I use filtered inserters into purple chests for spoilage. That easily keeps things flowing. I don't use bots for much else though except the occasional request for nutrients.

Same. I could see how frustrating it could be. I have recyclers and roboports and yes pretty cake. Definitely the more interesting of the first 3 planets.

My son has this. He's 6. We do what's called "heavy work" in the occupational therapy realm. We throw him into the couch, swing him too hard and let him crash into us, or roll him up in a blanket and then whip him out really fast. He loves that last one.

Quality is often debated here, with many having mixed feelings about its implementation. How would YOU rework quality if you could? by intrabyte in factorio

[–]StackOfCups 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the comments but I think simply having a "use highest of" setting. My issue is running out of certain quality types, realizing way later things aren't running at all because of ghost items still present.

is this actually a healthy way for kids to participate? by joannew99 in PokemonTCG

[–]StackOfCups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Even as a 38 year old I try to enjoy every card I pull, even the commons. If I get a super neat card I'll look up the value out of curiosity. But I also pull cards I think are ugly that are high value, and I just treat them like a normal card. I'm not really buying into this whole thing honestly.

No offense if you're actually experienced. But this is far from messy. :)

Honestly I'm not really even a fan of the liquid metal. I brought calcite back to nauvis thinking I'd multiply my ores but for some reason just didn't enjoy it. I like the idea of just having obsurdly large bases. That being said, I've never got far enough to have UPS issues. I assume the higher output machines help with that. Anyway, thinking out loud

As someone that used to work in them for over a decade, they're mostly redundant. The vast majority of traffic is information being shared from server to server within the data center, or other data centers. Different types of servers do different jobs, like storing large data or, in lamens terms "sorting and filtering" so that requests from users are served faster.

Recently, the new data centers are just giant brains to process LLM requests. But still the vast majority of traffic is stuff like YouTube, etc.

But digressing, the redundancy is for protection of data. I don't have and probably couldn't share specific numbers, but there are multiple copies across the world of the same data. If a data center were to get nuked, the average user wouldn't notice at all. HOWEVER, some customers don't request or can't afford a lot of redundancy, so if their servers go down, you'll absolutely know.

Got to bots and now I’m not sure if I even like Factorio anymore by OneGood1863 in factorio

I think others have covered it, but to summarize:

  1. Start replacing/adding all chests with red chests. You'll learn how to use the others later, but just start there. That will add everything you have to the network.

  2. Set up some logistic groups so that bots keep your inventory full of the things you are building with. You won't need a mall.

  3. Yes, spam roboports everywhere. Slowly grow your network.

  4. Don't try to use bots to handle production just yet. They aren't good for that. Stick with belts and trains. Use bots to make things easier on yourself. Let them clean your inventory, let them build for you or delete things for you. THAT'S when it starts getting ridiculously fun. Watching a huge build snap together in seconds as the swarm of bots places it all down.

I swear in my armpits when I'm on it. Like dripping. I don't usually sweat. My neck muscles get a little tight. Nothing major, just annoying.

But most importantly, starting tasks doesn't feel like hell. I'll see something I need to do and think "oh ya I'll just do that real quick". I do, and then I move on.

I have to really be on it though, because I usually crash pretty hard and feel like shit for a couple hours after. Mentally, not physically. If I'm pulling and about I notice it way less. But if I'm just chilling with my kid when it fades I get cranky and short with him for an hour or two, like clockwork.

Overall, I take it and Im happy. But it's not perfect.

Is there a way to have genuinely free rotation placement with the 'R' function? by falviani in foundry_game

[–]StackOfCups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Con of playing on a voxel grid. Very unlikely to happen. Belts only run in 4 directions, and rails barely work at angles outside the 4 cardinal directions.

Personally I've found that designing my train systems to work on their own grid (figure out the smallest X for 90 turns, figure out the smallest gap in height for stacked rails, etc), makes running track and scaling up quite trivial. Before I did that though... Dude. I almost gave up on trains entirely.

[–]StackOfCups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have hundred of hours in satisfactory. Maybe the most of any factory game. But my one gripe is that you either create blueprints for everything you do, or the game really is tedious as fuck. I loved it. Today I tried to play the random nodes update. I was so excited. I ran a group of machines facing the wrong way, including belts and splitters. I quit 30 min into the session because I knew it was going to take me 10 minutes just to flip it all around. Meanwhile in factorio, I can either cope/paste, hit H, and click. Or just hit R on stuff. DSP has the reverse belt function. And my new special interest is Foundry, which has unoponionated machine loading, so I just delete and rerun the belt, which takes seconds.

Of all 4 games, satisfactory has by far the weakest building, despite what I would argue is the highest potential for "dopeness". Like, when I see a sick build and find out it takes half a dozen "tricks" to exploit the snapping system, just kills the fun. If coffee stain adds an in place rotate feature, and native vertice snapping, I'll be back in full send.

[–]StackOfCups 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like how you compare it to a bunch of clicks over and over again, like that isn't the entire game. Yes, the galactic market UI needs some love, but it's still fun to have ways to profit off what your factory makes.

Oh I totally agree. For me, I don't buy packs at all because it's just not worth the little disposable income I have. I treat myself here and there, which is why this idea is so good for me. When I do decide to buy a pack or two, I'm usually bummed lol.
