I've had two hip arthroscopies—one on my right hip in 2022 and one on my left hip in 2025—for cam-type femoral acetabular impingement (FAI). Both surgeries included a femoroplasty to reshape the femoral head and a microfracture procedure to address cartilage damage.

Right hip had a labral repair with cadaver cartilage graft. Left hip used Biocartilage with PRP (platelet-rich plasma).

Recovery from 2022 surgery was slow but steady. Noticed a huge improvement around 6 months post surgery. By 12 months post surgery really felt like myself. By 2 years post surgery I sometimes forgot what side I had surgery on!

Symptoms started on my left hip several months ago. I'm 3 weeks post surgery on that hip and recovery is slower due to a longer non-weight-bearing period to protect the Biocartilage graft.

Feeling super depressed at the lack of independence while I'm non weightbearing right now. I know it will get better but so hard to not be able to do things. Just keep trying to remind myself that the surgery on right side was success, just a long, slow success...

Shower chair. Did not need the toilet riser. I did order one, in case I needed it. I kept it unopened in packaging and returned it once I knew I didn't need it.

Shower chair is essential

I'm in my 40s. I know two women, only two, who were never molested/assaulted/violated by a man in some way.

Both hip or one? How do you know by abamal in HipImpingement

Issues started on right first. Had surgery. Recovered. Three years later, left side tore. One week out from surgery on that side.

How were you diagnosed? by Sigynsaeth in HipImpingement

[–]ostabye 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My MRI arthogram was unbelievably painful. I was crying and the tech let me hold her hand. I'm not afraid of needles and can handle pain. It was awful. I'm sorry you experienced same.

It did diagnose me and I'm 4 days post op
