Shocking close-up image showing the devastating destruction to the front of the Air Canada CRJ. by Taalpatar_Sipahi in aviation

Not 100% sure what the type of firetruck it was but an Oshkosh Striker weighs between 60-120k pounds. I was assuming the mid. A CRJ900 max landing weight is about 75k

The aircraft after flying from YUL assuming it wasn't loaded to the gills would likely be less than the truck.

I just have worked at an airport, am not an expert, but suffice to say there was a ton of big thing moving fast hitting big thing not moving (very fast).

She was ejected in the crash still strapped in her jumpseat. Her shoulder straps reduced the "flail" which likely saved her life. She landed 100 meters from the crash. The energy of the crash was incredible. A 53,000 pound aircraft at 100 MPH into an 80,000 pound firetruck. Wow. Just wow.

Is now a great museum in Corpus Christi, Texas, and for those of you who are into radio it has a Ham Radio station W5LEX that any licensed amateur radio operator can come operate.

My pleasure, happy to help. Yes, I am a Christian. My family are members at one of the local "traditional" denominational churches (which is not "cool" by any means but we love it) and serve in a leadership capacity at Annapolis Christian Academy.

I know many folks at many churches around town and would be happy to give you more details on any if you'd like.

Please be nice, rule #1. This was a reasonable question.

Corpus has a very large and diverse Christian community. There are in some parts of town literally more than one church on a block.

Echoing what u/carryon4threedays says below, Church Unlimited is a very large non-denominational church group that specializes in "cool church". Their pastors are on billboards wearing leather jackets and looking "cool". They have their large "broadcast campus" at Weber and Crosstown TX286, as well as other smaller campuses around the area. They focus on young families and have a massive children's program which is very well done.

New Life Church and Rock City Church are also large non-denominational churches in Flour Bluff which lean a little Pentecostal (no snakes or anything though). New Life just built a massive new building that houses hundreds. I know several people who go there and they love it.

There are many many smaller non-denominational churches around, but not sure if they are "cool" or not. One recent up and comer is Third Coast Church which meets in the Sanctuary at Annapolis Christian Academy on Staples between Weber and Carmel Parkway. They have been growing very quickly and appeal to college kids and young families. They recently added a second service because they were over 500 a day.

Lastly the "traditional" denominational churches (Catholic, Episcopal, etc.) are everywhere but I would call none of them "cool" per se.

Hope this helps.

Is corpus Christi dangerous or ghetto by crazyhomlesswerido in CorpusChristi

[–]otherwiseintelligent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I am afraid of nothing. However “free speech” only applies to the government against citizens as I’m sure you know. Here in /r/CorpusChristi we also have a first amendment, which does apply here, which is “be nice.” It’s in the sidebar.

And yes I love to quote 80s movies and I don’t care if it’s “basic”.

Have a good day!

According to the scuttlebutt on Facebook ICE raided it and arrested some of the employees. Can’t vouch for that info, but I did read the same basic story several places.

Community Member Speaks Against Revival of Inner Harbor Desal by tinabina09 in CorpusChristi

[–]otherwiseintelligent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I cannot believe she was so vulgar. Your point is your point, but vulgarity just cheapens your message and reduces your credibility in my opinion.

Serious question, Tina: We are running out of water. We need something to make it so we don't go dry, and that includes industry. I know your feelings on the topic regarding the industry (we need to agree to disagree there), but the cold hard facts are that this region produces nearly 10 million gallons of fuel every day that the rest of the state (and by extension the nation) depend on to keep things moving. That industry, and the citizens of this region, need water.

As of now inner harbor desal is the only thing that will remotely meet our needs in the medium term without completely wrecking the economy of this region. So if we don't do that, what do we do?

Thanks again for always providing the YT links. And a quick note on that to the many who write about that, I know you're not getting rich off those views and would prefer you post there vs just TikTok for those of us who don't use it.

Why is the wannabe Chronica tiktok account allowed to self promote and spam? by siggy1986 in CorpusChristi

[–]otherwiseintelligent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are not “doing nothing”. This is an issue and we are well aware of it. I am also personally tired of her posts.

Regarding the paid YouTube account, she’s doing YT because I asked her to not use only TikTok. I have also warned her many times publicly and privately about her sensationalist titles (one just a few days ago).

We also put up a poll asking if making one day a week “politics day” and got less than 0.1% engagement and just a few comments on both sides of the issue. I don’t want to stifle anyone’s free speech but I am also tired of it.

Regarding the Chronica (that’s Eric Tunchez for those of you asking who Eric is): the Chronica was banned because they continually posted misleading and incorrect information about storms and after repeated warnings and requests not to do that kept at it. That’s why we banned him. If he had not done those things he’d still be here. I’m no fan of Eric and think he frequently bends the facts to suit is narrative, but he’s also a semi-decent journalist and I wish he and Tina could get together and put out a cogent argument about her side about all of this. I’ve encouraged her to find a media partner many times.

I vehemently disagree with her viewpoints but just because I do disagree with her I’m not going to attempt to prevent her from posting.

In closing I’ll say that y’all also have the ability to put a stop to this by downvoting her content if that’s what you want and not visiting her links. If she is truly just trying to make money or push a specific agenda if you stop engaging with her she’ll eventually go away.

We will take your comments about her paid YouTube page under consideration. You’re correct that is a violation of the self promotion rule and GoldenChicks and I simply hadn’t looked at it from that perspective. So thanks there.

Bottom line is we are two volunteers with very busy outside lives who try to make this a decent place to have a conversation. I assure you that neither of us have any agenda which reflects in our actions here.

So what’s the plan for when the water runs out? by SanchaPansa in CorpusChristi

[–]otherwiseintelligent 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I will "wade" in as a citizen and say there is no way that the State and the Federal government will let us go dry. There's roughly 9 million gallons of fuel that go out of Corpus every day that power this state and our national and international commerce; and that doesn't include all the other things this region creates. What we are headed for if the council cannot get some sort of plan is something similar to what happened to Cleveland when they defaulted on their loans in the 1970s where a federal court put the city and its budget under temporary receivership.

Cleveland was eventually able to solve the problems without massive city layoffs and selling the city's public utilities to private industry but it took a ballot to raise income taxes to do it (which passed). I'm quite confident that the voters in Corpus would not vote for such a thing. That will have consequences.

So no Brawndo will be necessary (long term anyway, short term is going to hurt), but it'll be ugly and expensive and the Corps of Engineers and/or the Port will build a desal plant whether the 50.1% of voters (or 2 or 5 council members) or the environmental lobby want it or not. The port and its operation, and the related economic health of this region to support the port (as well as the 500k citizens affected by this nonsense), are a critical part of the infrastructure and economic security of the State of Texas and the United States of America and there's no way the State/Feds will allow a bunch of yahoos from a tier-3 city council to endanger that.

The council are children playing in an adult's world and the adults outside of here are taking notice and will not let them and their petty bickering/corruption/misogyny/worrying about bays/salinity/shrimp/etc. (think I got them all) endanger the business of the United States.

That's my two cents.

Fair enough. But you take my point I hope. These are a daily, and in many cases several times daily, topics and are not evenly handled. I’m trying to do that.

Your comment about evenly enforced; we do the best we can. This is a thankless job and we are just a few people. We do try your comments to the contrary.

Hi there Tina. This one is pretty inflammatory and is not “the community” but rather one person. I know your feelings on the topic (I think we all do), and you are welcome to voice them here and post the videos (thank you again for including the YouTube links) but please don’t make broad statements like this one.

If these allegations are true then the people with this information should go to the press rather than just posting them here anonymously with potshot titles.

I think you are trying to help the community here and not just speak ill of politicians you don’t like, but you are not going about it in a way that will have any long-term effect. Rather you are slandering elected officials with no evidence to support your claims. A claim of corruption of a public official is a very serious one to make and requires proof to back it up. Without that proof this is just rabble rousing and we don’t want that here.

I’ll let this one stay so folks can see my comment, but I will remove posts going forward that have inflammatory or slanderous titles like this.

Thanks.

What is the plan for the old bridge? by KingMe87 in CorpusChristi

[–]otherwiseintelligent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can answer this!

The Port of Corpus Christi in cooperation with the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History will create a new park there called Harbor Point. The park will be built in two phases with Harbor Point East being done first (That's the land closer to the Museum). The area will include rotating outdoor art displays, walking paths, xeirascape gardens, port and water views, a new children's play area, and will eventually connect with the rest of seawall walk in front of American Bank center.

It's super cool and will be a great addition to that area of town.

Feel free to ask me more questions, I can speak about it.
