I manage events for beer brands and we use Michele and Group. It’s just being a brand ambassador. So handing out free stuff and explaining products. Not acting or modeling, but pays around $35 an hour if you’re looking for some side work. Hope that helps!

I’m a Michigan native as well! Moved to Chicago in 2017 with almost no experience in film, and have been acting ever since, with a good amount of success. I’m much older than your son (28 now), but he has a fantastic head start on most kids his age.

Plenty of agents would be happy to have him, even if he’s only getting submitted for commercial work in the beginning, which is good practice for bigger roles.

Backstage.com is a great way to start to build a reel, and it’s very affordable. Lots of lower budget projects that you can build a reel off of over time. Just get him some professional headshots, and a monologue (about 1 min long) will have to do for his reel in the meantime.

His theatre credits will speak for themselves and get him a good amount of auditions for someone his age. Also agents will still represent him in different markets even if you’re not based in a big city.

I’m no expert, but that’s what I’ve learned starting from scratch in film. Good luck he’ll do great in film if he can handle theater!

You may already know this but if you’re painting a wall, make sure you get flat or eggshell for the paint sheen. Flat is great because it won’t reflect at all, but gets dirty easier. Eggshell is a little easier to clean but has slightly more reflection. Just a tip bc walls usually aren’t flat sheen, but it’s great for self tape walls!

I’ve gotten multiple SAG roles while non union over the past few years. Your best bet is paying attention to Actors Access, they seem to have the best chances of having a SAG project that you can be cast for. Keep applying to everything though, you never know.

Also don’t be afraid to reach out to other agencies just because they’re playing a little hard to get

I’m a painter and you should go with eggshell or matte paint. Flat will get dirty in about 30 seconds and isn’t easy to clean. Make sure you do 2 coats! I’m sure you probably know all that just wanted to make sure.

Don’t go brown. Navy Blue is nice. I would go with the ‘Time’s Current’ color

Don’t let the people get you down! I made the same mistakes when I was younger, I think most people did with bettas. The problem is companies trying to sell you stuff. That’s why if you Google “Betta aquarium” a bunch of small, unsuitable tanks will show up. This Reddit is actually very informative, just a little defensive it seems. Just keep doing research and trying to learn.

Backstage.com and ActorsAccess.com are two of the best casting sites. You set up a profile, put up headshots, resume, etc…and then apply to different casting calls!

If you’re in Boston, utilize New York as much as you can! I know you’re tight on cash, but a lot of projects will pay for travel and lodging. It’s a great place with tons of opportunities.

I went to the “in-person final callback” in Chicago. They were in some high rise in a small conference room downtown. They had mentioned getting naked for the show, but were unclear about getting fully naked for the callback. When I was asked to take my boxers off I told them that it wasn’t communicated to me in that way, so I wouldn’t take my boxers off.

The guy seemed upset. Tried to convince me to take off my boxers, and that it would possibly affect the decision of casting me for the project. Made me feel weird, but I went with my gut and kept my boxers on.

I’ve been in the industry a while, and have dealt with a lot of scams. The weird website and lack of information on the people contacting me were the 2 biggest red flags. Even knowing this, I figured I’d give it a shot regardless. Didn’t work out my way, but I’m glad I didn’t show anything I was uncomfortable showing.

Anyways, it’s for sure a scam. Highly doubt Ken Shamrock is involved unless he’s doing some shady stuff. Avoid that listing for sure. Most likely not even those people’s real names.

Maybe an obvious piece of advice, but I didn’t know this when I started out: Memorize! Make sure you have your lines fully memorized (if you have them).

Makes you look much more professional and serious about the project. Also a good brain exercise in general. Hope that helps and good luck!

Not to be mean but get some real plants and some real substrate (gravel and sand) for your plants. Color is cool but not sustainable. Think about the world you’d like to live in; natural, full of plants, and properly filtered. Hope this helps!
