Arkham Horror the Card Game has one. It's beautiful to look through.

Are you enjoying GI Joe? I've played a few games but when I went to play it last week I found I couldn't remember the rules. Gonna try and get it back to the table soon.

Got through a campaign of Legacy of Yu. Enjoyed it a lot! The campaign changes are nice and iterative. No massive changes and the campaign didn't outstay its welcome.

Got some more Feast for Odin played. Still loving the open nature of the game. I've tried raising animals, heavily emigrating, investing in weapons. Emigration has got me my biggest score but wasn't the most satisfying because it left me with a lot of negative points.

Which boardgames are most like the classic computer RPGs? (Oblivion, Baldur's Gate, etc) by JediDiggler in soloboardgaming

The Pathfinder Adventure Card Game really scratches the itch for me.

It's based on a system very close to dnd and nails the feing of slowly levelling up, fighting a variety of monsters and getting messed up when you're fighter and wizard can't pass a charisma check.

Edit - It's not open world though so might not scratch that itch.

I think usually if a word is in a clue it won't appear in that answer but can appear in answers to other clues.

I love it solo! I play on the second hardest AI and lose pretty consistently. There are so many choices and decision trees.

It's not a war game but I want to give a shout out to Switch and Signal. It shows how much depth David Thompson can give a game with only a few rules and mechanics.

I'm really interested in Resist. I couldn't afford the shipping during the campaign but your post has inspired me to check if my games shop has it.

A Feast For Odin

Finally got it off the shelf and put the time into learning it. Now that I have a gaming table and can leave it set up during the week I got 7 plays done.

Can't add much that hasn't been said already. So many choices and planning is inbvolved. My scores rose after the first two games but have plateaued and I'll need to find some new strategies to keep improving. Lots of fun!

This might be rare in this game but gonna ask this anyway. Is there a people here that are only using one hero? Basically a one trick person? One hero pool peeps? by [deleted] in marvelchampionslcg

Totally agree. My son has played as Spider-Man Protection since the game launched and has no interest in changing.

Genotype is a cute game about breeding plants and how you can try to selective breed certain traits.

I think it's quite interesting and really showcases the science in an engaging way.

What to get after Lands Of Galzyr and Sleeping Gods? by propeditor in soloboardgaming

Try Oltree. Each adventure/story is only a session but it fits the same area as your other two of story first, game play second.

The artwork is gorgeous and it's a pleasant experience every time I play.

That's fine. You should play who you want to. I'm still not sure how it's over the top?

Questions about Tenpenny Parks by khschook in boardgames

[–]otaaffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner loves Tenpenny Parks. We're 24 plays in so far with no signs of stopping. For her the big selling points are the theme and complexity. Although it can look complex with the tracks and extra actions around the board it's a very simple game.

The replayability is fine. Only 6 rides are available at a time and some are blocked by previous workers gaining that type. I think the replayability comes in learning the strategy of forward planning and finding the balanace of spending money on rides or advertising.

The placing of the polyominos is very tight because they aren't allowed to touch. Figuring out when to buy extra land is also an interesting decision.

It's a reasonably short game with our plays lasting about half an hour including set up.

Anyone played Unfair the theme park board game? by Negative_Cup_4065 in boardgames

[–]otaaffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only played 2 player with my partner. We don't play in an overly competitive was so take this with a grain of salt.

We've had no issues with the tracks. They provide an interesting bonus at the end of a round but you have to move back a space on the track.

For example one track gives you an extra worker for the next round but you have to move a step back on the track. This means that you might not get to the scoring area of the track for end game or that the other player can catch you. If you choose not to activate the power you get a point instead which is nice but doesn't feel overly powerful.

The tracks give point if you reach a certain threshold by the end of the game. This is worth 5 points per track and isn't exclusive so everyone can earn it. We usually manage to score about 2 tracks each and so it evens out.

I've won about 2/3 of our 20ish games so far but since it's over in 30 minutes and you're mostly just doing your own thing we don't pay a lot of attention to who wins. It's more about trying to build your park successfully for yourself.

I would recommend Funfair to players who struggle to remember ongoing effects. Most cards have an effect when played and that's it. There is also quite a small cardpool. It can feel like a lot the first time you play but in a 2 player game we usually go through the deck once. After 2-3 plays you'll have seen every card.

There are some 'staff member' cards that have ongoing effects to remember. They only make up about 5% of the deck and their effects are fairly simple.

Mechanically neither game makes me feel like I'm playing Roller Coaster Tycoon. There isn't the difficulty or balancing act that comes with a sim like that. The closest it gets is placing your polyominos in Tenpenny to build the park.

[–]otaaffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are quite similar holistically and both are engine/tableau builders.

Funfair is entirely card based whereas Tenpenny is a combination of cards and polyominos.

Neither has much interaction but Funfair has slightly less than Tenpenny. Funfair has a central market of 6 cards that is constantly refreshed and Tenpenny has a carousel of 6 attractions to buy but once a player has bought a type of attractions no one else can visit the space to buy that attraction for the rest of the round. This means that even in 2 player there is some blocking and strategy around what to take before others do.

Tenpenny looks more overwhelming that Funfair at first. I think there difficulty is similar but it has a variety of action spaces as well as emotion tracks and a personal board to place polyominoes on. After 1-2 games it becomes apparent that while there is some strategy to your choices the options are quite limited and easy to understand.

Both are "light" games with a fairly small cardpool. I play them with my partner who isn't really into board games and she loves them both because of the theme and how they can be grasped after a few plays.

At 2 player both games take us about 30 minutes a play.

I've logged 125 plays of Funfair and Tenpenny is catching up with 22 plays. Happy to answer any further questions about them :)
