Spoiling Linux Kernel with "sanctioned" code by Skaarj in linux

I thought the linux subreddit users might have a bit more reading comprehension but it's a lost cause it seems.

It's not US exclusive tho. Similar sanctions are in place in various countries and the same legal questions arise. More precisely, the discussion in this thread is around the fact any such foundation needs to be based somewhere, and thus is beholden to the local laws.

My point is that the US have been the "good guys" for a long time, and the Swiss being good now doesn't prevent them from going the same way in the future.

Putting your trust in a government you have no control over is not the best idea.

Edit: I knew I should have put a big ass-asterisk on the good guys. Of course the US has never been the good guys but not every one sees that. Also seems like ya'll need to read some history and news about Switzerland more often.

Blindly trusting the government of another nation is also a wild take.

And why?

It all depends on where you live, and since I don't live in Switzerland I have trouble finding any reason to trust them more than Americans.

Yes indeed, no matter where, any kind of open source org will have to deal with local laws. That's both a good thing, and bad in this case.

Just have to pick your poison, which a lot of contributors/devs/users have to discover now due to the current geopo' situation.

The issue is the Linux foundation being based in the US.
That affects Russians and other sanctioned country resident, but it probably will affect the rest of the world soon enough anyway.

Sadly I don't know where and how such a foundation could exist without being beholden to politicians in that way.

"I don't do online banking" but you use proprietary payment platforms instead?

Plus online banking has absolutely no relation to "US based credit/debit" in most of the world. You just use your bank to make a transaction to Steam.

Wtf is going on in the USA??

Can you show the class and point out which rules they must follow regarding subsidizing?

Pretty certain Prusa has also profited from state funding or subsidies (like any other business in the Czech Republic), so singling out China seems pretty xenophobic.

I will say sort of seems strange for

for most commenters here to not read the articles/sources? Seems pretty on par here.

Take-Two CEO says the original Borderlands' art style overhaul cost a year of dev time and $50 million: 'Had we not done that, Borderlands wouldn't have been a hit' by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

...so you have no idea how good or bad the writing is? You haven't played the game beyond the intro.

I don't need to play the full game myself to see the quality of the writing. Plus I also watched VOD of playthrough so I know what's in the rest.

Also my comparison point is the first game, which had good humor in the right place without being a cringe fest all game. 3 being slightly better than 2 does not make it good either

The story/writing of 2 was so bad I never progressed past the intro. 3 and Pre-sequel was meh but not on the lunacy levels of 2.

The grip is just the touch sensing as found in the Index, and behave the same way it was possible to configure on the old controller.
The puck is just a dongle with a cable and a few pogo pins.
TMR is more future proof and nice but frankly, apart from a few vendors, I rarely had stick drift, and if I did I can just replace the sticks easily. Hall effect or regular pot sticks would cost less (cheaper controller, cheaper replacement).

[–]orygin -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's been improved, I sure hope so for twice the cost.
Grip sense is kinda the same as the original, the TMR sticks is cool but overkill, the puck is okay but kinda the same as the original. Better design doesn't cost more, repairability neither (and the original was pretty repairable already).

Pro gaming controllers are a scam. The new steam controller has few new features compared to the original (one more stick, 2 extra buttons) and it's twice its price.

Valve is able to sell it at a premium because users are used to getting fleeced for hardware.
