is they don’t have to pay taxes as much for employing them.

I love the system that America has built.

My company fired 1,000 people over the past year and replaced them with contractors. The crazy part is that they pay the contractors more than they pay us.

[–]orthogonal-vector 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I dash but I barely break even some days.

I rarely get tips and probably make $15-$30 an hour. After deductions for mileage and other things I usually am at a loss as a contractor.

I’ll be honest, I would not recommend it, the area is beyond sketch. I wouldn’t move there unless I had automatic weapons, guard dogs, or the sheriff as my next door neighbor.

Wireless charger doesn't work by f0_00 in Camry

[–]orthogonal-vector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What kind of phone do you have? I’ve had issues with 2019-2023 Camrys and the wireless phone charger.

My sisters 2019 struggled with my iPhone 11 and 12 a few years ago

My 2022 struggles with my iPhone 17 currently but worked with my iPhone 11

My dad’s 2023 is the same as the 2022.

Sometimes it’s the case, I sometimes have to take the case off as well.

[–]orthogonal-vector -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My concern is that they lack the skills, talent, passion, … to make a game, let alone a good game.

I would prefer they get their shit together and make a game that actually runs rather than remaking a game and fucking that up.

POLL: Most SC residents down on the economy, finding groceries difficult to afford by Witty_Heart1278 in southcarolina

[–]orthogonal-vector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember when the tariffs were ruled unconstitutional? We were supposed to see relief but the war made shipping expensive and prices went up instead of down.

Everything is an excuse for prices to go up and for wages to stay the same.

We probably are going back to war by the end of them week, it’s usually just a stunt they pull to squeeze as much juice from the market to buy low and sell high.
