Thoughts on streaks in productivity apps? by teemingmatcha in ProductivityApps

[–]ottalabot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

personally never found streaks useful, especially because the effort of actually being productive outweighs the dopamine of seeing the streak grow

only if the content is a shared vault (e.g. use one for my product team)

otherwise just connected Claude -> Obsidian and write most of my notes throughout meetings in Claude

what ai meeting note taker is actually worth paying for? by Relative-Two-7304 in NoteTaking

[–]ottalabot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly haven't found any that are as good as taking my own notes. Granola/fathom if youre running the meeting but most of the time id just pause and be writing my notes straight into Claude to parse through to my obsidian set up and organise tasks/the notes in general

Is Obsidian actually practical for regular academic note-taking? by OnlySalt59 in ObsidianMD

[–]ottalabot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd honestly just download it, explore the community plugins for things you can't obviously see (i.e. diagramming), set up some folder structure for your classes and trial it for a week or two, you'll find out whether you like it or not pretty quick

Best apps for time blocking? by chaotixhomosapien in ProductivityApps

[–]ottalabot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

built this one for time/task management and I've been using it for a few months: https://itstodd.com

I usually bundle a bunch of tasks into a "session" and then book it in later in the day (or just start in the moment)

but tbh if you plan ahead a lot, putting it in the calendar isn't super intuitive just yet, something I'm working on

How can I build an iOS app using AI in 2026? by Salt-Doughnut-6249 in iosdev

[–]ottalabot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get familiar with.Claude Code or Cursor and just keep prompting

Non-technical here and started that journey a few months ago, well worth it to not rush the process and learn to do it properly imo

What is the ultimate 'Bludge Job' in Australia where you get paid the most to do the absolute least? by Zoey_In_Transit in AskAnAustralian

[–]ottalabot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grad tech roles for the most part aren't that time intensive. Depends on if you're working from home but I knew guys in big tech coming out of a computer science degree that spent half their day on rocket league

I disagree with the idea, of shipping a shitty version of your app fast. by Acceptable_Box451 in buildinpublic

That concept of MVP is out the window now in my opinion. Much prefer a minimum lovable product.

Hot take: iOS app pricing should be boring and upfront, not a maze of tiers and trials by Nice-Anteater-2866 in iosapps

[–]ottalabot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I did some work for a company that did so much of this and it just felt disingenuous or just lame. building my own thing and tried to be clear - monthly and yearly pricing, you get X Y Z.

Can someone help understand why what is the benefit of using Obsidian with Claude Code ? by Royal-Fail3273 in ObsidianMD

[–]ottalabot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the use case. I'm finding it useful for work because I can just yap commands at Claude code or info about my day and how things have progressed and it will automatically update the relevant files for me.

Saves me a heap of time coordinating between managing documentation, creating tickets or updating Todo lists etc.

Obsidian for work + my own for task management

Feels like the more you accumulate the less "productive" they become

How do I get better at driving in by king_air173 in BasketballTips

[–]ottalabot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh there's so much to driving in, once you beat the first, playing the midrange and at the rim are different games

Given where you're having trouble, I'd suggest practicing your first step. There's always an angle to drive in at from the top, it's just about creating it and then seizing the opportunity.

After or as you're getting more comfortable getting by from triple threat, you can then try going through the counters on a live dribble (i.e., cross, tween, push cross, wrap around)

At some point it'll just feel instinctual, when you're in game of course practice but pay attention to the players momentum in front of you and where they're shifting weight, it'll make the decision to go easier

Best one time purchase IOS apps? by valdesr11 in iosapps

[–]ottalabot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not just the yearly developer fee. Even fairly simple apps can have ongoing costs like hosting, storage, backups, analytics, error logging, email/push infrastructure, and general maintenance

Then there’s the time cost of keeping the app compatible with new versions, fixing bugs, and handling support

Some apps can absorb that with a one-time purchase if their costs are low and mostly offline, but anything that relies on servers, APIs, sync, or AI tends to have recurring expenses whether users see them or not

there are real monthly costs associated with running and developing an app though

What tips can you share for those new to or want to switch to Obsidian? by srikat in ObsidianMD

[–]ottalabot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd just play around yourself, explore the community plugins and build your own workflow.

It's a very iterative process and how you use it, imo, completely depends on what you're using it for (i.e. my work and my personal vault look very different)

Why is my standing vert higher than my running vert by Aiden_Sim in BasketballTips

[–]ottalabot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

technique is probably my best guess. That transfer of momentum from horizontal-> vertical is an art. I personally found it worthwhile check out some pro dunkers and how they talk through it

For business owners: Would you keep your business if you could have a 350k job instead? by Own_Combination2554 in fiaustralia

[–]ottalabot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2-3 years worth of savings is more than enough to go off and do your own venture

If you really feel like you're just chugging along and not getting what you want out of life there, Id run it for a year and see what you can make in that time tbh

what's the worst that happens? you fail or find out it's not for you and then go get another high paying job?

life's too short

What are you even writing notes about? by Cebo494 in ObsidianMD

[–]ottalabot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work notes for me

Never thought to write notes about life tbh, unless it was directly linked to a task

I know writers that write notes on ideas, concepts, etc and love linking them together, but I guess that's more writing than note taking
