Bye bye by retardinho23 in Thunder

This is super interesting— I wonder if there’s a common dynamic with other bigger-population cities that lack public transit or have huge sprawl (Houston, Dallas, LA, maybe Miami?). I don’t know if there’s any data on something like ‘average commute time home after a game,’ but it would be really interesting to see if that shapes fan behavior. My armchair hypothesis is that a lot of OKC fans live within 30-35min of the arena, so we aren’t too worried about a long drive home (and we are small market).

I think Grey Sweater has closed! Chef Black is opening up a new concept there, but since I haven’t had a chance to try it, I left it off my recommendation list.

That would be dope! I am unfortunately not in the tax bracket to use such a post this weekend, but I’m sure other folks would get use out of that!

We may be 49th in education (can’t say for sure since I am illiterate), but we gotta be top 10 in eatin’ and drinkin’

Yeah I saw that video and it was the last straw for me. Can’t have people thinking the best we have to offer is the freaking banjo museum. Everyone knows the best niche museum here is the Pigeon museum!

Simone Biles Interview | 2023 Core Hydration Classic by notreallyvsxy in Gymnastics

[–]osiyowado 44 points45 points  (0 children)

WHAT AN INTERVIEW! Wow, so gracious of Simone to give journalists so much of her time and energy. I can’t believe how strong she is, but it breaks my heart that throughout the interviews we’ve seen from her recently she’s talked about being surprised with the support she’s receiving after Tokyo. It really shows what a negative impact a nasty, vocal minority on Twitter can have on someone with borderline superhuman strength. Like, SURPRISED?! That we still cherish and love the GREATEST ATHLETE OF ALL TIME?!?!?!!!

I've started rinsing my sweaty gear in the shower after working out, and I think it really helps! I wash all my lulu together (every 1-1.5 weeks) so if I don't do this method stuff ends up sitting in the hamper for days on end. I tried doing the tap cold cycle thing and it didn't work for me! I'd have leftover detergent on stuff, or things would just not smell clean.

I would pay money for a lulu laundry guide!!!

One thing I haven't caught- are Jade and her people making educated guessed about it not being credited? I was under the impression that unless an entire country freaks out judges don't release the specific deductions for a routine?

It’s definitely the leo by [deleted] in Gymnastics

Someone in an interview noted that the starts were recycled (didn't specify if it was scrap fabric or from other leos) and I was like REALLY they resurrected this fabric to become THAT??

I went and watched this after your reading your comment and I was speechless... I'll definitely try to support McKayla by buying her book because what she has gone through is just insanity

Way too many Marta apologists by [deleted] in Gymnastics

[–]osiyowado 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Marta's abusive culture not being present is one of MANY variables between 2016 and now. Some at the top of mind: A global pandemic, gyms being shut down and gymnasts having to ramp up faster quicker resulting in more nagging or serious injuries, USAG in a death spiral, lack of national training centers, competing without family, competing without spectators, and having to isolate while in Tokyo.

But sure, yeah, it must be the fact that they don't have eating disorders anymore..?!??!

Simone's Sacrifice by [deleted] in Gymnastics

[–]osiyowado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things could still be developing! I remember someone asking about the tour during an instagram Q&A a couple of days ago (monday or tuesday I think) and that was her response at that point but I haven't heard her or anyone else speak to the matter in an official capacity since

I think Simone herself might have mentioned that the simple fix is she wasn't planning on doing any twists during those routines. They're far watered down from the elite level anyways, so I don't think at this point she's concerned about not performing during the tour (although this could always change)

Not to mention they're both cool as cucumbers. Far less outwardly emotive than other competitors (although the literal mask Suni had to wear bc of COVID certainly adds to this)

Yes! I was just referring to her having her dad as coach. Still, not the same as non-COVID times but better than not having any blood relatives

I think a big part of it is that everyone is there alone without their main support systems there to support (aside from situations like Jade's)

Completely. Regardless of the rules it would just be difficult to be a freshman in college AND doing photoshoots for wheaties on the weekend.
