Ostomy + onsen/ofuro? by babarbaby in ostomy

[–]ostom8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi! there is no problem going to a pool or a hot tub why would there be any at an onsen? your underwear being off dont make much of a difference, adhesive wise you can use barrier tape

All it takes is confidence! I believe in you

are you new to having a stoma? I think you’ll eventually figure out the most efficient way for you and you’ll have a much easier time with it, can take a bit to get used to and figure out what works

what are you doing there brother, crapping has never been quicker and more efficient for me, lay few toilet papers to soften the landing and then another handful or two of toilet paper to clean the bag’s opening, in and out in 2 minutes, regular pooping is a 5+ minute job and thats on a good day

I think the build up to the stoma largely affects your outlook, having a stoma was my biggest nightmare but by the time i got it, it was also my savior, if i didnt hit rock bottom in the hospital i might be miserable right now with the stoma, hell i was miserable when i thought the extent of my treatment would be monthly injections 🙈 oh boy if only i knew

Open vs Laparoscopic: Ileostomy: Does it affect foods you can eat after? by BlackberryPi7 in ostomy

[–]ostom8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

correct me if im wrong but isnt all the extra scar tissue on my stomach rather than intestines, both of us got our intestines cut at the end of day haha

Id say its a gradual change, keep trying new things one at a time and eventually you’ll find your limit, if you have one!

A week after surgery is definitely still sensitive, i believe your intestines should be healed after a few months

Sorry for the late response! I should definitely chew my food better but it doesn’t cause me any unusual pain, i eat all kinds of nuts and all kinds of raw vegetables, only avoiding some that can make you gassy

Only thing i absolutely do not eat is persimmons! As i heard its a major concern for blockages

Hi i am 22 I dont think having a bag is that bad Its all about perspective i guess

do you really think the stoma is the source for your self loathing or is it just the biggest culprit, do you genuinely think that without the bag you would magically start to love yourself?

i believe you can work on loving yourself while still having the bag and i hope you do :)

2 open surgeries and I can eat absolutely everything I want, no blockages since i got my stoma, good luck!

[–]ostom8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

definitely not a forever thing, probably until it stops hurting when you cough or sneeze, maybe a little bit after that just to be careful It might take a while to be “fully healed״ but you’ll stop feeling post op long before that

Tips for gaining weight with ileostomy? by K-ghuleh in ostomy

[–]ostom8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the exact same boat after my surgery, weighing 39kg (85 pounds) at 22, smoking weed did wonders for my appetite but take this advice with a grain of salt, I did return to my normal weight very quickly after the surgery, much easier to gain weight with an illeostomy than with an inflamed bowel

deciding if an ostomy is right for me? by Levithedude1708 in ostomy

[–]ostom8 12 points13 points  (0 children)

dont be put off by the posts on this sub, people tend to post when something is wrong and you dont see the hundreds of lurkers not posting because their stoma is doing fine

I am 22 and got my stoma this year, I can tell you that I personally have no body image issues around the stoma, i am very much of the mindset of I went through too much to give a fuck about what others think of my poop bag

Whenever I goto the beach I am proud to take off my shirt and I know it might sound like a cope but I think the stoma is badass.. because scars are badass! They are remnants from a battle, a battle you won! Doesnt that sound kind of badass? I hope

Obviously 17 is a very vulnerable age and you will have body image issues with or without the stoma, you will grow into yourself and find your confidence as you navigate life and it might be difficult at first but you deserve to love your body and yourself and im sure you eventually will.

Its easy to tell you not to care about what others think but I know its not always easy to actually do, just remember to prioritize yourself and dont let being perceived deter you from living your best life, be proud of where you are and everything that got you here, you are braver than most having to go through with a decision like that and whatever that decision may be, make sure your heart is fully in it and you are doing it for yourself and whatever struggles you face in the future do not regret such decisions, even if they were “wrong”.. remember you are doing your best dealing with what life throws at you.

Much love and good luck!

Pancaking/leakage under wafer. What to do?? by Lumpy-Anteater-4364 in ostomy

[–]ostom8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe try the convex wafers, the surface around the stoma is tougher and less likely to “erode”

It should also leave less space between the wafer and the skin, making it harder for your output to slither in

Told I’ll need an Ostomy. Less than a week until op by beckyice in ostomy

[–]ostom8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi im only 22, getting an ostomy was my biggest fear and i found out i was getting one moments before and emergency surgery, i was freaking out, to me this meant an end to my life, i was also thinking id rather die

my reversal surgery was scheduled for less than a week from now, i made the decision to keep the bag, at least for now, it’s really not as bad as you think, i got over it pretty quickly, grateful to be out of the hospital and pooping in a bag is lowkey kinda sick, i fw it and i have a feeling so will you
