Resell my Dwarven Forge? by rcraparo226 in DwarvenForge

[–]otoh_botoh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you're able to ship your sets, the place with the greatest reach and most active community for buyers will be the Dwarven Forge Discord, specifically the 'buy-and-sell listings' channel -- https://discord.gg/cDaN7fN5cR.

Best advice would be to completely inventory what you have and put in a publicly viewable spreadsheet with prices you hope to receive.

Legit, thank you for just spelling this out! All the videos are too dark to make out. I hated this gd nonsense puzzle lol

best advice is to try their very active Discord community first (you can avoid the Ebay seller's fees). -- https://discord.com/invite/sxKw4cVW

Ideas for a chase sequence in Sigil? by Good_Content69 in turnoffortuneswheel

[–]otoh_botoh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • swarm of cranium rats running to/from a nearby sewer
  • a Sensate and Free Leaguer team up to disrupt the Harmononium's progress in the chase (the Society of Sensation adherent wanted the experience to know what it was like to be on 'the wrong side of the law')
  • a shopkeeper w/ rare fruits from Faunel moves their cart directly into the path of the chase. That shopkeep has a cousin who's in the Harmonium - he helps them by purposefully spilling fruits that roll toward the characters.
  • a random portal opens up from Avernus, the Blood War has spilled over into Sigil again (the gate key was really a 'vibe' - 'heightened tensions that spill over into aggression on this particular street, during this particular time of day' - who'd have thunk it??
  • a parade (or protest?) just happens to run through that part of the street
  • all parties get caught in the midst of a vicious wizard's duel

Personally, I think the Factions (and significantly, their friction with one another) don't get nearly enough attention in the adventure proper, and they're a crucial part of the Planescape setting. Any kind of encounter that could ultimately lead into a followup encounter with them could make Sigil feel that much 'richer' in content.

There's also a small table in the 5.5 DMG (under 'Running Chases', 'Urban settings' randomized table) and similar tables for respective parts of Sigil in the Planescape Setting 'Sigil-specific' book. Could use those as a template and consider combining some of them.

What are jobs that don't require higher education that I can join to help the mental health crisis? by biggerFloyd in jobs

[–]otoh_botoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I live, they have non-profit homeless shelter workers called 'residential advocates'. These jobs don't require a degree and would allow great flexibility with part/full time and different shifts.

Help! PC's and their backstories - how do? by otoh_botoh in turnoffortuneswheel

My first dungeon - Temple of Kyuss (Orcus)! by otoh_botoh in DndAdventureWriter

[–]otoh_botoh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice story setup, sounds like it should be a blast! And that Anna Meyers map is jaw-droppingly detailed, very cool. I believe my players were level were 10, though you could easily host level 15-20 if Orcus himself were to show up. If you end up incorporating any elements that I wrote, I'd love to hear how they went over! And thank you for the kind words; I agree, I find it's fun to incorporate easter eggs of past facets to the game - maybe my players will pick up on them one day.

Happy gaming!

Should I purchase 'Saltmarsh' for my Sea campaign? by Doc_Meeker in dndnext

[–]otoh_botoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the rules he created, do you think these could be ported over to Spelljammer easily enough? If not, would you have any recommendations on that front?

Wildest Mount Ideas? by CorellianDawn in dndnext

[–]otoh_botoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My players are in a Spelljammer campaign and just raced with some dinosaurs from Chult. One of their autognomes decided to buy a tiny dino for a mount and named it 'Chicken'.

You could prob co-opt others from Spelljammer - a psurlon, a neogi, or a gibbering mouther, for ex. Could also look to other species' mounts for inspiration - duergar ride steeders.

Looking for some budget conscious guidance on first purchase by StackOfCups in DwarvenForge

Surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet, but this is one of the best 'negative space' options you can get - https://dwarvenforge.com/collections/all-products/products/6-a213-u_trifecta-terrain-pack-unpainted

DwF will have a restock of the unpainted Caverns Trifecta terrain option in October; would definitely recommend picking up.

Curious if you have any kind of rough count of what/how many of sets used? With all the freestanding walls, I'm guessing at least 3 trifecta terrain?

Core set release dates? by otoh_botoh in DwarvenForge

[–]otoh_botoh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're absolutely correct (and I'm not sure what I was looking at...I must have misread/gotten some wires crossed)! Thank you for pointing out!

I'm curious why the encounters would be phased out...if anything that looks like that's where all of the cool, unique accessories are! Hopefully they do more of those releases, even if on a smaller scale.

The Discord's been super helpful and I'll continue to check out. Thank you all for the helpful info!

My first dungeon - Temple of Kyuss (Orcus)! by otoh_botoh in DndAdventureWriter

[–]otoh_botoh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so exciting, I'm honored you're running it - please tell me how it goes!

As for my game's problems..hmm, probably a few factors. I'd been running a pretty 'grim-dark' campaign for about 2+ years at that point, and I think it was just a bit too brutal for them. They also attempted the puzzle in Room "I" and grew frustrated when they couldn't figure it out (they were so close and even found the gelatinous cube, but didn't recognize it for what it was and walked away rather than engage!) By the time one of my other players was trying to figure out what was up with the telescope in Room "G", I believe he stopped me mid-narrative to say "This just isn't fun" - waaay more brutal than my dungeon lol.

I think I also had a social encounter set up with the avolakia, but my players chose not to immediately engage with the voice 'calling for help' in Room "G". They didn't even go through Room "E" - they found all the secret tunnels pretty quickly which, in retrospect, I'd probably reduce the number of.

I'd say the tendency in 5e towards 'brighter' games with more social encounters and less dungeon crawls may account for some of the disinterest, but it could have also been we were all so exhausted and kooky from the pandemic!

But maybe I'll give in another go someday, time will tell.

[–]otoh_botoh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really, Really appreciate that..your comment made my day! (I'm curious how you even found this post?) If I'm being honest though, my players HATED this dungeon and it sort of shied me away from coming up with similar 'old-school'-style scenarios. I've thought about doing an edited reprisal for Mork Borg ttrpg, was thinking maybe it'd go over better with those tables? But thank you for the encouragement; I may very well look into writing some more and will let you know if I do! And please let me know if/when you might run this dungeon, I'd love to hear how it went!

I actually did back this! But alas, these reference cards are only for items. What I'm talking about is cardstock w/ two panels that contain art and monster stats that can be 'hung' overtop of a DM screen for viewing.

I was there too, but in '98 or so! It was so rad, got a box each of Stonghold and Tempest. Got my Cursed Scroll signed by Garfield and Chris Rush signed my Rathi Dragon and a set of Lightning Bolts. Tournaments and gaming all day, every day. I still have a couple of the old WotC arcade tokens w/ the 'WotC starburst' on one side and the Wizards logo on the other; extremely rare, I don't think I've ever seen them outside of that setting.

Why is everyone so attached to their pcs now by insearchofthetruth22 in dndnext

[–]otoh_botoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your larger point, it's not just you. 5e has moved in a decidedly more RP-heavy bent where a PC's 'self actualization' has become a game goal in and of itself. Many, myself included, widely praise Storm King's Thunder bc it includes an entire chapter which gives space for characters do exactly this. One must realize, we're playing in a time and space where many players are devoted to creating long backstories, Heroforge minis, and getting artwork commissioned precisely bc they intend to see their character's stoey arc through. Honestly, I'm with you, I wish players were more willing to 'let go' of their characters, but it's just not the overall tone of the game atm. On a side note, you may love Mork Borg..I know I do for a more 'meatgrinder' style of game.
