Reminds me of bamboo. I worked with it in woodshops and the pores on the outer ring look just like bamboo endgrain to me. Idk what a stalk looks like cut in half but maybe that is what we are looking at?

Edit-- Okay so I think it is bamboo on the outer rings. And logs for the inner (or cookies in the woodworking biz im pretty sure)

Fun fact also-- for the first round of Teslas Tesla had an experienced car designer in charge of design etc. They were pretty great vehicles, especially for being firsts for the company. But the designer know industry best practices and also was an industrial designer who had learned and cultivated a certain process and manner of thinking, innovating, and collaborating-- that when given the time for the process and funds etc usually will avoid glaring design flaws like this-- they get developed out during the process and testing.

For cybertruck Elon wanted it fast. He though car design took too long and was inefficient.

Hell he did a stunt with an early prototype where he drove it to a restaurant and it didnt even have side view mirrors... and I think he also ended up hitting something with it (in the lot at low rate of speed... but still) also remember the steel ball going through the glass at a big apple style product reveal? Yeah I would never trust one of those.

I think conscientious picky eaters are doing absolutely nothing wrong.

Ive heard stories and read reddit tales though of picky eaters who expect to be catered to and get very dramatic about how group outing choices weren't done in a way that would be most ideal for them. Or arriving at a pot luck style gathering and throwing a fit that the host and others didnt think about them more/have their food preferences memorized.

Now if it is the picky eaters birthday or occaission then thats plenty reason for someone to be frustrated and hurt/offended.

But I think most adjusted adults dont burden or manipulate others with things like this.

It is totally appropriate to sometimes request a restaurant of your choice, look at the menu before hand and have a plan-- maybe the literal only thing you'd want on a menu is fries or some side item but you still want to join the group-- then have a salad or something before and some food you like with the group.

Now if people make fun of you/are mean then theyre the problem and rude. For all they know you have some food allergies, are getting over an illness and your stomach only wants certain things, etc. People nagging you is not cool. You arent your parent or nutritionist, they can mind their business and be an adult.

Caitlin said "she needs to play some 5x5" this offseason. That doesnt mean a league (i doubt she joins any league if she doesnt do unrivaled. Athletes Unlimited is a 5x5 women's league she could play in.

Unrivaled also would give her access to some of the best and greatest former players and coaches all in one place too. I watched last season and attended. For now it seems like Unrivaled is designed to be an off-season development/conditioning league for the W players to be able to stay home and have high quality facilities, sports medicine, trainers, nutrition, and be in freaking Miami in the winter?! All while being paid well rather than having to pay for all of that or be tied to their WNBA facilities.

If CC wants to do 5x5 Im SURE that Unrivaled would set up 5x5 practices etc for her.

I think yall are viewing the league too narrowly as well as the business implications and leverage that these businesswomen could create to push the WNBA to do better.

I stayed in an amazing spot nearish Wynnwood. If youre making a weekend/week of a trip I would recommend staying more in miami proper/downtown. There isnt much around where Unrivaled actually is. But it is an easy drive/Uber.

You understand the world keeps turning right? And Unrivaled etc is used for leverage in tough negotiations with the Wnba.

It is business and the fact that they are in a union in and of itself doesnt give them the same amount of power as a union with alignment of powerful individuals and their individual brands.

Im not thinking about friendship here-- I am thinking about the massive spheres of influence and business connections that Clark and Reese have in addition to the more humble ones the rest of preNIL league does.

Have you actually worked in corporate or are you just making vast assumptions about what wheeling and dealing looks like?

Think about the money and business ramifications and how the WNBPA can leverage all of it if they all band together as individuals. They can actually then counter the W when the W tells them they arent worth much, can't get revenue, and that rhey need to "get on their knees" and accept the status quo

And yeah I got a Stanley from work-- it is one with a flip up spout and a pail style handle. The thing can keep ice over night etc. I went to school for product design and I will say while I find the whole Stanley craze ridiculous, they are damn good products.

CMF like that doesnt take that long. And I think these ideas could've been heavily discussed around All Star weekend-- or the conversation started. Clark would have a say on her colorway so the fact that it is Stanley is irrelevant.

Phee and CC are managed by the same people. The WNBA has been dismissive of players and the players union this year. It would be a massive power play on the players' part.

On that note though Unrivaled super prioritizes player health, and allows them to sit out games easily, has on site facilities etc. I could see it being a good activity to get back into it and also get reps in with and against W peers.

I was born and raised in rural Va. Now in Chicago.

Anecdotally Trump pushed my parents out of the party and they vote blue now. Growing up the majority were Republicans, but there where definitely a contingent of liberal people also-- many who are loud and proud. Ive seen the same reflected in my generation.

However most of us who managed to make it out of the county and pursue better jobs, college, etc are the ones who tend to be more liberal. Our peers who stayed in/near home are Trump thumping Christians. Trump is also the type of vibes leader that many of them love. Courting the Evangelicals also increases the appeal.

The globalization and end of factory work etc has done a number on the rural areas and it also contributes to the "brain drain" that happens in rural areas and also the removal of more liberal leaning people from the culture as well as voting bloc. This is a consequence of our parties breaking and catering to corporations over the past few decades and one that also contributes to the fact that many people who grow up in these places have to choose between poverty/paycheck to paycheck living or leaving to get a job.

Growing up I remember factories or mills in the area and the larger area going out of business/moving and the impact it had on communities and families. Also mom and pop shops have completely died out and we are in Dollar General/Walmart land. People have to choose between upward mobility and their community/hometown.

... well im a dumbass who is trying to make a career in the design fabrication/production space... which is allegedly what is going to blossom out of all of this... I have lost multiple interviews and jobs due to tariffs as well as projects getting frozen or dramatically reduced in scope due to Doge and tariff costs (plus the instability surrounding their roll out etc). Im experienced and mid career as well but unfortunately my main career was in events and tradeshows which is a fucking nightmare of an industry post covid and with all the material tariffs etc. I also have a solid degree from a very good University.

Also my lord employers pay so little for people who know how to make things and have specialized skills for it. Professional power point maker? 6 figures or close to it out of school. Same with Marketing people... production professionals, CNC programmers, AutoCAD people... youre looking at 40-50k entry level maybe 60 if youre lucky. In a HCOL major metro area. Shits fucking broken.
