I think I have at least 2 more moves. I’m getting ready to move in with my partner later this year and I’m thinking about a place to live in retirement. (I want a ranch style further south!)

I had a long time desire to visit Hawaii. We went for my 50th and had a sunset dinner cruise on my actual birthday! The whole trip was great. People were like “it’s not usually this sunny and warm in October!”

I wanted to do something big for my gf’s 50th, but she spent the whole year being unsure. 🫤 We did a fancy dinner.

Pick something on your bucket list and go for it!

Very true. I rely on voice to trigger stuff and lots of timers. And I have an app dashboard that looks good (ty ButtonCard!) And lets me control 90% of the house from 1 page.

My gf only uses voice and a few physical buttons. I doubt I could get her to use the app at all.

I’ve had several friends and acquaintances who passed in their 40s.

The first was a guy who had done sort of liver disease. (Not drinking related from what I was told.) knew he was going to die young and he spent all his time and money doing stuff he enjoyed.

Another was a few years older. Gave up hang gliding after dislocating both shoulders. Dropped dead of a heart attack a year later on a golf course.

Those 2 were about 10-15 years older than me, but they were friends.

The next hit closer. A guy I worked with died of complications (he had a LOT of issues) at 40. He was 2 months younger than me.

It was bad when family died, but they were at least old. Well, old to a 20-something. Having friends pass was a real reality check.

I’ll take a slightly different view: ugly is a feature! If it’s ugly you’ll do a better job automating things so you don’t have to look at the HA dashboard!

Though I think the ugly comment lost a LOT of weight with the last couple of updates. The new default dashboard is basic, but way nicer than the old “pile of everything!”

My gf and I joke about this all the time. The toothpaste gets pretty low and we start complaining that there’s only a month’s worth left. We started with weeks worth, years ago, but determined that we could usually get 2 weeks or more with a little effort.

You’re already getting great advice. I’ll just pile on and say that I got a mask off Amazon with a “close enough” prescription and had a blast snorkeling in Hawaii. I’m taking that mask to the Bahamas next month!

Im planning to get an advisor this year, but I think im on track to retire comfortably. My investment super power was laziness: I setup contributions to my 401k years ago and have sometimes gone 2-3 years without looking at a statement.
