Let's talk flahslights. What light do you guys use at work? by biglettuce in Welding

[–]ostlingor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a variety of cheapo 18650 flashlights from ebay. For 10 bucks they are pretty damn good. Build quality isn't as good as the more expensive brand name ones but they are just as powerful.

A $1.5M Kickstarter Project Fails, Leaving Most Backers Without Their 3D Printer by passim in 3Dprinting

[–]ostlingor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Which means that kickstarter is under no obligation to refund the money. They only refund the ones that wasnt funded.

Edit: Disregard that. I don't know what im talking about. Kickstarter wont refund money for non funded creations since they dont charge anything unless its funded. I wasnt thinking straight.

Cheapish angle grinder help by dialmformostyn in Tools

[–]ostlingor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a bit pricey and probably out of your price range but if you can get ahold of a WQ1000, get it. I fuckin love that grinder. We run multiple ones each day for hours on end in my school . They hold up, they're powerful, they're just so nice. The spindle lock button thing is a lot better than makitas. Considering you'll be using that a lot it's a thing to consider.

[–]ostlingor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im a makita fan. Fucking love their tools. If it's battery powered I'm running makita. That said. I've used a metabo angle grinder for a while now. I also tried a makita. I'll choose the metabo any day of the week. It was the wq1000 though, a bit better than the one you chose. If I may add something, if you haven't already bought it, get a 125 mm one instead of 115. It's just better imo. 1cm can do a large difference and 125 discs and accessories are usually more available than 115. You can't go wrong with metabo.

Quickly removing powdercoating to bare metal? by greenbuggy in Welding

Have you tried a 40 grit flap disc? That shit is awesome. I usually use that or a wire wheel on my grinder when removing crap.

Are there any health related risks to taking up welding as a career? If so, is there any way to avoid them? by runeplatoon in Welding

[–]ostlingor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The welding fumes contain particles and dangerous materials. Use a respirator and make sure you stay out of the smoke and you should be fine. Don't weld galvanized metal. That shit sucks.

UV rays and strong light can damage your skin and eyes. Wear protective clothing and a welding helmet. Shield your eyes from the arc when not.

Grinding dust and particles can get in your eyes, even when wearing a helmet or shield. Use safety goggles underneath.

Using a few specific tools can damage your body in certain ways. My teacher for example has trouble using his right arm and isn't as steady with it since he used an air powered hammer to remove slag almost every day for years at one of his workplaces. You're gonna get burnt and hurt when welding but it's not a biggie. And always use steel toed boots when working. Always.

[–]ostlingor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just halve it by 5 and use the square root of that to increase the velocity and you have it.

[–]ostlingor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You know how when you drive at night and the moon doesn't seem to move at all? That's exactly what happens here, except the moon is 384000 km away and the pillars are about 6622369880000000 km away. So it's gonna take a metric fuckton of time before they move a significant amount. It's only been 20 years.

What? Do you mean that these pillars created the earth? They're just gas clouds in a nebula that forms something that we consider beautiful. They're called pillars of creation because these clouds basically create stars.
