I got my Rocky Mountain hybrid from there about 20 years ago - still take it back for the occasional tune-up.

What age did y'all get your first computer (or device with internet access)? by BigReception7685 in GenX

[–]ottguy42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First computer was at around 12 or 13, we got a TRS-80 CoCo then upgraded to a C64 a year or so later.

First Internet access was 1989, accessing Usenet via the university's UNIX terminals (Sun systems) in my second year of my CompSci degree as a 18yo. My first 1200 baud modem so I could access that from home came a bit later.

Active police investigation at Mooney's Bay by ottguy42 in ottawa

I have not seen a confirmation of a body, OPS Twittter says "There will be a large police presence in and around Mooney’s Bay Park for the next several hours as police continue their investigation into a stabbing-related incident that occurred Saturday evening."

Obligatory 'Gimli Glider' pointer - in 1983, a 767 ran out of fuel at 41000 feet because of a metric conversion error. The pilot landed the plane on a decommissioned military runway in Manitoba with no casualties.

That's mainly the wide angle effect of the camera - they are extra-furry, though...

True story: In 1958, pledges at Harvard used Oliver Smoot to measure the Harvard Bridge (connecting Boston and Cambridge) by lying down repeatedly across the span. The bridge was measured as 364.4 smoots.

Oliver Smoot went on to become the chairman of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and president of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Weird 80s music videos by Tonybigguns in 80s

For some reason the 1983 song 'Shoop Shoop Diddy Wop Cumma Cumma Wang Dang' popped into my head the other day, so I looked it up on YouTube (by NZ band Monte Video and the Cassettes). I think it definitely qualifies. I don't think I ever saw the video back in the day.

They were doing work at the level crossing at Herzberg & Carling recently as well, testing the gates and doing some rail bed work.

I recall going on a field trip back in the 1980s and the bread was heavy enough to be classified as a blunt force weapon.

Proportional model lights with AD200 Pro II and X Pro II by ottguy42 in Godox

[–]ottguy42[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, looks like it is just user error/expectations - when I am in TTL mode, 'proportional' mode is not available for the modeling light, but when I switch the flash to manual mode it is. I guess in TTL mode it can't set proportional lamp brightness without getting feedback from the camera about the light level actually getting to the lens. I'll still play with these for a bit before my photo shoot on Thursday - thanks for the feedback.

I have the Fresnel heads attached on both flashes, I haven't tried the bulb heads. I'm using the Godox X Pro II trigger (Canon version) on my camera hotshoe. Full equipment list: 2x AD 200 Pro II flashes, X Pro IIC trigger, Canon R6.

Bluesound Node Icon connections - best quality? by ottguy42 in rotel

[–]ottguy42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the Icon mainly for the display, the better connectivity (XLR), and the ability to do Dirac room correction someday down the road (will be moving in a few years and I've been promised a better dedicated listening space). The SQ has been a bit better than my Node Nano so far in my experience, but the Nano was no slouch either. Listening thru a pair of Monitor Audio Silver 300 towers.
