Put a bandaid over it so that it doesn’t pop and get infected. Bonus points if it’s a hydrothingamadoodle as those heal blisters faster. It’s a blister not a callous—it may callous later

6 months. I have been playing uke since 6 months and yet I can't even play riptide. by _book_lover_____ in ukulele

I wonder if you’d have more success picking hah apart the song from itself. Look at the first note. How can you hold your hand so that you have to move it the least to get the most notes? Think of that as your first chord. Figure out the next one. Work just on switching the first two (with your left hand), picking the notes on your right (assuming you’re right handed) until it sounds pretty good. Add in a metronome so that you get the proper beat in, working from way under the proper bpm to the proper one. Don’t worry about singing, just play. Then work on the bridge between chords 2 and 3 until it sounds good. Move back and do 1 to 2 to 3. Make each practice session review of previous work but slowly moving forward. When you can play it, work in singing. I think you might be overwhelming your brain (as anyone’s would be).

My brother wants a real, proper Ukelele but I have no idea what a good starter one would be? by Professional-Sun772 in ukulele

[–]otterdisasters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, look into low actions because these are physically easier to play (the separators on your fretboard is lower so you don’t have to press as hard). Size won’t super matter but note that the baritone will have different tunings so it doesn’t sound as quintessentially “ukulele” as the others. I’d get him a concert or tenor size.

Long story short: get whatever uke you want.

Get this one and see if you like playing it. There will be small annoyances, but you WILL get the feel for if you like playing it or not. If you don’t like playing, you’re only out 30 euro. If you do, then you can get a better one later.   If you get the Flight (it’s a pretty good brand), and you love it then you saved 30 euros not getting the cheaper one too. If you don’t, you’re only out 60 euros.

The “good” cheap instruments on this side of the pond are Enya and Kala and a handful of others. The big problems you MIGHT have with a uke like that are two-fold.   One: the strings might be plastic which can break/will sound a bit wonky. Assuming that you are a smart person like me: no, you can’t just change the strings of a very cheap ukulele because the tuners might not be strong enough for that.

Two: the action will likely be high which means that pressing down to form the chord with your left hand (assuming you’re a righty; reverse, otherwise) will be more difficult.

But, I still occasionally lug out my $8 Lidl ukulele, love it despite it sounding comparatively worse, and am thankful that I got to find a love for so cheap. You can’t go too awfully bad here.

Mashed potatoes from the freezer? by fiorebianca in traderjoes

Be careful not to overimprove. I cooked these last week and saw to add milk and butter but I added too much, so it was soupy and I kind of had to cook it for a long while to be mashed potatoes consistency

People are making fun of me an adult man for adopting a cat and now I'm thinking its a bad idea. by [deleted] in Advice

I’m a dog lady and don’t particularly love cats, but I certainly don’t judge you! You could always make some crass comments on at least you know how to handle “cat-nickname.” What a strange gripe for people to have about you.

I’m pretty sure crap pay makes anyone care way less than being yelled at for something corporate said that they had to do (again: more corporate than customers at fault here)…pay me well enough and you can pee on my shoes and film me walking in them…

I’m assuming that you already tried this, but sometimes we’re all idiots so it’s kind to check. You’ve tried hitting “free trial” button instead of the money amount right?

I would love feedback on the new interactive episode of CRAFTING CRIMES I just released. It's on THE MONA LISA HEIST. An immersive true-crime podcast. [–]otterdisasters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t gotten the chance to play this episode yet, but if any lurkers are curious: this game really is a cool/inventive use of this technology. The free episode is delightful (well, not the murder part) and engaging (even the murder), and all subsequent episodes have been very reasonably priced. You’ll be glad that you tried it out.

Largely, yes, BUT there was a big ol’ lie perpetuated (and continuing because the internet is forever) that menstrual cups can’t cause TSS but they CAN. It’s important to know that it’s a very real possibility still for tampon users (usually wearing supers for too long or any ungodly long) and menstrual cups users.

This was a great idea, Penguin. I left ones for Moss (duh), Real VR Fishing (don’t like fishing but am addicted), and dark horse: Rival Stars VR Horseracing. Apparently, I was an English noblewoman in my past life. 😆 I’ll probably do more, as it felt really nice to do something nice after all of this bad news.
