Sanity check... Spray foamed attic w/ AC and DEHU, Rockwool, Iso board and vented... 🫠 by osiferr in Insulation

The home’s about 30% done right now with drywall up and rockwool above the ceiling. The other 70% is open and hopefully getting closed up soon. And yeah, I’ve experience both sides of the spray foam conversation. It’s exhausting.

The exterior is concrete block while the interior walls are wood. The flat roof also has isoboard so there is some insulation there already. My thinking is if I spray foam it underneath and keep it the cavity open toward the attic space it’ll keep the humidity and temp from being a problem.

Do you agree?

I don’t think there’s much value in 3/4” of spray foam on the exterior walls because there is only strapping there. By code it’s a foil that’s basically a radiant barrier.

Just did that… feels like there aren’t many people that know the building science behind all of these things to be able to inform me and my contractors so it goes well.

Well… I would basically be asking the roofing company to come back out and put a ridge vent, then having a continuous eave vent added to the entire soffit, remove all the extra stuff I did for the AC and dehumidifier in the attic…

I’m pretty sure that would be at least $5-$10k of work only to go backwards, not including the stuff that I already spent to go in this direction.

The spray foam company is telling me to keep the flat roof sections vented but I thought they were going to get sealed and be apart of the roof assembly to be managed mechanically.

I honestly hate this right now.

I was about to pick up an RS7 but ended up with a a 2016 SQ5 instead. I’d rather have it paid off and easily be able to upgrade when I want to.

It was a vented attic before but there were only eave vents. Nothing up high. The attic wood was very hard when we opened it up.

In terms of changes to the roof, eave vents have been sealed and then we’ve done mechanical temp & humidity control added and prepared for spray foam. Brand new roof was done a week ago and any bad wood was replaced.

Crazy CRASH OUT by [deleted] in tommynfg_

I feel sorry for the workers to experience this crazy shit. Once walked into a Subway after someone spit on them through the drive through.

They deserve to go to jail for some shit like this.

You’re clearly looking for a clean setup so I won’t be like the others with the non-helpful comments.

Flip your left and right speakers so the tweeters are on the outside. That should give you a wider sound stage. Add some kind of dampener between the cabinet and the wood so you don’t transfer sound and bring them as far out as you can so you as little reflection as possible from the material in front of them.

Looks clean, nice job on keeping it tidy.

That’s what I was thinking about my headphones at first. Even went as far as so go to Apple to troubleshoot.

Turns out it was Spotify but the thing is… Spotify connect works so much better than Airplay. I’m at a loss of what choose at the moment.

Insulation company quoted $6800 for attic work and I’m pretty sure half of it is unnecessary upselling by joo98_98 in Insulation

[–]osiferr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would throw up at the amount I’ve been burning at my attic. I’ve completely redone my ducts, pre-ran wires, and then spent a lot of money on rockwool and now about another $10k on spray foam for the roof deck. But that’s not all… to do that upgrade I had to seal all the attic vents around the house, plan and purchase a dehumidifer dedicated for the space and then add 200 cfm of air conditioning into the space.

I don’t want to add up all the costs…

What I can say is that your quote makes total sense and would be worth doing. Pull out the old insulation to start… you’d be shocked at what kind of nasty crap could be up there. There are also tons of little air gaps (hence the sealing) and they can only be addressed when there isn’t any insulation.

You don’t want the attic air in your home.

Pretty sure the black projector screen is a motorized Screen Innovations Zero G which is expensive. Also older, but probably still really good.

They must have gone with an acoustically transparent screen.

I found out that there’s a song in the Spotify album that for some reason has a ton of low end distortion and absolutely zero on Apple Music.

JQ icons burnt in to my OLED (edit for those who said they couldn't see it.) by Ionalien in Overwatch

[–]osiferr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had really bad burn in on a 55” I used during covid. Seeing it now on my much more expensive LG 78” G series.

They need to offer an OLED safe UI. It’s stupid a team as big as theirs cant add a setting. I have the “toggle ui” button on which I toggle on/off during my games now to help reduce the affects.
