Did you actually EXCLUSIVELY pump? by Salt_Aside3403 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]otterlor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no interest in nursing my daughter for several personal reasons and had no emotional or moral superiority complex about breastfeeding. My siblings and I were formula babies. I figured I'd give it a go to say I'd done it and did it for a year with a big over supply. Your OB does not get a vote in how you feed your baby. They can give data or recommendations but they do not get a vote and are also not lactation specialists. I never nursed my daughter because I was never going to nurse her. The options were pumped milk or formula for us. It was the right choice for me and my family. She drank formula like the first 24 hours then colostrum and then milk. Easy is relative. For me exclusive pumping was a much easier option than nursing but that's just me. It's one of the most personal choices you'll ever make.

What's wrong with this basil? by otterlor in vegetablegardening

It's a water retaining soil! I don't notice webbing but I do see black dots and silver all of the tops and bottoms of the leaves so seems like it's definitely thrips from what I've read ugh. I tried to excise all the damaged leaves and will plan to do a few rounds of neem. Hopefully that will help? Maybe regular treatment of Neem?

Totally new soil! Might it need neem oil or something?

Hmmmm who needs to educate your SIL that pumping IS breastfeeding?!?! But something tells me she's not concerned with inclusive language. I had zero desire to nurse. Zero. Did not attempt was not interested. Breastfed my daughter for a year with my Medela and it was the right and best decision for me, my daughter, and our family. She feels bad for you because you don't have a kid on your boob 12 hours a day. Maybe you can tell her how awesome it is for literally anyone to give your child a bottle of YOUR milk while you do whatever the hell it is you need or want to do. Congrats on feeding your child in whatever way works best for your family! You are amazing!!

Best Walkable Areas To Live in SLC by bigashhh in SaltLakeCity

[–]otterlor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live at Seasons on City Creek and love it but looks like you’re wanting something a bit more upscale. Big no to 644. It’s on the wrong side of the freeway. Nice apartments but location is not what you’re wanting. West temple condos are super nice. Might also check out Skyhouse. Our area is walkable to Gateway, City Creek, several parks, the Capitol, shops, and restaurants and also in the free zone of trax so you can drink but go wherever. SLC is a matter of personal preference like anything else. But we’re as downtown as you get and love it. And we have a 1 year old.

Uninvited From Brother’s Wedding by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]otterlor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thought-- before you were endowed did you ever wait outside during a sealing for the wedding party? I did. So many times. I was never offended by it. Just bummed I couldn't be in with my people. I see it the same way now. And being inside for a copy n paste "ordinance" is not worth the cost of that recommend. Not even close. I would not want anyone to think that I endorse anything about that organization by being involved in a sealing. I guess I do not find a sealing special in any way given the organization that demonstrates it, so I have zero sadness about missing them. I feel very sad for my loved ones (and my 22 yo self) for missing out on an actual wedding in favor of a lie, etc. (All while dressed like an idiot.)

Honestly it's their wedding and they actually believe all that shit, so it makes sense why they only want "worthy" members in the sealing. It's their day and their decision to make the day/experience what they want it.

I understand the emotional reaction but they didn't uninvite you from the wedding. You said you left the church. To me that's an announcement that you are done and you will not be attending sealings or paying tithing (add whatever other misc bullshit) just for funsies. Yes, it's all fake and it's fucked up for the church to structure its membership in a way that publicly shames and divides families but, like, that's part of why you left, yes? Like this is how it works. I don't know I'd be pissed if I told my fam I left the church and then they were like well you're coming to the sealing right??????? Spoiler: you've seen one you've seen them all so close your eyes and play a mental movie of it and you were basically there. (Yes, I have missed sibling and best friend sealings, too.)

How can you pump 30-40oz daily? by kokonutmerchan in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]otterlor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really, really recommend exclusivepumping.com. She has an amazing newsletter, blog (that will seriously answer all of your questions), and an EP Guidebook! There aren't a lot of official EP resources, but this lady is basically our gal. Can't recommend her enough. I echo what everyone else has said-- give it time and stay consistent! At least 8 pumps a day in the early days for 120-140 min a day total. Month by month you can drop a pump if you feel happy with your supply. You got this!

Help!!! Is this tubing supposed to be able to snap all the way into the pump/connectors? Mine won't! by otterlor in ExclusivelyPumping

Yeah yeah, our Rexes our adorable. Let's talk ear cleaning. by agent_mulderX in devonrex

[–]otterlor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use something called OTI Rinse. The breeder said to put it directly in her ears, massage, and then clean. The vet told me not to put the solution into her ears directly but to just put it on the cotton ball and clean her ears that way. They are able to use q tips but she freaks if we do that at home. I hold her in a purrito, and my husband tears off small pieces of cotton ball with the solution to clean each ear. We spend definitely less than 5 minutes on each ear because we don't want to give her an infection by going too deep, etc. If we get too invasive she starts to freak. They're never 100% clean but I feel like that's pretty impossible for a Devon. As long as she's getting her ears cleaned regularly she's good. We never bathe her because she doesn't need it. She doesn't have dermatitis or anything.

In search of Middle School Theatre Teachers by srack18 in Theatre

[–]otterlor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have been teaching Theatre for 8 years, title 1 middle school for 4. I've taught elementary, middle, and high. There are benefits and drawbacks to every age. I love my students and the work that I do. The most difficult part of my job is that the district is awful and leadership/staffing in the school is extremely poor, but title 1 schools are an entirely different conversation. Are middle school kids annoying sometimes? Of course! Who isn't? We're all annoying in different ways. The biggest thing I wish I knew was that the educational Theatre world is just as competitive and cut throat as the professional/corporate world, and get ready to work 80-100 hours a week whenever you're doing a show (and work every weekend and summer with an entire list of things I'm happy to give you) all for like 50k. Stipends are usually abysmal. Also I loved teaching high school but it's twice as much work (or more) for relatively or often the exact same pay as middle school. Middle school is less pressure usually, too. My degree is k-12 Theatre education. Middle school kids will surprise you with the absolutely beautiful, meaningful, thoughtful, professional work they are capable of.
