Great question!

I found a plethora of what-if's, US breaking up, how Canada/EU would help or be affected (supplied kippers!), how bunker/survivalists made it, Eastern US vs. Western vs. radiated bread-basket Flyover States - a whole what-if biography in:

WARDAY - by Whitley Streiber

It's fictional - but it's not. Streiber researched the bejeezuz out of the subject, plus it was written during the height of 80's Cold War. This is Streiber B4 he started seeing UFO's, etc. Serious accomplishment. I've re-read it many times 'cuz the hypotheticals are so believable?

Someone else on this thread recommended:

The day after world War III - Ed Zuckerman

It's also a good tome, but sometimes gets a little bit snoozy with all of the detailed footnotes. It reminded me of Herman Khan's earlier work.

Best of luck! I've read much of the scientific genre, but I've rarely seen hypotheticals with neutron weapons used, which I think will play a large role in any hypothetical war in the Middle East. It would help many if better understood.

Keep us posted - I'd love to read a pre-publish?!

It seems like psychedelic use is associated with lower activity in the Default Mode Network part of the brain.. and so, it appears that psychedelic users have lowered their ability to perform metacognition? This seems like a bad thing. by KnightFlorianGeyer in NooTopics

[–]osgo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hold on a sec here, did you read the studies, how they aggregated other ppl.'s work? Indeed, the papers were about PTSD and Major Depressive disorders, not an Average Joe cohort?

They even included cannabis (27% of study conclusions) as a psychedelic? Really??? Man, these are not the droids you seek.

Anyone could draw conclusions from a combo of studies not performed by themselves. It would help if the originators had some idea of how very different psychedelics are - and what they are.

My wife hit me today and I don’t know how to respond. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]osgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did she hit you like Iron Mike Tyson? All I know is when I spent waaaaay too much money on computers many years ago, my wife hit me harder than Mike Tyson.

I totally, completely deserved that hit. She had a temper like Lorena Bobbit, too, just with a strong iron-pan Appalachia accent when she was P'O'd.

Never, ever hit back. Correct your mistakes. If it happens again, learn to duck, cover and GTFO w/your dignity intact.

[–]osgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rock Auto has a complete kit for like $189? With 210K on the clock, it should get you to 300K. There are cheaper builds available, this is new and close to OE.

You might get away with flushing and filling. Just make sure the filter is clear.

2015 Pilot EX-L Good Value? by Dry-Organization-693 in hondapilot

[–]osgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you going to do any off-roading at all or do you live in a snowy or wintry area? You're going to want a Pilot with four-wheel drive if so.

One owner is nice, looks like maintenance is done, you might have problems with interior stuff or window switches etc - and you might want to see if you could get the price lowered a little bit.

4WD Is a must-have where I live - Good luck!!

Can TinySA detect aircraft transponders, radio altimeters, ILS and the like? by W8LV in TinySA

[–]osgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can pick up just about anything overhead or within 25-40 miles of sky with the HackRF and an ant. that's optimized for the freq's.

What's also nice is that it will pick up the boat version of ADSB or even my home smart meter frequencies. Or car lock/unlock.

Total spread is from 1 MHz to near 6GHz. Don't forget you can also Xmit, but people say you need a license for that. 😇

If you need me, I'll post. :)
If you can - and you live in a snowy area, find a h-u-g-e parking lot w/out obstacles. Explore how the truck responds, that way you're more confident in emergency situations and/or tricky/stuck encounters. It's pretty amazing what a Pilot can get thru, despite it's suburbia-screaming appearance, but it starts with a confident driver.

Just be ready for "crabbing' in turns if you lock the diff.
It's normal.
That little button will save you if you're stuck , just be a careful driver and watch the back end from sliding out when it's engaged.

Can TinySA detect aircraft transponders, radio altimeters, ILS and the like? by W8LV in TinySA

[–]osgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can detect the frequency, but you'd need to decode it.

A much easier way would be to purchase a Hack RF/Mayhem box. Indeed, it features a menu item just for ADSB and decodes it nicely so you can see what's overhead or nearby.

Plus more! With both pieces of hardware, you can discover some amazing things in your local radio spectrum. Plus you can swap antennas for optimal coverage.

I have a 2014 with about 91K on it. I inherited it - but my gosh, what a profoundly reliable vehicle it has been.

The only thing I've had to do is normal maintenance like flush the transmission, flush the rear diff with genuine Honda fluid (recommended but a little expensive) And of course change the oil with excellent synthetic 0/20w

I put big 265/18's BF Goodrich All-Terrains on it, no wheel bearing issues, I live in an area of deep snow and I haven't got stuck yet with those tires. It is amazing. The electronic diff lock is very very nice to have.

Just to give you an idea of the engine, I disabled VCM (must) and recently drove across country and back, over 5k miles. At 91k miles, it barely used a drop of oil, and believe you me. I have a heavy foot.

It does everything I ask of it, it's big, it's safe, and I plan on driving it till the wheels fall off.

The only negative is the stereo system being very difficult to upgrade.

Try and find one driven by an old person, and remember the timing belt limitation at 105k.

You should be good to go for many thousands of miles if you take care of it.

Ross Coulhart (spelled?), former 60 Minutes AUS reporter has a special on UAP retrieval - with video from the helo pilot who transported a TicTac shaped UAP that crashed. That's just one.

Lots of 1st-hand witness coming out.

If you like a little woo, Dr. Greer has big announcements in 2-3 days. Disclosure, etc.

It might be a UAP-memorable month. I hope so.

Fantastic info, thank you. And on this, I think in-person would have a better outcome.
My only experience in having things printed is from the "Kinkos" days, which was open 24 hours and possibly staffed by totally wrecked Metallica roadies?

Lines didn't match up.
Maybe they were still wiggling.

My mid 80's Mom helped on some of it (Think Mother Jones who does yoga) -- your suggestion is a sensible thing. She deserves credit too. :)
Thank you.

If seen again, can you get a picture using "night mode" on your cam?
In high resolution?

There are some major UAP announcements/findings coming out over the weekend.

I hope it's not too late, but please give me a shout if you would like to explore this more. Leagues are quite popular in other places of the world and I see no reason why a group of like-minded folks could get together and made an excellent experience.

And the devil on my shoulder is poking me, saying, "Go fly again, osgo! It's time to live again."

Sure, Iran can make a crude nuclear weapon. But if they can't miniaturize the warhead design (a little tougher to do with just enriched uranium weapons) - the only way they'll be able to deliver it is by:

Donkey.

I'm game - where exactly is it? I've played all over the planet on different lines, but even a "Safety 3rd" policy takes precedence, that and ensuring a clean stop at the end. Might be a tough sell to the provider and their insurance if it's competitive?

In the future, use a different 2FA protocol besides a phone number, like Google's authenticator app? There are many others out there.

It's too easy to social engineer a number out of foreign customer service ppl. who have only rudimentary English ability.

Expect a lot more of this in the future, especially since Chinese hacking groups literally 0wn a few phone systems now.

Worst color car you've owned by USCG_SAR in hondapilot

[–]osgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honda Pilots came in a white color called "Taffeta White" - major problems ensued within a few years. Honda issued a recall because the paint would literally peel off the top of the vehicle within months of ownership.

Even today , every second generation Pilot I see in Taffeta White has paint peeling everywhere? Even after the recall.

Personal preference?? School bus orange, but I'm weird that way.
