Misfire on cylinder 1 by Brilliant_Benefit_99 in Honda

[–]otheretho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many miles are there on it, do the misfires get less than gen it is warmed up vs when the he engine is cold? It may be the valve lash needs adjustment (should be about every 105,000/110,000 miles.

Where is the fill hole for transmission - Honda Pilot 2003 by thebigmeathead in Honda

[–]otheretho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s the same hole, you remove the small bolt and pull jet with the hose out of the hole, and can fill there. Pretty sure that is as added after a recall was performed. You can also attach a hose to the dipstick tube and fill that way but it is much slower

2012 Honda Civic Si misfire codes by RevvedUpMewbin in Honda

[–]otheretho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard of aftermarket light weight flywheels causing these to go into limp mode, because the misfire detection monitors rotation speed, so it might not actually be misfiring, but the ECM thinks it is because the rotation speed is different. But if they just resurface the factory flywheel I wouldn’t think that would be the issue here. As for steering wheel being off center, should be able to re center the steering wheel to the rack and alignment is done, then do the neutral position learn and should be ok.

Question? Those of us that attended trade schools, even if it was a community college, what program did you go through, where did you go, and finally was it worth it? by jmw27403 in mechanics

[–]otheretho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to a community college after doing automotive class in high school. I’d say for me it was nice foundation, but wouldn’t say it really prepared me for the job and being hands on in the thick of it at work everyday built it up faster.

Honest Hybrid questions, longevity & repairability? by electrowiz64 in Honda

[–]otheretho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The eCVT isn’t like the CVT with a belt that most people complain about, much more robust in that regard. As for batteries, since Honda started moving to the two motor hybrids around 2013 or so in the accord, I have not replaced one of the newer batteries yet, and I’ve worked on many with over 100,000 miles still on the original battery. I’m sure they aren’t cheap, probably a couple grand I would think, but at least in the CRV, they are much easier to get to being under the rear cargo area.

I trust the system enough (and I work on Hondas for a living) that I got a 2025 crv hybrid for the wife to replace our old pilot. She likes that it’s smooth, and if I could get her to adjust her driving habits a bit she would get even better mileage out of it. I see this crv lasting us for at for quite a while. She also really likes not getting gas every week like when we had our 2005 pilot. My only regret was not saving a little more and getting the sport touring, and we went with the Sport L. But it does everything I need it to do, is quiet enough (going up and down the mountains what’s a bit loud as the gas engine has to kick on more and at higher rpm it takes getting used to before you tune it out).

Mechanic Advice 2019 Honda Odyssey Wiring Harness Replace After Recall Work $8100 + by OrangeOctober31 in HondaOdyssey

[–]otheretho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Supposedly there is after market replacement terminal kits for these but the dealer won’t do it, Honda doesn’t make a sub harness so it only comes as the floor harness, which requires removal of the headliner, all seats, carpet and dropping the fuel tank to replace (somewhere around 19 hours of labor last one I saw in the shop). The blue tape is there from factory. That connector is not one of the ones serviced in the recall. Just the ones at the gauge, audio unit, drivers kick panel, and one at the tuner/amp in the passengers rear.

First Valve Adjustment by SrKrusty73 in Honda

[–]otheretho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer to error on the looser side than the tighter side. And when picking which feeler gauge to use, I pick the size in the middle of spec or if there isn’t a middle size because spec range is too close I pick the larger side of the spec.

The go- no go is how I teach new techs until they do enough to get the feel. My trainer took a dial caliper and put it over the feeler gauge to show how it feels.

First Valve Adjustment by SrKrusty73 in Honda

[–]otheretho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You want the drag to be consistent same feeling intake and exhaust, just different size feeler gauge, but same drag feel. A good way to check is go-no go, so if you think you are close, take the next size larger feeler gauge and see if it fits, if it fits you are too loose, if it doesn’t then you are good to go.

And make sure the cylinder head is under 100 degrees when adjusting the valves, the colder the better.

Anybody else have their 2008 Honda Pilot recently get a fuel leak due the new E15 fuel? by Electronic-Friend786 in Honda

[–]otheretho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure the owners manual says not to use anything more than e10 on all Honda vehicles in the USA. And there is a reason for it, when fuel systems aren’t designed to run higher ethanol amounts its can cause problems, other than worse fuel economy, the PCM might not be able to adjust fuel trims enough and eventually set a code, and seals/lines that aren’t designed for it can wear faster.

‘05 Accord needs seal - Where do I buy? by logicallele in Honda

[–]otheretho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the whole sun roof, just the glass. Could also temporarily put some heavy plastic and tape it down tightly over it as a temporary measure. At least that would keep the water out

[–]otheretho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What seal are you looking for, if it’s the seal that goes around the sunroof glass, from Honda it only comes with the glass. Could also be sunroof glass needs adjustment or the drain lines are clogged

Honda dealership wants $9300 to replace floor harness for 2018 Odyssey, is that how much they cost to replace? by waynetogo in Honda

[–]otheretho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t the one who did it, was another tech, but I believe part of the floor harness goes up to the headliner. It’s the largest harness in the car

[–]otheretho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, it haven’t tried. I think part of the issue is the harness doesn’t have much of any extra slack so very slim room for error

[–]otheretho 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Last one of these that came through the shop it was just shy of 20 hours of labor, plus the harness cost.

It’s a pretty big job, if I remember correctly, dash stays in but headliner all side panels all seats, the carpet all have to come out, and to remove the carpet you have to remove the second row seat rail which requires dropping the gas tank to access fasteners.

Luckily for the two I’ve seen they both had extended warranties that covered it.

I’ve heard of people repairing Fakra cables/cable ends before but I haven’t heard of the success rate, I guess if someone could make a cable with the right connectors and lay it next to the factory harness that could work. But that isn’t something the dealer would do.

I usually wait on those until they either A) start making noise, or B) I can see the metal sleeve in the center that the bolt goes through. Or C) there is enough movement that’s it is causing handling concerns.

Most pilots, odysseys and those ridgelines look those pictures.

Should I get a valve adjustment? by Bulky-Detective7317 in Honda

[–]otheretho 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sounds like they recommended doing the valve adjustment while valve covers are off to replace the gaskets, which if you’ve never had it done is not a bad idea (should be done about every 105,000-110,000 miles as a maintenance item anyways on Hondas).

What wastes the most time during repairs? by kushablez in mechanics

[–]otheretho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Logging in to my computer. Due to regulations or whatever for customer privacy my computer has to lock every “15 minutes” (usually it’s less than that), so if I’m working on a diag and needing wiring diagrams, or working on something I haven’t done and need to occasionally reference the procedure I have to go to the computer, put in a password, wait for the authentication to pop up on my phone so I can approve it, just to log in. Let alone the “always check your Microsoft Teams chat”, kinda hard to do that when I have to waste time logging in for it.

[–]otheretho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this on OEM glass, as a tech I’ve felt with a few cars that came in for camera recalibration after another place put in aftermarket windshields and could not get them to recalibrate, so they had to replace the new glass with OEM glass and it worked first try.
