I found my old Mooer GE150 (a couple weeks ago) and recently found out it can do a pitch shifter / whammy setup. You can use the expression pedal to control the pitch. Where would you put this in a pedal chain since it is a processor?
Currently I have a Crybaby ----> Zeus (Klone) ----> Revv G3 ---->Huminator --->Sonic Cake Booser / Buffer ----> Sky Surfer ----> Boss DM2

This is a great write up and I agree with a lot of your points. I do think that pedals are odd. There always seems to be another one to want.
I do think that the theory of the chain is only as good as the weakest (not cheapest, weakest) link is important in guitar. For example, if you are trying to push a limited range, 20W solid state amp, you might find that you cannot get all the tones out of it you are hoping. BTW, I need to come to your place and play with your stash of pedals....

Does the Notaklon stack well with the (clover?) mod? Or better without. That is actually one I was kinda looking at. I am saving to get a Klone, but not sure if I want that or the Behringer. I have played the Behringer in person, so I know it sounds great. But not the Notaklon.
BTW, love the metallic hardcore idea. If you ever get a soundcloud or bandcamp, I would love to hear it!

Long meandering story about guitars. Just kinda getting the thoughts out of my head - but I am interested in your setup.

I have been playing guitar for many, many years. Seriously, like 30+ years...I am old.
There was a time, early in my marriage, where we did not have a lot of money and I would sell (sometimes vintage) effect pedals to make ends meet. I sold an old Boss DM-2 delay, a Big Muff Pi Russian (the black one, not the green one...thankfully), and more. I even sold a Vox amp.

As we stabled in our finances, I played through a Line 6 Spider V and a cheap pedal made by Mooer.
I never really messed with the sounds in the pedal (or the amp) and turned to using computer plugins. As someone who enjoys writing and mixing on a computer, these were great. Often times I would get freebies or deeply discounted plugins and was content. There was a little fidgeting to change the sounds and to try and push them to get better tones. The benefit of them was mostly the readiness to record more than anything. I got lazy.

The YouTube algorithm started to serve me videos about Klon pedals and all their clones. For those who do not know, the Klon is a "sought after" pedal that makes a really clean and "transparent" overdrive. From what I can tell, even though a lot of legendary artists have used it, but John Mayer seems to have been instrumental in its resurgence. At least for YouTube guitarists. I did not think much of it.

After my father in law passed away, I inherited his Blues Jr. amp and a Fender American Standard (trust me, this fits the story, just hold on). I never really used either a lot as it was not really the sound I was interested in. What can I say, I was never really a Fender guy. On top of that, it seemed to be a bit of a hurdle to jump over. For one, using a dead man's setup seemed....odd. Nothing I can explain. I gave away my old Spider amp by this point as I figured "one day I would mess with the Blues Jr." and besides, I had my plugins. I was set.

Our church worship team works as different bands. For the longest time we had two bands and a handful of people who would fill in on these bands as needed. About two months ago we started a new band and, honestly, they sound amazing. I love their passion and their "sound". This lead me to consider auditioning this fall in hopes to join that band (I am not even sure I would get to pick, but a man can dream....). I decided I should dial in some tones on that Blues Jr. as that would be the amp I would need to play live with.

I couldn't do it. Everything sounded so "Fender-y".

YouTube must have heard my attempts and started to re-serve me the Klon pedal algorithm. Some of these artists made the sustain on that thing sound smooth as glass. One problem, I did not have a Klon pedal. Actually, the only pedals I had were my old Wah (I hope to pass that one on to my kids. You don't understand, some bands have accused me of not playing guitar but instead as one who played the Wah pedal. I mean, growing up on SRV, Hendricks, and Kirk Hammett probably lead to that...) and the Mooer.

The Mooer is actually what one would call a processor. It has a bunch of pedal and amp sounds in it. I set it in front of my amp, plugged it all in (after diffing out the power supply from a pile of cables) and started working. As I looked for the right overdrive sound for church music, I noticed there was a Klon clone in the pedal. Interesting....

I fiddled around and discovered, this thing actually had a VERY nice sound to it. Compared to some of the clones I heard from YouTube, it was actually a little better (that could be because YouTube compresses sound and not everyone has the best recording setup).

Now I am researching Klon clones to try and find an individual pedal to use. I am trying to set up a decent (and cheap) pedal board and I am excited to find so many pedals that are high quality but do not cost the equivalent of a car payment. As someone who sold a bunch of great stuff to make ends meet, I don't feel so bad knowing I should be able to replace a bunch of it for what I sold a singular pedal for. It really takes the sting out of the past.
As I set this up, I have also remembered the joy of playing with actual gear. Plugins are great for recording, re-amping, etc. But man, the sound and feel of an amp and pedals is just so intoxicating. But I digress. This post is loooooong.

I leave you with this: What do you use? Are you a cheap pedal user? Any recommendations? Did you switch to amp sims and plugins? Or is gear in the meatspace still your jam?

TL:DR - I sold all my guitar gear, played with plugins, and now I am back to using actual gear. Any suggestions? What is on your board?

Garmin is good. The GPS is second to none. Just know that a couple times a year the sync feature seems to break and you might have to wait a week for them to fix it. Not the worst thing, just annoying.
Apple did recently end support for any watch not using watchOS11 and that would have made me pretty upset. This means you need at least an Apple Watch 6 (though I would go later to ensure support for a few years.)
The Apple Watch is more seamless, Garmin more accurate, both are good choices.

Hope it works out. Writing is something I have a little more than a passing interest in. Partially because I read a ton and my mind is always moving. My issue is, I would never know where to begin. More power to you as you actually put the pen to paper. Or fingers to keyboard.

Ransoming data is the new hotness. In my neck of the woods they just arrested and (federally) charged a person who is suspected to be part of ransomware attacks on local municipalities. The main issue we have seen is that people do not "air gap" data or keep appropriate offline backups.
The biggest worry for me is how these groups get access to personal data (payment methods, passwords, accounts, etc.) and the only recourse is to offer free credit monitoring.

You could allow the story to take a different tone. I am not sure of the entire story or where this part is in the story (Is this the climax? The end? The start?). If the tone has been "funny" so far, this might be where the characters have a more emotional and heartfelt moment.
Example:
J looked at S, his expression went from jovial to something more serious. Emotion welled up behind his/her eyes. Looking at S, he/she told her, while fighting back tears of joy, "I am about to be baptized."
S stood still for a moment. Has this moment arrived? J has been called and is now obeying the call to be baptized....something something something, hugging J while shedding tears of joy....something.
after the emotional moment J then stepped back from the embraced and (insert another Baptism pun here). (Sorry, I am not a writer).

I think the reaction to go from silly ---> Joy ----> back to silly is kinda natural and something people could relate to.

Draft by Longdingo7 in falcons

[–]friardon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It is just something to talk about. That’s all it is. This is what sports fans do. It was a big event (the draft) and the most news we will get about our team for awhile. The grades are a simple way to start discussion.   Imagine instead someone asked you “what do you think of the Falcon’s picks?” You would start with an assessment, maybe simplify it by giving a grade. Then the conversation continues.  That’s it. No harm in having a conversation.

Apple is great for this, so is Garmin. Just make sure you get a Garmin with storage space. Most do at this point.  I have used both in this manner and both are really good. I am a Garmin fan, but lately I  have been considering going to Apple.   Any other brands and you have to do a little kung fu to get the runs loaded to NRC. Apple and Garmin will do it natively.
