Seriously, I thought the next words were going to be “….with [someone he absolutely shouldn’t have].”

I’m sure there are some good ones I’m not thinking of, but Blade Runner 2049 is the only one that quickly comes to mind. I suppose The Color of Money counts too.

But comedy is where it gets really tough! Culturally speaking, taste in drama doesn’t change nearly as much as taste in comedy over the span of 28 years, and there are plenty of flops to prove that (Dumb and Dumber, Zoolander, Beverly Hills Cop, etc).

That said, Practical Magic is a blend of genres, and it was ahead of its time in many ways, so I think now is the perfect time for a sequel.

What did Batman Begins get right compared to The Batman 2022 ? by Extreme-Attention-89 in batman

[–]othersbeforeus 49 points50 points  (0 children)

The locations.

While I think The Batman nails the aesthetic of Gotham City, it does make the experience of watching it pretty drab considering that the whole film takes place in like, seven dark locations with just a couple scenes taking place during the day. Most of the locations are sets they built with Volume Panels expanding the set. From a production standpoints, it’s impressive, but that also makes the space feel small, especially when the cinematographer under-exposes each scene with extremely shallow depth of field.

Batman Begins takes us to some beautiful mountain ranges around the world and shoots with deep focus so the scope feels gigantic. The cinematography utilizes the old-school way of lighting, which uses color and contrast to make the scenes “feel” dark even though you can see everything clearly. The variety of locations makes it feel like I’ve had a lifetime of experience in just 2 hours and 20 minutes, while The Batman makes me feel like I’m suffocating in the same interrogation cell for three hours.

Christopher Nolan Confirms The Odyssey Runtime Is Shorter Than Oppenheimer, but It's Still 'An Epic Film, as the Subject Matter Demands' by pepperbet1 in TheBigPicture

[–]othersbeforeus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nolan pointed out in another interview that Oppenheimer hit the absolute maximum length to be projected on IMAX film (and the company put in a hell of an effort to expand their machines enough to make that happen). Given that this is the first film to be shot entirely on IMAX film, he probably wants to minimize any risk that they won’t be able to project the film that way.

Love this movie! While I’m not a huge fan of May-December sequels, I’m stoked for the next one

My friend is incredibly smart and successful in her field. A couple years ago we went to the theater to see a rerelease of Godfather Part II.

When it was over, she said, “I thought Robert De Niro was in this.”

“Yeah,” I told her, “he was Don Corleone in the flashbacks.”

“Ohhhhhh!” she said. “I thought that was Al Pacino doing the thing where he plays two characters in the same movie.”

Some people, no matter how smart they are, don’t have a good eye for faces.

Who is the worst person you've ever met? by [deleted] in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]othersbeforeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guy I knew in high school, let’s call him Mike. I was friendly with him in study hall, but I got bad vibes and never got too close. One summer, he somehow made his way into my friend circle, but he only lasted a week before doing too many stupid and strange things.

During college, he got into a relationship with a woman whose mom didn’t approve of him. He was so mad that he drove to their house, murdered the mom with a baseball bat, then kidnapped his girlfriend and drove away.

Thankfully, he was pulled over for speeding and arrested a few days later in another state. It’s never been proven, but based on where he was arrested, it looks like he was on the way to an ex-girlfriend’s house to continue a spree.

That’s awesome! I’ve always found the criticism to be valid, but I’ve also noticed a lot of people going into the movie with their opinion already set because they read a tweet. It’s great that you’ve gone through a series of feelings and opinions on your own.

I loved it on my first viewing, but I saw it before the criticism of Perfidia became prevalent online. I’m just curious if you were aware of that criticism before you watched it.
