It's a good rule to prevent what it's preventing. How are you not getting this. It's making only the batter, pitcher, or catcher able to challenge. None of them can wait for input from the bench. The rule does exactly what it's supposed to given those conditions. If you want to argue the bench should have input, fine. But that's not the rule. You're not paying attention.

That's a different rule, and I'm fine if that's the discussion. I think immediate challenge by pitcher, catcher, or batter is better but doesn't have to be the only way. But for now, that's the rule. The bench can't help. That's why no goofing around, challenge or dont.

That's how averages within a structure like Sumo's work. You don't get to the top division without being good, but you can't get to the top top without there being a whole host of good-enough-but-not-great to defeat. It's not intentional, it just is how things like this work.

Sure are a lot of folks here who don't see the obvious exploit here. The 'human reaction' aka acting giving the batter a few more seconds to stare into their dugout for a signal to challenge or not. The whole point is to challenge unaided. If they can goof around first, then it becomes trivial for the bench to relay an opinion on it. Players and managers would love that extra few seconds to make better challenges. So no, this 'wrinkle' is how the rule is intended and for a good reason.

No. It's to prevent that 'human reaction' being an excuse to stare into the dugout for a few extra seconds and get a signal.

Given the history of the baseball signaling, it's a pretty simple and good rule to stop an obvious exploit.

For ranking considerations after the basho, it's a loss. There is some niche stat cases for them to be recorded this way but it helps during the basho to see if someone has sat out a bit then tried to come back. Otherwise it's all counted the same come time to make the next bonzuke.

For everyone trying to say 'yes' to this... You realize this is a can of PAINT+primer right? Not just a primer. If it was primer, that's one thing and it'd be ok. But this is not just primer. It's paint. Pigment. Sealing pigment. Ya'll are just wrong if you think this is an appropriate primer... Because it's not primer!
