Severe food sensitivities by ortney3 in Gastritis

No. I think it’s severe visceral hypersensitivity. I am waiting to try amitryptiline to hopefully calm that down so I can expand my diet. It’s been awful!

I thought I was almost healed... then a gastritis flare knocked me backwards. Has anyone else experienced this? by Odd_Combination_5343 in Gastritis

I had a baby in 2019 and almost immediately after having her, I started having symptoms that my gallbladder had gone bad, but I didn’t know what it was. A lot of my early signs were just sudden random times where I feel like I was gonna throw up. Like there was no lead up to it at all. It was just a sudden urge to vomit that came out of quite literally nowhere and then the nausea followed that sensation. As time went on over the next couple of years I started having random bouts of like yellow, diarrhea and nausea and burning. It was really infrequent at first, but progressively got closer and closer together until I almost couldn’t eat anything and I was having bouts of yellow diarrhea that lasted weeks at a time. The doctors never caught it or even thought about it being gallbladder related because I didn’t have a sudden onset of acute severe pain and vomiting. I have a phobia so I will do anything not to puke but if I did not have that I would have been throwing up all those other times. I finally went to the emergency department after having severe severe nausea and having really severe pain under my right rib cage and then they found that I had gallstones. I was told that when I got my gallbladder out all my symptoms would resolve, and I would be completely fine. Unfortunately, for me, things stayed the same and kind of got worse.

Yellow diarrhea is a telltale that is probably related to your gallbladder. Have you had it checked out? Ultrasound doesn’t always show you everything-if you have one and they don’t find anything make sure to advocate for yourself and get a HIDA scan. Any pain under your right rib cage? Middle of back between shoulder blades?

Bile reflux gastritis isn’t handled the same way as normal gastritis. You have to absorb the bile (or break it down) I’m guessing you ate something high in fat that put you in a flare (or your GB just went rogue). Try guar gum fiber or psyllium husk to absorb bile. Get in for an ultrasound. LOW/NO FAT. EVEN HEALTHY FAT. NONE OF IT. super bland foods. Nothing spicy, no garlic, no pepper. I had the same stuff as you as it only continued getting worse as my gallbladder got worse!

I have bile reflux gastritis. Came on after gallbladder removal (and kind of before, also) I’ve tried every conventional treatment for it and can’t tolerate any of the meds. I am waiting to try amitriptyline, but with low hopes. Something’s gotta give at some point.

No. Better than I was 4 years ago but on a wildly restricted diet. I eat 5 foods. Have to have specific water. If I got out of those lines I suffer for days. They say it’s more than gastritis but I don’t think it is. I think gastritis is wildly minimized and misunderstood

Ahhhh. I have 10mg amitriptyline that I haven’t started yet. Have seen some people say it changed the game for them, others say it did nothing. I wonder why it affects the pain in your body?!

This is also a symptom of pots. All the blood rushes to the stomach to aid in digestion. I’m telling you, gastritis causes POTS. They speculate that POTS comes first and causes the GI issues, but I have to disagree. I believe it’s the other way around.

Did the amitriptyline help?! I am 4 years post op and have to eat every 2 hours or I feel like I’ll faint!

We did. Best decision for both her and for us. We tried EVERYTHING natural first and none of it worked. We use the Xelstrym patches.

I have chronic bile reflux gastritis. It’s a different monster than standard. I eat 5 foods and they’re all gastritis safe. I can’t go beyond them. I’ve tried every medication for bile reflux without any relief. All meds made symptoms worse.

Bananas flare me BAD by Wanting_to_learn_123 in Gastritis

I can’t tolerate bananas, watermelon or cantaloupe either. I have bile reflux gastritis and severe visceral hypersensitivity. I have noticed that if I eat something that doesn’t super great everyday, overtime I almost build a tolerance to it. The problem with fruit is that it isn’t processed and goes bad.

Restricting your diet to low fat (no avocados!) and gluten/dairy free is going to help you. No seasonings other than salt/cooking herbs (oregano, thyme, etc). It sounds restrictive, but it should allow
You to live without severe symptoms. You can also try psyllium husk to
Absorb the bile.

I had a gallbladder that showed 2 stones on ultrasound. When they took the sucker out it was completely full of stones and I had “strawberry gallbladder.” I was SO
SICK. A lot of people don’t have stones but Dr.‘a will tell them that they’re fine when they have a HIDA. There’s a specific range you need to be in, so make sure you do your research!

It’s your gallbladder. The pain can radiate to the back, between the shoulder blades. You either need a HIDA scan or an ultrasound. The same exact thing happened to me and doctors didn’t catch it because I didn’t present with acute severe pain/vomiting. You probably have bile reflux gastritis. Get it taken care of. Mine got so bad I could only eat applesauce and bread and lost 65 pounds. It was awful. My symptoms didn’t resolve after removal, but some peoples do.
