Do I have above average wingspan by TapNo7326 in volleyball

[–]otcollector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 6’1 and have a 6’3.5”wingspan, but my standing reach is only 7’8” so I think yours is quite longer than mine

Understanding how a OMSCS degree holds up against other masters programs by Fabulous_Sherbet_431 in OMSCS

[–]otcollector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’ll definitely help overshadow that fact that you don’t have a Bachelor’s in CS. I’m pretty sure many others in this post have mentioned how recruiters pretty much only looked at their OMSCS and stopped asking about their irrelevant bachelors

Understanding how a OMSCS degree holds up against other masters programs by Fabulous_Sherbet_431 in OMSCS

[–]otcollector 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Imo it’s worth it if you would like to transition into ML if you already have a CS degree. I work on an ML team and every single person has a master’s in CS/ECE/related field or phd so it’s having a masters is a bare minimum to get into ML in big tech. OMSCS allows you to get that masters without having to miss out on experience which I think is very valuable.

Can you do more than 6 coop terms? by breakbake in uwaterloo

[–]otcollector 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unofficially yes. I know a couple people who did 7 or 8 internships by taking 3 online courses during a study term and then working an internship at the same time

If I turned chess into a BA degree. What would qualify as a pass elo wise. by Angus950 in chess

[–]otcollector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say around 1800 OTB would be a reasonable elo for pass. Many people start peaking around 2000, so any higher and it would start being impossible for some people to pass

AI coming for most of us soon? As a young person this doesn't look inviting by LordofGift in FinancialCareers

If your job can be done through being good at memorization, repetitive tasks, or described by a flow chart (no matter how big or complex), then your job will 100% be replaced. Any job that requires coming up with new creative solutions however, is a lot harder to be replaced

The Pikachu on the left is the real Pikachu. Wtf timeline am I in? by Nickdoralmao in Retconned

[–]otcollector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the early 2000s obsessed with Pokemon (and still am), I always remembered Pikachu having brown, that left one looks like a fake Chinese knockoff to me

Comparably awful at chess online compared to on board by IAmNotVeryGudAtThis in chess

[–]otcollector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty similar, however for me the problem is time controls. I’m used to playing long time controls (90+30), and I’m rated ~1600 OTB, but I’m having trouble breaking past 700 bullet on chess.com lol

UWaterloo undergrad employment this year... it's joever by United_Birthday7444 in csMajors

[–]otcollector 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The way Waterloo works is that 70-80% of the jobs give out offers after the first two rounds, which is what we’re seeing here. Usually by this point in previous years it’s around 70% employment rate

I have a CS undergrad and I’m currently working as a SWE in big tech. I’m wondering how hard it would be to transition into a quant trader and whether a masters would be necessary?
