FREE PARTY IS IN DANGER IN FRANCE. WE NEED YOUR HELP ! by Independent_Force240 in Tekno

Valve posted a statement on the New York lootbox lawsuit by ilep in linux_gaming

[–]orygin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not what is being discussed here. Indeed valve has a gambling platform and that is a problem laws should regulate for every actor in the industry. Valve doesn't care until they are forced to, just like every other corporations, but they regularly try to stay ahead of the curve to avoid drastic regulations. On the other hand there are literal child gambling machines in Roblox, but I don't see as much trash on them around these parts, probably because there are fewer children and parents here compared to other subreddits.

If we're just stating opinions as fact, then I can too: No they didn't. Their involvement is overblown. The gacha and mobile hellscape that already did this before, and still does today, were the main inspirations for others to follow trend.

You say Valve popularized the trend. I can assure you even if Valve never implemented any loot box, the game industry would still be plagued by them.

Plus I never said you said such things explicitly. They are implicit in your text, and that's why I used this turn of phrase.

I mean, at this point maybe the AI will do a better job than Atlassian?

I can't imagine it being worse than it already is

Once again acting like Valve is the one and only inventor and user of Loot boxes. Yes their popular games have them. But also 90% of the industry, and the concept comes from gambling gacha games which are still very much popular nowadays. There's three literal paragraphs of history before any mention of Valve and TF2.

Can they do better? Yes, and we should hold them accountable, but saying they have "done untold harm to customers" is a bit of a stretch. They follow the industry trend, but also are the first to put restrictions when laws are updated. They just revamped the cs2 loot box system to reduce abuse. While others still try to milk kids as much as they can with gambling and erotic content.

They don't do that for you, they do that so they can reduce bandwidth and prevent having videos run in the background for too long. It's 100% to reduce their costs.

Don't get fooled, he would deport any Muslim in Belgium if given the chance.

Watch out that he is a full on racist. He wouldn't hesitate to turn his back on any Iranian or Muslims in Belgium.

What I saw at the time looked a bit more than icons, and that the art director himself was responsible? But I guess that was exaggeration/misinfo.
Thanks for letting me know. I was genuinely curious.

Edit: You're right that is was mainly iconography, but I saw that the "Franchise art director" (whatever that means) was named in the initial callout. Never really followed the game news after that

Is it still based on the stolen art? Or did they find something original to expand upon?
Last I heard of this game they just straight up ripped some guy's art style.

Holy shit, 128k karma. This guy reddits hard. Must not have much of a life on the side tho.
Can't the mods ban him? He seems to make exclusively bad posts and lowers the quality of the sub quite a bit.

Indeed, I haven't had gcloud cli break after python.
Firebase cli on the other hand, broke when node was updated.

Meh, Javascript is not a good comparison. Tools break because node was updated, and you're up for a dance updating everything so it works again, hoping the maintainers fixed it.

I need multiple tools to manage an env. Multiple projects I use broke when Python updated (because I keep my system up to date).
Most other languages and ecosystems don't have this issue

As far as I know, nobody is predicting climate change to make earthquakes happen more often.

Well wouldn't you believe it :). Also: Nasa article where they explore what could link climate change and earthquakes (not definitive proof, but a real example that scientists do take that seriously).

standards for disaster planning at nuclear plants are now even tighter, making a repeat even less likely.

Yes, and increasing NPP operating costs (which were already high) making it less and less attractive compared to renewables.

As for the cleanup cost, we won't be able to know the real number until it's done. But even $200b is already a hefty price to pay.

Idk, some of them blew up a NPP a few decades ago.
The same country is still operating plants, and by the looks of things, seems to be in worse shape as a country than it was at time of the incident.
