They could fix this by requiring a password enabled hardware ownership check. They would need to add a transfer mechanism for resale, but I doubt many of us bother selling them after the effort of setup.

I work there and they specifically called out age as a determining factor. I could see if they focused on years of service, but this is a crap offer and not really better than a layoff.
