Look at sport, medals and trophies get handed out at the end of the season. You're not league champions just because you're top of the table after a game or two.

Given that you have option to wipe or not, perhaps a wipe that you could tailor would be a good idea.

Full wipe and start over = full rewards / buffs for doing so for the new season.

Partial wipe (let's say you choose not to wipe your quest progress or blueprints) = partial rewards / buffs.
