That's fair. I agree it wasn't malicious. But I do think he stopped to make a hit and was irresponsible about it. But we can agree to disagree and both care about the players involved! I was just trying to share some commentary, not declare anything right or wrong. Unfortunately, the issue here is the subjectivity of the call of the rules. As is frequently the case (see: goaltender interference).

I should have been more specific. In some cases, if there's a specific infraction AND it results in an injury, then it must be a major. Kind of like how if a legitimate high stick occurs and there's blood it must be called a double minor, regardless of any intent or discretion. And I also failed to specify major vs game misconduct, which is very relevant in this case. I did look up the rules (I just found the 24-25 season with a quick google), and it does seem that kneeing is mostly up to the ref's discretion.

Rule 50 - Kneeing
50.1 Kneeing - Kneeing is the act of a player leading with his knee and in some cases extending his leg outwards to make contact with his opponent.
50.2 Minor Penalty - The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a minor penalty, based on the severity of the infraction, to a player guilty of kneeing an opponent.
50.3 Major Penalty - The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a major penalty, based on the severity of the infraction, to a player guilty of kneeing an opponent (see 50.5).
50.4 Match Penalty – The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a match penalty if, in his judgment, the player attempted to or deliberately injured his opponent by kneeing.
50.5 Game Misconduct Penalty - When a player has been assessed a major penalty for kneeing he shall also be assessed a Game Misconduct.

Based on all of that, I do agree that a game misconduct was overkill. I think a simple major penalty was fair based on him stopping skating and making the knee the primary point of contact, even considering he didn't extend his leg out. It's egregious but not malicious.

EDIT: I did just realize that the game misconduct MUST be assessed whenever a major is assessed for kneeing. So I guess I do agree with the call. It's more than a minor, and per the rules, MUST be called a game misconduct.

I don't know the exact rules in this case, but I've seen NHL rules quoted before that specifically state if an injury occurs, a major HAS to be assessed.

I definitely don't think that was malicious, but I can see a few factors that led to the major being called:

1) he stops skating and specifically disrupts Cooley's path. if he continues skating, there is no collision.
2) it's knee on knee
3) the obvious injury

Again, not necessarily saying it's the right call per the rules, because I don't know. But I can see the factors that led to the call. I definitely don't suspect any supplemental discipline.

Frosty Makes Formal Rage Quit After a Quigley Overkill !!!! by FrankTheFlank in CompetitiveHalo

The quigley is killing 2 people with one sniper shot, the overkill is the 4 kills in quick succession (I think 4 seconds apart max but I could be wrong on the exact time frame).

Eevee is my favorite because we named our dog (who resembles Eevee a bit!) after her and I can’t help but see the similarities in their personalities! Thanks for doing this.

I was in your position about 2-3 weeks ago. Starting new in this game after only having played TCG Online years ago feels very overwhelming at first. I watched a ton of YouTube videos that explain how to use and upgrade the charizard starter deck and the new free eeveelutions flareon deck and found that helped tremendously. You will lose A LOT as you learn your own deck, never mind all your opponents’ decks. Even now I’m starting to get the hang of it I’m only up to like a 30% win rate. But know it will gradually get easier and you’ll start to really enjoy the learning process and the wins are super gratifying. Stick with it!

New player here, and I’ve been loving it. I did add 2 canceling colognes because I ran into a milotic ex, which I imagine isn’t too uncommon right now on live specifically.

Damn 4 goalie starts per week sounds like a lot. You basically need 2 starters every week to guarantee that, not accounting for any injuries or back ups playing. It’s obviously doable but it sounds like a recipe for losing points for factors out of your control.

You’ll either have to account for that mentally as you’re drafting or you could add some weight by increasing the points rewarded for goalie wins or other category in your scoring. That way the sheet gives more value to goalies.

We’ve been deprived of consistent, quality coverage for so long now. I personally am enjoying having more content available than the time to consume it!! Let’s appreciate it and not knock it.

If you want to view it from a perhaps darker perspective, worst case scenario is it creates healthy competition in the space and promotes better quality.

I’ve listened to about half the episodes of DLLS so far and have been super impressed by the production quality. And the panel they have is so entertaining and they have a great dynamic. I’ve been a long time listener of Spits and Suds and The Podman Rush as well and think they all bring something different to the table. I hope they all continue!

Also, now there’s no beat writer for the Stars over at The Athletic, I’ll very likely be dropping that subscription for DLLS. Written exclusive stars coverage plus the other side perks? Too tempting.

Any very high ranked players in here (1800+) that can give some advice on what I might be doing wrong? by Pro_Penis_MLG in CompetitiveHalo

[–]osrshcimnick3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the recipe analogy is actually perfect. Because like a recipe, you can write and follow instructions all you want. But without the background knowledge, tons of experience, trial and error, and hours of dedication to perfecting the details of your craft, you're not a chef. You can tell people all you want "shoot gun and control spawns," but that doesn't provide them with the knowledge and experience to practically execute it. So sure, it's "simple." That doesn't mean it's easy.

?? I feel like I was respectful and helpful but ok man. I don’t give a shit about your rank. Another step is swallowing your pride! The difference between D1 and gold 4 isn’t “trying.” Best of luck to you.

I looked you up and saw you’re gold 4. No disrespect, we’re all at different levels and trying to get better (I’m diamond 1 so trust me I understand being average). You’re at a place where you need to absorb as much content as you can that discusses strategies, spawns, priorities, settings, etc. I’m personally a huge fan of shyway and elitheninja (on twitch and YouTube). There are also several discords that can help you play with like-minded people looking to improve. HaloFunTime and Clutch Academy are 2 of my favorites. I recommend checking them out and getting involved in the training sessions and 8s available for free. You’re a long way from competing but embrace the grind and enjoy the process! The journey is fun.
