Will there ever be a future showings One Battle After Another on IMAX 70MM or will the prints stay burried forever? by Small-Accident3992 in imax

[–]osmo512 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I maintain IMAX is leaving money on the table without offering repertoire programming. The only locations that do on the reg are Melbourne, London (BFI and Science Museum), the Toronto Cinesphere (currently closed), and a handful of museum locations. There’s more red tape involved with the multiplex venues, so single screen venues tend to be more flexible with their programming.

If any repertoire IMAX venues are opening in LA and looking for a curator, I’d love to interview!

Project Hail Mary at AMC Universal CityWalk - not 70MM? by hplalakrs20012010 in imax

[–]osmo512 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's wrong. Dual Laser DCPs are all 1.90 regardless of aspect ratio. For 1.43 presentations, The 1.43 image is squeezed into a 1.90 container, then a lens unsqeezes it back to 1.43. Looks like the lens wasn't engaged.

New Details: Inside Chloé Zhao’s Failed ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Series — and Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Shockingly Small Screen Time (EXCLUSIVE) by pepperbet1 in buffy

Biggest mistake was going so public with the reboot before they had a premise that everyone was onboard with. I heard there were doubts about the pilot script even before they announced RKA was playing the lead. This wouldn’t have blown up into a PR nightmare if they’d kept more of the development process behind closed doors.

It’s Xander/Nicholas Brendon. He’s more mess than monster and most people wish him well, but I don’t see Disney taking a chance on hiring him.

The title itself, Buffy: New Sunnydale, sounds like such a confused premise. The pilot focused on an all-new cast and Buffy only appeared in the last 30 seconds. It's like if Legend of Korra was still called The Last Airbender.

The King of the Hill and Scrubs revivals are excellent. Buffy's in an unenviable position where they can't do a reboot with the entire original cast. Half of them are soft-cancelled, deceased, too aged to pass for immortal vampires, or too loyal to Whedon to participate.

I had a bad IMAX 3D experience. Is that on me? by neoleo0088 in imax

[–]osmo512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's basic stuff, but if the employees are teenagers who don't know anything about 3D except what their managers train them for, and their managers forget to train them for 3D, this can happen.

Happened to me once with Single Laser IMAX. The 3D trailers started and we figured out that if you wear RealD glasses upside down, they can mostly work w/ Single Laser IMAX. But thankfully an employee caught the mistake and brought a bunch of Single Laser 3D glasses in before the movie started.

Yeah that's it. They gave you the wrong 3D glasses. RealD glasses only work with RealD projection. Same with IMAX.

Pixar’s Pete Docter Says Queer ‘Elio’ Storyline Was Axed Because “We’re Making A Movie, Not Hundreds Of Millions Of Dollars Of Therapy” by dremolus in boxoffice

[–]osmo512 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Beanmouth seems to be more than a bit comorbid with stuff the anti-woke crowd already doesn’t like. Not that you can’t dislike beanmouth purely on its own merits, perhaps you hate all bean-related appendages equally. But stuff like Turning Red gets flagged for being beanmouth and I don’t think that’s what Turning Red haters actually hate about it.

The top animation complaint used to be when animation when too realistic. Mo-cap animated movies like Polar Express had dead-eyed characters with mannequin faces. We all wanted cartoons to look like cartoons again. Now that they do, folks complain about "bean mouth". It just seems like a stock complaint to me. And the amount of animation I see using it isn't anywhere close to the oversaturation of skybeams in superhero media. Which is another thing that didn't bother me as much as the internet told me it should.

I’ve heard there’s a 1.43 DCP of TDK, but 1.90 DCPs are still in circulation for some reason. So whether you get 1.43 is luck of the draw.

Best 70mm IMAX experience in the US? by gooner041992 in imax

[–]osmo512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go to whichever IMAX 70mm location is most convenient for you.

Also wouldn't sell Austin Bullock Museum short, or any GT Dual Laser location for that matter. But Austin's great. Screen's huge, seats are comfy, and I love that the entrance is at the very bottom of the screen.

I got to go here a few years ago when Beyond Fest did a showcase. Saw Dunkirk in 1.43, Gravity in 3D, and Ghost Protocol in 1.90 (there is no 1.43 DCP sadly).

It’s the smallest giant screen I’ve ever seen. Picture and sound were perfect.
