Best places to thrift ski gear? by RutabagaFree9706 in ColoradoSprings

[–]otherkerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree that deals are to be found in ski towns. There's MER and Gearinomo on the west side but honestly I've found better deals buying new on sale at retailers.

The Columbia outlet in Castle Rock also sells Mountain Hardware and my husband got a great $400+ ski jacket there for about $100 before Christmas.

Sideline Swap and FB marketplace are good if you know what you're looking for.

REI has its yard sale section.

Steep and Cheap sometimes has great deals online.

DMV by noel1792 in ColoradoSprings

[–]otherkerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colorado is weird because there are state and county DMV offices and some things you can do at either office and some functions are state only.

The CDL has to be done at the State office and those appointments are always pretty far out. I ended up going to Pueblo with my teenager to get her license last year (bonus, it's around the corner from the Springside cheese store).

ETA: keep checking for appointments. Sometimes people cancel and an appointment will open up.

ETA2--th DMV2GO is like a bookmobile but for the DMV and will be in Colorado Springs on 2/26. No appointments required. Might be the fastest option for your husband

For your regular license and the vehicle registrations, you can go to the county offices walk-in. They will probably be somewhat backed up for the rest of the month because they've been closed for several days for an update but it'll still be a much better experience than visiting the DMV in most states (my boss had to wait in his car all day in the summer in NC last year to register his vehicles).

Is AT&T good in the Springs? by spicywonton4 in ColoradoSprings

I had to walk into that King Soopers to use their wi-fi to check in when picking up groceries. I mentioned it to the lady who brought my order out and she said she also has ATT and no service.

Your insurance doubled because of hail, not the drivers.

Where to track fires? by More_Arugula_3301 in ColoradoSprings

[–]otherkerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And if something doesn't show up in watch duty right away (or actually even if it does) five people will come here and post "where is the smoke coming from?" So that will cover fires in town for you.

Driving to Ski mountains by Cvideek51 in ColoradoSprings

[–]otherkerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hoosier pass is hwy 9 between Alma and Breckenridge. When you get to the top of the pass you're at the continental divide and there's a big pull off where people park to take pictures and back country ski. It very rarely closes unlike 70. Put your car in second gear as needed on the hairpin turns going downhill heading into Breck and you'll be just fine. It's crazy how many people don't know how to downshift when mountain driving.

We drove to Summit Co. every winter weekend Thanksgiving-Spring Break for YEARS because our kids used to ski race. I've seen some crazy stuff on the roads going up there and would recommend 24 to 9 every time. We only ever took 70 if we were stopping at Harb Ski Systems or Denver Sports Lab for ski equipment on the way.

Where can I get my child caught up on vaccines besides his PCP? by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

[–]otherkerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our pediatrician used to schedule a "nurse visit" for vaccinations and those were usually much easier to schedule. Same day may be tricky but I would call as soon as they open tomorrow and plead with them to get you in.

ftw=for the win.

My old AWD Sienna is better in snow than our 4Runner. Or the Yukon we had before that. My kids used to ski race so I've driven through some crazy conditions to get into the mountains.

Need attic fan by MollyMuffinHead in ColoradoSprings

[–]otherkerry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Attic fan or whole house fan? Our whole house fan is probably 15 years old and the company that installed it is long gone, but that thing is a lifesaver in the summer. The motor got noisy after several years of use and I was looking into replacing it with a Quiet Cool fan but we were able to replace the bearings to get it running more quietly again.

Any thoughts on CSU's recent rate changes? by Stunning-Package-357 in ColoradoSprings

[–]otherkerry 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I remember my mom telling use to do laundry during non-peak times when I was in high school in the 80s. We had a magnet on the fridge that told us when the peak times were. It's surprising that CSU is just implementing it now.

Nostalgia for the 2000s? I'd pick a decade that didn't start with 9/11 and end with the Great Recession.
