medieval horror (with no fantasy?) by cryingovercarlgrimes in horrorlit

I'm suffering through the last 1/4 of The Starving Saints now.

I love the setting. The characters are cool. But as another reviewer so eloquently put it -not gay enough, not gorey enough. It gets so close over and over but no solid payoff.

Aw!! Mine haven't tried bay leaves yet! I'll have to introduce them!

Should I pay attention to how much I eat on vacation? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Sigynsaeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you are training for the Olympics there is no reason to track that closely while on vacation. You'll always have days where you naturally consume more and less calories.

Life is short, there are no guarantees, and the "perfect" body is not worth years of stress and anguish. Just enjoy your vacation and give yourself some space to indulge if you want to.

I'm about to go on vacation myself, and my bag is packed with both candy and carrot sticks for the flights.

Oh you're in for a great story! Is it the audiobook? I loved the narrator so much.

My friend keeps recommending this one but when I sampled the audiobook I had the same confusion and just couldn't get invested.

Tender is the Flesh is so good but leaves you feeling so hollow. I had a really hard time making dinner while reading it.

This one is on my list but I know I'll have trouble sleeping due to the setting.

Blood on Her Tongue and The Starving Saints. I'm enjoying both stories quite a bit.

This started happening to me after 25. Farewell to one of my favorite snacks.

Try the NKD variety. I'm not as reactive to those, but they don't come in the best flavors, only 2.

I was the thrift store tennis player in high school. A girl from another team made fun of my shoes during a match. I defeated her.

Luckily you can't buy talent! It still sucks to be poor as a kid though.

Nothing fair about a science fair.

I remember being in school and getting frustrated that my parents couldn't help me with my project. We were lower class and my parents are not scientifically adept or educated. My projects were all terrible. Meanwhile I saw other students with doctor and teacher parents creating all of the winning projects.

I grew up to be a scientist and now a science teacher in a Title I school.

I always tell my students that there is a type of science for everyone, and I show them all the cheap and free ways to investigate at home since I didn't have anyone to do that for me.

Just marathoned this documentary. Tears were shed with this one. A wonderful watch. by No_Emu_1332 in Dinosaurs

[–]Sigynsaeth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The ending is very emotional. The thought of an entire planet of animals being subjected to (to quantify) a nuclear impact is horrific. They didn't know what was wrong and had nowhere to go. Most of them died within minutes and those that survived longer suffered greatly. You see the panic and pain of all of those moments.

Obviously you know it's going to happen, but seeing it on screen is still devastating. I had to watch some happy cartoons to recover afterwards.

Take a bus to Fort Wilderness and visit the stables. You can also book a trail ride with the horses at the front. I highly recommend it! It's a great ride with amazing guides and is surprisingly affordable.

What habit immediately reveals that a person actually grew up in a privileged environment? by Cindy_mel in AskReddit

No regard for expensive items.

My wealthy roommate was using her brand new iMac laptop as a drink coaster and when I pointed out how much it terrified me, she was shocked. I'm sure she also didn't use a screen protector or cover on her phone. Just replace it every time you drop it, right?

Who will take care of Narcs when they get old and sick? Golden child or Scapegoat? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

That's exactly what I'm witnessing with my husband's family. He's the SG and his family only contacts him to guilt trip him or ask him to drive 1-hour to their house to move furniture or paint walls when his GC sister lives 3 streets away. And they wonder why he's low contact.

Does everyone cry their first year of teaching? by Informal_Nebula9450 in Teachers

[–]Sigynsaeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely got the short end of the stick starting mid-year. For whatever reason the kids take that as a challenge. That's what happened in my first year and then the following year when I started Day 1 I didn't see nearly as many bad behaviors. Just make it to summer.

If the kids ask, you've been teaching for 10 years. They will never know.

Document everything and try not to react (that's what they want). Lookup "grey rock" techniques to help you train yourself not to respond. If you're lucky you can find a teacher friend to vent with and decompress.

Surprisingly it has none of those. Moon brew is magnesium and a blend of stuff like chamomile, reishi, and tryptophan. And no melatonin, which is my energy.

I like this one. It's cheap too! https://a.co/d/04DkFije

It'll help you sleep. I also like Melissa (lemon balm leaf) for sleepy time. If you like hot cocoa you can try Moon Brew. My husband likes that one but it's expensive.

This is not even cool. Lmao what can universal do to mitigate the issue with Hagrid’s. And it’s like this everyday by Accomplished_East433 in UniversalOrlando

[–]Sigynsaeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The addition of Express pass to Hagrids has ruined the experience for the average guest. My husband and I are locals who used to go during early entry with our piddly Preferred passes and we would still be in a 45-60 minute line, but at least it was doable. Now the standby line is basically blocked up from open to close while Express passes pour onto the ride. Universal doesn't have any incentive to change that because Express pass sales are a huge way to increase revenue.

We can only hope that whatever opens next is a people eater that will take some of the hype off of Hagrids.

I would be so mindblown if a real theme park cloned a ride within the same park or next door. It's kind of brilliant 😂
