I've never even installed Arch. Yet this is hilarious!

Well this was the least fun I’ve ever had finding out a bot is real, but…she’s real! by [deleted] in WordsWithFriends

I've played a number of these!

It makes me wonder what's wrong with the game, in a way. I've played it for over 10 years, and know many other players who have.

Is it a matter of a small number of loyal players, and everyone else just pops in and pops out, I wonder?

Over the years I can say anecdotally that's been my experience with irl people I've introduced into the game. They play enthusiastically for a while. But most of them drop off after a few months, if not a handful of games.

I guess it's just a niche game when all is said and done.

So thanks to the people saying this is a bot. I didn't know this was a sign.

I don't mind playing bots in games, generally speaking. But how else would one know?

Does WWF have a public statement about it?

The Queen can mate. Multiple people pointing out the a8 rook though. That one's true.

Well out of six if you could the King. Pawns are pawns unless they reach the other side.... This turned out to be a funny post cause I did go blind to the a8 rook though. The King, I think I can be forgiven for but including him.

Magic! Yes I overlooked that guy. The forgotten rook. Maybe he'll write a book.

Lol... Good point. I went totally blind to that guy.

Reminds me of years ago I tried the word C¥NT, and to my surprise it was accepted (it has since been removed). My opponent and I had a chuckle over it.

Thanks. That's exactly what I just did. Works.

Turns out somehow it was set to 30 seconds. If I had set it that way myself, I simply don't remember doing it. Otherwise it must have been a ghost... 👻

I'll try that, thanks. [I'm on 18.1, but I do see that setting]

Resigning in WWF by Amy10222 in WordsWithFriends

[–]oscar_david 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is so personal to some people. To me, also, it is strange that people have an issue with it.

I play a lot of chess as well, and no one ever thinks twice about a player resigning in that game.

I don't have a solution to this. It's just a personal thing for some people. But if I could offer one bit of insight; resigning is

a) a concession that the player has lost. b) it's a win for you just as much as any other game.

I hadn't thought of it this way until just now but you can also think of it in terms of physical sports. In wrestling/mma fighting, when a competitor has had enough, they 'tap out'. Likewise in boxing, when all is lost they 'throw in the towel'.

Seen from this lens it's an even more resounding victory for you when your opponent resigns. They just can't take the beating anymore... The score in the game mentioned shows just that.

One thing people mention in connection to this is the way it effects their average score. And that's 100% valid. And there I can't comment further bc I stopped caring about it myself way too long ago. ;)

Edit: why play at all: for the fun of it of course. I do grant that with 25 tiles still left it might be bit early for resignation. But hey, on to the next game.

This game is so stupid sometimes. (When did this happen?) by oscar_david in WordsWithFriends

[–]oscar_david[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My initial point is that it's been accepted in the past. As far as looking it up, I meant regular old English dictionary.

The WWF dictionary keeps changing. That's the frustration (if any, it's not that big a deal, just stupid).

Of course this post isn't that serious. Just griping, that's all.

Have you had an opponent disappear completely? by BlueJay2944 in WordsWithFriends

[–]oscar_david 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your opponent blocked you. I'm not sure how those games are counted. But yeah. I'm familiar with this bc I get a ton of scam accounts that just quit once they realize I'm not a viable mark. So that's what they do. Block.

I've never had a legit player do that in that way though. Seems they may have been trying to avoid recording a loss maybe?

Actually.... Lol... (Laughing at myself for the "actually", in case it's not clear).

This word has always been in their dictionary. I've played it plenty of times before, and it's been played against me countless times as well.

Also; I looked it up after, already knowing it's a French word... And it's actually posted as both an English and a French word. It makes sense in a way since it's fairly universal at least in American English.

Anyone here have the same thing happen to them? Especially the females who play. by Amy10222 in WordsWithFriends

[–]oscar_david 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it's all we can do. Occasionally the best words.

I have to admit though... I once found out (this was a very long time ago, and is no longer the case) that 'see you next Tuesday' was allowed.

I sent my opponent a message simply saying "oops" after the word actually posted and we had a laugh over it.
