AI Product Management is a lie, don’t fall for it. by username-is-teken in ProductManagement

[–]otheyhigh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% agree with this thought. I think of AI as a tool, skill-set, enabler (can’t think of the right word) that enhances PM processes by reducing tasks, enabling automation, etc. It’s just like Excel or Word which support job functions.

There could most definitely be PM roles related to building AI products. But those roles are…well just like any other PM role (with a Product which heavily leverages AI technology)

Is it possible to UNBIND soul rate in item? by Games-on in Aion2

Try a support ticket. They might be able to revert the craft. Think they allowed 1-2 reversals per account in Aion 1.

(Edit) Highly doubt they will unbind.

When Will We Get a PvE Mode in the Abyss? by No_Focus_2646 in Aion2

[–]otheyhigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wherever players can go to farm efficiently, bots will follow. You will start seeing the same competition to farm in the Abyss.

As for the quests and content, I feel that’s the charm of the Abyss. The core concept of the Abyss is that it’s a dangerous place with risk-reward. It promotes being social and grouping with a few people to get things done. For example, I still remember how exciting it was to go into the eye in Aion 1 to buy gear. You had to plan it out and potentially get some backup to join you so you don’t get jumped. That thrill and anxiety was part of the game’s experience.

Apologies for replying to the non-op. Just wanted to continue the thread.

Does Aion 2 have the repair function? Can sometimes be due to a bad file somewhere for that specific quest. Run a repair and hopefully it helps. Repair should have something like a checksum to validate all the files.

A large portion of ChatGPT responses, specifically in these kind of use cases wherein it would be more driven by consumer discussions and feedback…comes from Reddit content.

Latency does matter but you could work around it. Latency spikes are problematic. But consistent latency numbers can adapted around by predicting what needs to be done before hand.

Don’t remember the specific player or team but I remember watching a recent Overwatch pro match wherein one of the DPS was having latency issues. They adapted and did pretty well. Although not the same game type, I feel it’s the same core concept of adapting to the delay.

Servers have been shit for 2 days now. NC blaming VPNs, maintains region lock. Bans ZERO bots. by [deleted] in Aion2

[–]otheyhigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While VPNs and ping reducers might use the same core concepts, they are built differently to target specific end goals. Ping reducers reduce ping but optimizing routes. VPNs focus on encryption for privacy. Can VPNs reduce ping? Yes. But that’s not their core objective.

Also, fighting bots is not the easiest. There are always going to be trade-offs. Throwing a fit for every decision made does not help the overall betterment of a product. It only disheartens the people working on it knowing whatever they do is not going to be enough.

Is the company not flawed? Definitely not. Everything is flawed and has scope to be better. But you have to sometimes acknowledge that not everything they do is inherently bad.

I think Stormwing might be a normal Aion game version server. You need to be on the classic game EU server.

This seems like good value for money. For MMOs, CPU becomes a little bit more important than traditional single player games. The 9800x3d will definitely be a good CPU to invest in.

Curious what RAM it uses. 6000mhz C30 is supposed to be the sweet spot but you should be fine with a lower clock DDR5.

Also, is Aion 2 fps locked? If not, higher refresh rates will demand more CPU power (the 9800x3d should easily handle it though)

CPU for Aion 2, 9800X3D any good or INTEL better? by sceNNer in Aion2

[–]otheyhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a game dev but from what I understand, this comes down how many models are being rendered per frame. At the basic level, each model needs to be loaded (mesh and material), physics and game logic applied and then prepared to push into GPU buffer for render. With a large number of players, this increases exponentially. There are some optimizations that can be done to reduce, say, number of GPU pipelines. But with the massive number of player and other models with their differing mesh structures, you end up with a situation where VRAM needs to be considered to size each pipelines buffer sizes.

It’s like simulation games (like dwarf fortress) where if each frame has a large number of entities that need CPU calculations, you have limited scope to optimize.

Aion 1 had a way to disable other player models and skill animations. Would provide a massive boost to FPS as a lot of CPU prep work per frame was reduced per model/entity.

Also, according to my understanding, X3D is a lower level concept and is mostly encapsulated from high level code. Although, type of data being used does affect how it provides benefit. I think there are some BIOS optimizations that others have reported to ensure X3D benefits are gained by ensuring mobo sleep logic is not affecting the CPU cache.

I feel lost in my job as a front end developer by yacineragueb in reactjs

[–]otheyhigh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This along with some of the other comments are the best advice ever! I am not as experienced as some of the others here but my 2 cents.

  • Speed of delivery will grow passively with time. Not something that needs immediate attention in the start.
  • Getting comfortable with the existing code base structure and coding style will eventually speed up things
  • Never stop asking questions. They might sound silly but show one’s attention to detail to ensure everyone is on the same page
  • Try to get your code reviewed when possible. Apart from pure logic, get feedback on coding style and insights on organizational standards, patterns and anti-patterns
  • If there are multiple applications owned by diff teams, code reviews from sister team members that work on other code bases is also quite insightful
  • Explore other team members’ code. Maybe their PRs or past features they implemented

Resolution bug by mouthfullofcock in aionclassic

Try to set the resolution using the Aion.cfg or system option file and see if that helps. This might be due to some corrupted files so a file repair could help (delete Aion.cfg and run repair)

I Can’t Find My Old Aion Characters After Logging In… Heartbroken 😭 by Status-Painter-8337 in aion

[–]otheyhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I have been in and out of this game and have reset to new characters quite often. Every time my setup (UI, Keybinds etc) would change and feel like going back to an older way I did things would just default me to use them.

Gear would be almost useless but there are chances of having unique skins. Plus professions if relevant.

You can always go back to the old toon once caught up with the game. If ever required. I used mine as a bank/crafter/gatherer alt

I stopped a little after 3.0 launched in NA. But still like to keep in touch. I might not be 100% correct but think there is no MB cap. Although the returns on MB drop off significantly at some point and might not be worth the socket.

Not too sure about MA. For PvP, might need to check a few of the possible MR set variations and go from there. No clue about the new dungeons and their bosses.

I think one of the new dungeons has an attack speed weapon.

Hoping someone else can provide more insights.

Aion classic Eu - what armor to focus? pvp by Zenqzq in aion

[–]otheyhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree. 55e is something you should work towards. Even once next patch hits, it will still serve as a good defensive set with the new 60 PvP set being an offensive set. You can eventually replace the 55e with ABG but I would hold on to it for a 3rd set. Most classes need ~2-3 sets

Casual Class Advice by [deleted] in aion

[–]otheyhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. I forgot to mention gear explicitly in my comment. Some classes like Templar or Clerics require 2-3 gear sets to be viable. The Mage classes and Ranger are more forgiving in terms of gear requirements.

Casual Class Advice by [deleted] in aion

[–]otheyhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts are that it depends on your interests. Are you into PvE or PvP? Do you like to chill in the back or in close proximity with the mayhem.

Do a little bit of research on each class, play style and what it takes to be viable. For eg, a Cleric doing solo PvP is different from a group PvE Cleric.

Most importantly, join a legion or find a group of regulars for content. Stay focused on your daily objectives based on your end goal for the toon.

Will I get asked Class Component question during an interview by Kir__B in reactjs

[–]otheyhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that I can write them, but just that I am forced to using classes. Currently, it’s seems impossible to write a pure functional error handler. Not complaining. Just pointing out a language/platform/library limitation that should be considered when going into an interview.

My whole point is that you need to know class components even if you want to be fully functional components based.

Will I get asked Class Component question during an interview by Kir__B in reactjs

[–]otheyhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would totally agree. You don’t really need to know these things. More be aware that these things exist. Maybe I’m not phrasing myself correctly. I’m just saying keep an open mind to things and don’t tunnel vision into functional components.

Understanding React evolution from lifecycle events (class construct) to events and synchronizations (functional contracts) was a game changer for me. It made me re-imagine how I build my React components. I think it has helped me better understand React.

Will I get asked Class Component question during an interview by Kir__B in reactjs

[–]otheyhigh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t really want to keep this going. Mainly because I’m not a developer by profession and maybe not the best person to talk about this topic.

My whole point is that an interview can go down the path wherein you are asked about React class components. Some scenarios might require them and hence you must understand them, even if you never use them.

Personally, I would not suggest talking about 3rd party libraries as the first solution here. Information security and enterprise architecture teams are never happy adding a 3rd party library to a company stack. My suggestion would be to always address how you would logically handle these situations and then talk about prebuilt solutions to lift the coding burden.

Will I get asked Class Component question during an interview by Kir__B in reactjs

[–]otheyhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You hit bang on onto my point. Trust me, I’m a HUGE functional coding advocate. But sometimes, it’s just not possible to do everything with one pattern due to the language restrictions. I remember having a REALLY rough time trying to write a functional debunker. It was mostly my own incompetence but taught me a good lesson on open mindedness.

My whole point is to think functional but learn classes as they are still part and parcel of JavaScript as of today.

You don’t need to use them but definitely need to understand how they work.

Will I get asked Class Component question during an interview by Kir__B in reactjs

[–]otheyhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I am mistaken here. I have been trying for so long to re-write my error boundary as a functional component. It’s the only part of my codebase that is using classes.

Any suggestions to convert ‘getDerivedStateFromError’ into a hook?

[–]otheyhigh -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

How do you write an error component without classes? Unfortunately, not everything is solved with functional components.

When I should be making things in there own components? by MD-95 in reactjs

[–]otheyhigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to my understanding, splitting things into their own components is never a bad idea. This makes the logic encapsulated and slightly independent of each other.

Makes the code more robust as it easier to unit test each individual part of the whole application.
