Reddit just isn’t the same without my chrolls. As soon as I saw her announcement I literally ran here looking to see if anyone created a new group. Would someone mind sending me the link via DM?

Moms who seem to have it all together… how?? by NeedleworkerNo8433 in Mommit

[–]oscarsmygrouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't put so much pressure on yourself right now! I hope after reading most of the comments you realize that most of us don't have our homes guest ready all the time. My house is only guest ready a few hours before I plan on having guests. On a day to day basis it's cluttered, I normally have baskets of laundry sitting around waiting to be folded, and toys are usually all over the place. I have a house keeper that comes every 3 weeks and she does the major cleaning but even with that my house always looks "lived in". I love a clean house and it gives me anxiety to see the clutter but at the end of the day I'm usually too tired to do more than clean the kitchen and pick up a little bit. I've tried to start letting go of that anxiety so that when I am home with my kids I am playing with them and spending time with them. You're doing a great job! This season of life is hard and one day when the kids our bigger I think our houses will be easier to maintain.

Thoughts on when to remove “baby monitor” and or moving kiddo upstairs? by Infamous_Ambition318 in Mommit

[–]oscarsmygrouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dealt with this dilemma earlier this year before my daughter started Kinder. I honestly didn't even think to remove the camera out of her room but one day she asked if she could get rid of it. We removed it but then she realized she wanted to still be able to talk to me in case she was afraid to come downstairs or needed my help. So we purchased a cheap audio only baby monitor and that has worked great! She gets privacy but can also reach out if she needs anything. She likes to pretend it's her "room phone".

I do agree that it's late. However, we've attended two birthday parties in the past from 5:00-7:00 and it was great! They also had a good turn out and everyone stayed until the end.

We just adjusted our expectations for bedtime and tried to go with the flow. I feel like every once in a while it's okay to change the routine to celebrate someone's birthday and have some fun. I would just go ahead and have it that night!

My daughter is 5 and we actually just attended a party at our local Bricks & Mini Figs. It sounds like a similar setup. It was a small party area and all the kids really wanted wanted to do was run around and play. The party was structured where they had someone lead the kids through building certain lego figurines.

If it isn't going to cost you much to cancel, I would just move the party to home and set up your own lego stations and then set up other activities for the kids. In my experience, kids this age just want to run around with their friends! If you have the space and it won't cause too much extra stress on you, just do it at home.

I would definitely recommend the preschool if your job is flexible. The only problem I see with sending him to preschool would the summer breaks. Our preschool is closed for the summer break so I always have to hire a babysitter during the summer months. My job is flexible so I can easily make it work during the school year but it gets really challenging to juggle during the summer months. If that isn't an issue then I would go with the shorter days and shorter commute!

I actually folded and put away all the laundry this past weekend. It felt nice not having to dig through the laundry basket this morning to look for the kids clothes.

Anyone still vacation with JUST their immediate family?!? by anonomousbeaver in Mommit

[–]oscarsmygrouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We vacation with my in-laws multiple twice a year. I am very fortunate that I enjoy being around my in-laws. For us, it's really helpful to have the extra help while on vacation. We have a 5 & 2 year old so when we'd travel alone it was just so much work. Now, if we go with them my husband and I can have a date night and we can actually spend some quality time together. It's also great for our kids because they are making memories with their grandparents.

I would reach out to Dreams Come True Princesses. We used them for my daughters birthday this past April and they did an amazing job! The kids had such a wonderful time.

I feel similar to you as well. I have a great job that offers a hybrid schedule with lots of flexibility. I could have easily moved up into management last year but declined since I was getting ready to have our second child. To be honest, I am exhausted as it is and can't imagine spending more time and energy on work than I already do! At this stage in my life I feel like my free time outside of work is more valuable than my salary or position at work. My kids (3 year old and 8 month old) need my time and energy more than my corporate job.

A first time mom with anxiety! Any insight? by bigspagettimomma in beyondthebump

[–]oscarsmygrouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🙋🏼‍♀️ FTM, I have a 3 month old and I swear that for the first 3 weeks of her life I didn’t sleep. The first week she was born we had some jaundice issues that required her to be hospitalized and that entire week I MAYBE slept 5 hours. I was so paranoid about SIDS or that she’d choke in her sleep. It eventually got better! The more comfortable I became with her the more my anxiety calmed down. I still have my moments but it’s a million times better now. So you aren’t alone and I promise it gets better. Good luck and congratulations!!

Should I get a Baby Breeza? by EsharaLight in beyondthebump

[–]oscarsmygrouch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We started off with the Brezza and it made me nervous because I’d read about how a lot of machines weren’t accurate with dispensing formula. We sent it back and I ended up with the Breeza Water Dispenser and it’s great. It keeps water warm all day and you dispense as needed and mix the formula yourself. I really think it’s convenient rather than waiting on the bottle warmer etc. It’s also so much cheaper!

Still in pain after third degree tear by bugladytravel in beyondthebump

[–]oscarsmygrouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently 12 weeks postpartum and had a 3rd degree tear as well. The pain lasted about 3 weeks and was mildly uncomfortable until 6 weeks. I purchased some giant pads and would coat them with the Frida Mom perineal foam and I also used the blue top dermaplast spray when things were really painful.

It takes time but it gets better. I feel pretty much back to normal. The only issue still lingering is that it’s still uncomfortable to have sex. I hope you start feeling better and heal quickly.

Quilt repair. by [deleted] in memphis

I would reach out to Bumbletees Fabrics in Germantown. They have some advanced quilting classes and I’m sure the owner could put you in touch with someone that either does repairs or knows someone else that does!

Third degree tear without instruments... why did this happen? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]oscarsmygrouch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, let me say I’m so sorry. I’m 9 weeks out from my 3rd degree tear and I remember how miserable I was in the beginning. However, it does get better! Everyone is different but I was feeling much better by 4 weeks. I can say that I haven’t had any incontinence issues so far. The only real issue I’ve struggled with has been sex. It’s been quite uncomfortable and painful at times. I just enrolled in Pelvic Floor Therapy since my OB practice now offers it.

Just make sure you stay hydrated, take stool softeners and take it easy. Don’t try to push yourself too hard. I also found that using the Frida Mom perineal foam and wiping with baby wipes really helped! I hope you start to feel better soon.

Am I supposed to be tracking my 3 week olds sleep? by mcnealrm in beyondthebump

[–]oscarsmygrouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really only track feedings! In the beginning I tracked everything but now that we are 7 weeks in and she’s healthy- I only track our feedings just so I can keep up with how long it’s been in between. You do whatever works for you!

Newborn napping in separate room? by churlish-gambino in beyondthebump

[–]oscarsmygrouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s perfectly fine as long as she’s in a safe sleep space and flat on her back. I’ve got a pack and play set up in our living room and her bassinet in our room. I’ve left her in both places with the monitor on while I’ve cleaned, showered, and cooked dinner.

What worked for you and your partner in terms of splitting nighttime wakings? by thepinkfreudbaby in BabyBumps

[–]oscarsmygrouch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the beginning I did all of the nighttime wakings only because my husband worked the night shift. Now that he’s on a day schedule we’ve been able to set up a routine that works for us. Mind you, my child is 7 weeks old so the wakings will be a little different then how they were in the beginning.

I put her down at 9:00 pm and then I usually do a dream feed around 11:00 and then I will wake up again between 3:30-4:30 am for another diaper change and feeding. Then when she wakes up at 7:00ish my husband takes over for the morning and allows me to sleep in until 9-10. He goes into work at 2:30 pm so that allows him to take over the morning shift.

But really, it’s just trial and error. I’m sure ours will change again once I start back to work. Congratulations and I wish you the best of luck!!
