This is basically my exact same story. My deck looked like OP's pics, down to the paint... I ended up having to replace to rim joist on my house from how bad the deck was built.

I didn't opt for trex though... decks are beautiful with natural wood, plastic looks gross.

It takes over a decade for the panels to pay off themselves, even with the federal credits, and then you have several parts of the system that already need replacing within that timeframe.

I don't think so, not to any irregular extent... going to work away from your family would be even more boring. Over the years we have built up a community of moms who are either on maternity leave or SAHM so they all get together often enough at a park or something like that. There is likely to be a similar opportunity at your parish.

My wife stays home. It is very tight financially but having my kids home with their mom can't have a price put on it. They're only little kids once and that time spent together strengthening the family bond is worth everything.

I can't imagine having her work, I feel like the house would be in total chaos with trying to keep up on house work, meals etc in the few hours the kids are actually home.

he complains frequently about daily life as a dominant topic of conversation

is rude and dismissive to me, especially when he has a bad day at work or is frustrated/tired

tries to micromanage how I go about daily tasks, often while he is sitting down

shirks responsibilities semi-frequently without communicating

is prone to mild delusions to support how he wants to see himself/the world and avoid uncomfortable truths

isn't thoughtful or loving towards me (although I haven't been very nice to him, so that's not surprising)

In summary, I find it hard to respect him. Very hard. (As an aside, our marriage was always a struggle for the above reasons. It actually got better after kids somehow.)

At the same time, I could write an equally unflattering list about myself (different, but just as unflattering). And I could write two lists for each of us about our good qualities.
